Hi all,
Anyone fancy joining me for for an 11 plus support thread for those yr 5s who are probably just starting a bit of prep now ready to sit exams in September 2024?

State grammar is the angle I'm personally coming from but all welcome no matter if you're applying to private selective, state aptitude tests etc.

This will be my 3rd and final time of going through this and I've found support threads here really useful the previous times.

@yoshiblue it's ridiculous isn't it!!! Bet the email gets sent at 4pm too just to really drag it out!

Examstressargh · 21/10/2024 11:11

I already feel sick with nerves 😳

troppibambini6 · 21/10/2024 12:55

It's yes for us.

yoshiblue · 21/10/2024 13:12

@troppibambini6 and for us! 🎉

slaybell · 21/10/2024 13:26

Congrats @troppibambini6 and @yoshiblue!!

Is this for Ambrose? Still waiting on Loreto Sad

Traffordmum81 · 21/10/2024 13:27

Anyone heard from Loreto yet? Do we think it will be today the same day as Ambrose?
Congratulations to those with good news from Ambrose 😁

slaybell · 21/10/2024 13:28

Nothing here yet @Traffordmum81

yoshiblue · 21/10/2024 13:36

I think it’s 23rd for Loreto. The schools are not associated in any way so sadly there is no reason you will get results today except by coincidence.

The wait has been awful, so I sympathise with you! 💐

troppibambini6 · 21/10/2024 13:54

I've got two girls at Loreto and it's usually later. Ambrose was by the 21st and Loreto is by 23rd. Sorry the wait is agonising!!!

@yoshiblue yay that's amazing news!!!! Are you category 3?

yoshiblue · 21/10/2024 13:58

@troppibambini6 yes we are. We are probably not going to put it first if he passes the consortium tomorrow. Congrats to you, as I know it was your preferred choice.

slaybell · 21/10/2024 14:08

Did they give you a score and tell you that was a pass?

I'm not sure what to expect from Loreto as I've no idea what the qualifying score is

troppibambini6 · 21/10/2024 14:14

@slaybell yes they do Loreto change the mark each year depending on how they perform as a group. When my Y9 daughter did it the pass mark was 320 (which is exactly what she got!) the following year it was a higher mark. They tell you the pass mark and what your daughter got.

troppibambini6 · 21/10/2024 14:15

@yoshiblue everything crossed for you for tomorrow which would be your first choice?

yoshiblue · 21/10/2024 14:23

@troppibambini6 well that is the $64,000 question! Pros and cons to both, don’t know! I’ve told myself not to worry about it until we know what ‘choices’ we have.

Apparently Alty Girls are only going to tell us the score if they haven’t passed!

troppibambini6 · 21/10/2024 14:54

@yoshiblue that's a very sensible way to do it I think!

@Moglet4 oh wow I wonder if Alty boys might be the same?....

Can I ask where you’ve heard this? Presume if it’s true it’s a new thing for this year?

Got an email today. It’s definitely new. Dont know if the other schools will follow suit

Sutton is doing this too now. The official line is that they want children to start on an even playing field and not compare scores and feel inadequate once in.

In reality, it means that far more people will apply to them because in the past some scores meant it could have been a waste on the CAF. I think all schools now compete with each other and want the best candidates to apply. They are all aware that the birth rate is falling.

I’m not sure it’s massively sensible though. I’m not sure it allows people to make an informed decision. I know of parents in the past who have sent children who have just scraped the score for Alty to the grammars which have lower requirements because they were worried they would struggle.

bobberra · 21/10/2024 16:03

I think as long as the other schools publish actual marks, you'll be able to work out roughly what your child's Altrincham score is. It looks as though numerical marks will be published for those who don't pass so information will soon be shared about score differences among those parents.

I also think the decision to go to Alty girls is often based on much more than just one exam mark. I know lots of people who passed for Alty with great scores last year but parents knew it wasn't the right learning environment for their child so opted for another grammar instead (usually Sale). I think you have to be a certain type of child to thrive in a place like that and it definitely isn't for all!

troppibambini6 · 21/10/2024 16:06

I'm not telling ds his score he passed very comfortably but I don't want him comparing scores with anyone.

I kind of like the not knowing. I got really told off by the headteacher at Loreto when I spoke to her about dd2 "scraping in" I was worried she would struggle and asking for advice and was told very clearly "a pass is a a pass!" 😆

troppibambini6 · 21/10/2024 16:07

@bobberra totally agree. Dd1 passed but I definitely wasn't the right school for her and I've never regretted my decision.

Hi all,

Numerous posts on facebook suggests now that CCHSG has
a 25 mile catchment area there will likely be in IC score and OOC score which could be in the region of 360+. Anyone else hear of this?

Any other views?
