Is anyone waiting to hear tomorrow?

Just wanted to say it's a horrendous but you're nearly there! And it'll work out all right in the end even if you don't get the school you were hoping for. Good Luck!

Saggar - Stoke-ish, more N-u-L really but prefer to stay anon!

Anyhow can any local MN experts tip me off in advance about local high schools? I have picked up the news stuff about closures but not sure if it's just Stoke proper or whole county?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 03/03/2008 21:09

Just Stoke I think at the moment Monkeybird. My youngest is in Yr9 now so I'm hoping she'll just about be finished by the time they get their act togther re closures. Her school isn't really affected though.

mail me if you like j a x p 63 at hotmail dot com.

Staffs will follow once they've sorted out Stoke (hollow laughter) or so I'm informed.

CarGirl · 03/03/2008 21:22

I've just logged onto the London/Surrey allocations and it's there now. We got our 2nd choice as we expected.

hippipotami · 03/03/2008 21:23

Just been nosy Cargirl, what were your first and second choices??

CarGirl · 03/03/2008 21:26

H in Weybridge (3 years ago the catchment ended 10 foot from our house plus I missed the deadline for the selection tests), then JH (I was surprisingly impressed the new head is on his 3rd year and it is def improving), she refused to put down F but she is going to CH boarding school anyway she is adament that she wants to go but I do think she will love it.

SorenLorensen · 03/03/2008 22:11

Second choice - as expected, really. I was a bit disappointed but can think of plenty of positives (not least that it's a 10 minute walk away). And ds1 is happy. And it seems that most of his school are going too as hardly anyone got into our first choice - apart from siblings (so, about 3 kids).

hippipotami · 03/03/2008 22:25

Wow, CH boarding school, is that the one in Sussex?
Did she have to sit entrance exams for it?

[sorry, extremely nosy emoticon]

CarGirl · 03/03/2008 22:29

yep Horsham, yep exams and assessment 2 days - about 800 applicants for 112 places not even the uniform put her off - I never should have agreed to those drum lessons

foofi · 03/03/2008 22:30

HAve been lurking here today! DD got our 'first choice' school which we've subsequently decided wasn't really our first choice, but hey ho!

CarGirl · 03/03/2008 22:32

I'm just hoping JH continues to really improve for when my younger ones go there. The caltholic school Salesians in chertsey is no longer taking non-catholics so that has really changed things around here - JH oversubscribed!!!!!!

hippipotami · 03/03/2008 22:33

Is JH better than F?

hippipotami · 03/03/2008 22:34

Well done to your dd by the way, she must be sooo excited!!

But I would be at boarding...

What did the drum lessons contribute to the process?

CarGirl · 03/03/2008 22:39

CH is looking for candidate who are either sporty, mucial or drama or at least 2 of them IYSWIM. Looking for all rounders as well as academic ability & potential. Plus they march into dinner every evening to the marching band........kind of integral to the school!

JH has been bottom of the league tables for years!!!!!!!! will be off the bottom this August and set to come on leaps and bounds. Its a music and drama acadamy. Lots of new ae facilities but basically the head and staff turnover has stopped and more people are letting their dc go their so a wider range of abilities now go there IYSWIM.

F is just huge and really slipped recently, fine if your dc are very able or need support those in the middle have a tendency to get lost.

Thanks Celia 2 - will check it out. Any help will be very much appreciated!

hippipotami · 04/03/2008 07:56

Oh cargirl, ds would love CH......

He is musical and very very much into drama, but acedemically decidedly weak

Plus then there is the boarding issue.....

Our local secondary (10 minute walk away) is WC, and whilst it has good results year on year it is very big......

Having said that, my niece and nephew are thriving there.....

But ds is only in Y4, so I have a little while to think about this .....

KM1 · 04/03/2008 10:11

My DD got her first choice (a grammar school) so we are over the moon! After her 11+ she thought she had done terribly and didn't stand a chance so we were all very surprised and pleased!

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 04/03/2008 10:29

Well done to your daughter, KM1.

My dh has rather thrown a spanner in the works by suggesting that we still go for the independent school (which was our original fall-back option) rather the local school we have been offered - yikes!

foofi · 04/03/2008 11:16

My daughter wants to do that too QueenMofC

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 04/03/2008 11:56

What are you going to do foofi?

leosdad · 04/03/2008 11:57

would just like to hear something about DC's allocation - had no email, can't get onto website, no post, tried emailing but just get the out of office job lot reply telling me that it may take until evening to send allocation emails (yesterday evening) phones not being answered.

Might have got the letter by next september

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 04/03/2008 11:59

Aww, leosdad - poor you!

leosdad · 04/03/2008 12:06

In theory should get place at 1st choice (siblings, etc) but someone in office could have made a c*ck up (this is essex after all!)
