Is anyone waiting to hear tomorrow?

Just wanted to say it's a horrendous but you're nearly there! And it'll work out all right in the end even if you don't get the school you were hoping for. Good Luck!

Article on BBC site here

I like this quote:

"It would be hard to think of any other public service where stopping people getting what they want is seen as a desirable outcome. But parents in the school admissions process have got used to the feeling that the customer is always wrong."

GrapefruitMoon · 03/03/2008 13:35

DD's allocation just came through - got her first choice! (Though it would have been hard not to as we more than met the criteria)

Jockey · 03/03/2008 13:58

Feeling slighty shocked - we've got 1st choice (was expecting 3rd). Hope DS is pleased and that some of his friends have managed to get in as well!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 03/03/2008 14:02

OK Kent mums - who's smug and got Twig/Skinners?!

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 03/03/2008 14:05

Where are you folks who've got your outcome already?

swedishmum · 03/03/2008 14:11

Ominously I've just checked ds's online application. UNder my 3 choices has appeared Choice8: crappy crappy school. Really hope it doesn't mean anything.... He will definitely not be going there. And I know how crappy it is - they offered me a job recently - so I'm not going on heresay.

Posey · 03/03/2008 14:16

Waiting here too. Can check online from 8.30 in the morning, but keep checking just in case!
I too keep checking the printout of the application, thought I'd had a senoir moment and put dd's wrong year of birth, or that she was m not f, or puit down choices in reverse order...
Not sure how much I will sleep tonight...

SorenLorensen · 03/03/2008 14:21

Getting more gibbery as the hour approaches.

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 03/03/2008 14:24

OK - finally built up the courage to look at the printout - ha,ha, I put the local school 4th!!!! And I seem to have managed to put the school ds hated in 3rd place - luckily we are miles away from choices 1-3 so we should still get the local school (I hope).

swedishmum · 03/03/2008 14:32

Off to do something useful before sec school run - we have a French exchange student this week and she's not allowed to use the school coach so an extra 40 miles a day for me. Hey ho! (Yes, it's the nearest appropriate school we just live in the middle of nowhere). By then I should be able to check result before poor ds gets back from football practice.
Anyone taken LEA to court over unsuitable school places??

OrmIrian · 03/03/2008 14:33

Still can't log on

Will have to wait till I get home and check e-mails. Friends 'who knows about such things' tells me that we'd have heard if there was a problem before now.

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 03/03/2008 14:36

OrmIrian - are your results definitely online today? I've re-read our booklet and it says no online results until the 4th. This is in London.

OrmIrian · 03/03/2008 14:37

Yes they are. I rang up to see if there was a problem and they are supposed to be there now. E-mails sent out from first thing this morning, letters going out second class today.

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 03/03/2008 14:43

Oh right - lucky you (or not so lucky as you can't log on ). I have no hope of finding out until tomorrow!

Jockey · 03/03/2008 14:43

QueenMeabhofConnaught - hi, I've got my result and I'm in Herts. For some reason, I STILL feel sick and shaky!

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 03/03/2008 14:46

Not as sick and shaky as me, Jockey!

at you knowing already...grrr....

Glad you got a good outcome, though!

Monkeybird · 03/03/2008 14:48

oh god is it like this everywhere? DS only 9 but panicking already...

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 03/03/2008 14:50

You might as well start now, Monkeybird, and give yourself plenty of practice at panicking.......

OrmIrian · 03/03/2008 14:53

The annoying this is that I wasn't panciking at all until I logged on to MN this morning. I am reasonable confident that DS will get into the school we chose - none of them are over-subscribed here - but the one we wanted is the smallest in the town so there's always a risk.

VanillaPumpkin · 03/03/2008 14:54

My brother went to Skinners. Good Luck everyone!

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 03/03/2008 14:56

Fingers crossed, OrmIrian. I wish I lived in an area where the schools aren't over-subscribed!

SorenLorensen · 03/03/2008 16:06

Aaaarrrrrggghhhhh, buggering buggery councils and their buggering buggery computer systems.

I knew this would happen...3.30 comes and...nothing. Can't log-in to the online admissions service, it's "down for essential maintenance" (ie., it's crashed under the number of people trying to log-in at half past three). And no email.

They post out your letter to offer a place second class...what's the betting I won't know til Wednesday?

I am going to cry. Or scream. Possibly both.

bundle · 03/03/2008 16:07

good luck everyone

QueenMeabhOfConnaught · 03/03/2008 16:08

Is the letter sent 2nd class - I didn't realise - great .

SorenLorensen · 03/03/2008 16:08

It is in Cheshire, QueenMeabh.
