Just cracked open the Prosecco in the hope it’ll help with the sleep. (For me not DD!)

I'm on the pink wine and reminiscing with The 1970s Supermarket. DS is at the gym and "won't be back until late" I dont mind actually because whilst its quite a blokey weightlifting gym a lot of the guys there have taken DS under their wing and I'm pretty sure will be full of stories about how GCSEs aren't the be all and end all.

One more sleep! Although I’m not sure how much sleep we will achieve tonight in all honesty! Just wanted to pop on and wish everyone the best for tomorrow morning (DC and parents). Sending virtual hugs and wine 🍷

PhotoDad · 23/08/2023 21:34

I'm a teacher at DS's school and we get sent the results 10 minutes before the students to scan before we open the doors (SLT/Exams Team had them today). But I'm not in for GCSE results day this year and I have promised that I won't look before DS checks them on the online portal!

Thank you! DD is already sleeping after we spent all day at the theme park and we are absolutely exhausted and tomorrow is a big day

Been to.cinema and McDonald's, now trying not to show any nerves.Dd on her phone to multiple.friend groups who are all very stressed. Good luck everyone tomorrow and hope your dc get what they need for the next step, be it 9's.or 4's I'm sure we will all be proud of them

MerylSqueak · 23/08/2023 21:53

Same. Am going to take a sleeping pill otherwise I'll be awake all night.

I feel sick

MerylSqueak · 23/08/2023 22:18

Fingers crossed for you @Clymene

AnxiousElephant77 · 23/08/2023 22:21

I feel physically sick, but at least we've been able to have a chat tonight about what she might want to consider if she doesn't get the grades to get in.

I'm praying it doesn't come to that, and I hope everyone gets what they are hoping for tomorrow. I bought her a card but I couldn't bring myself to write it.

Best of luck to all of you and your dc.

Letskeepgoing · 23/08/2023 22:30

I just said to my son, early night then as early start tomorrow!! I said GCSE results tomorrow and he said "Oh yeah!" 😍

naughty40me · 23/08/2023 22:34

Best of luck everyone 👍

They've all done so well regardless....

Thinking of them all

Hellocatshome · 23/08/2023 22:41

Good luck for tomorrow everyone. I may be late to the party in the morning as DS cant get his results until 9. If the thread is looking full can someone start a new one and link to it here so I dont lose you.

Good luck everyone tomorrow.

reluctantbrit · 23/08/2023 22:50

DD finally broke down and told me that the issue with her behaviour was that DH mentioned tidying her room too often. Bless them both.

DD is not only tense. about tomorrow but also about finishing her transition work. Bloody school, why can't they give them a Summer to relax instead of telling them what to prepare for. Grrrr.

DD now decided to stay awake all night. She is currently net-flixing but I will send her to bed soon.

Less than 10 hours for her.

Dinnerisburnt · 23/08/2023 22:50

DD’s school doesn’t open until 9:30 to collect results. No idea where she is going for 6th form till she gets the results. Her first choice rejected her based on mocks. And she has made a hairdresser appointment at midday to get her roots done. Not sure her priorities are in the right order.

Starlightstarbright2 · 23/08/2023 22:59

I have tried to discuss with Ds - plan of action for all results good or bad - he has kicked off saying I just think he will fail ..

I have apologised said sorry if he thought he couldn’t pass he is intelligent enough that I have no doubts of that but not sure his headspace in exam room . ( he has Asd/adhd ) so his mood in that room will vastly effect result… I did say I think we are both a bit anxious about tomorrow..

I have come to bed to watch Tv before I make it worse.

Rowgtfc72 ·

@travelogue dds heading to London tomorrow for Reading on friday. I think I'm more worried about Reading than gcses at the minute.
Ikr! DD is going with a friend tomorrow & leaving on Sunday for fear of trouble. We'll have to have a Reading Support thread after this - grey hairs increasing hourly at this point!

Yes please! I'm been so worried about DS going with his friends ( including gf) to Reading that I've hardly had time to think about tomorrow's results!

SheilaFentiman · 23/08/2023 23:10

Setting the alarm for an early drive to school… good luck all!

aleC4 · 23/08/2023 23:25

Good luck all for tomorrow.
Dd has just started to get a bit jittery and is feeling sick.
I don't feel too bad. This time last week I was way worse for ds's a levels.
He didn't do as well as expected and that has made her a little worried.

OvaHere · 23/08/2023 23:40

Good luck to all the DC tomorrow. We go collect at 9.30. I've been on pins all evening but DS is very chill. He thinks it's "going to be fine" 😁

Clymene · 23/08/2023 23:47

MerylSqueak · 23/08/2023 22:18

Same. Having children whose immediate futures hang in the balance is excruciating. If I had a kid who was worried they might drop from a 9 to an 8, I'd be cool as a cucumber

AnxiousElephant77 · 23/08/2023 23:53

Dd has been jittery all night. Dh has been to football training and just come in, having totally forgotten about tomorrow.

I told him, he went in to speak to her. Came out and said, 'I've sorted it, she's fine.'

Sure, Jan.

elkiedee · 24/08/2023 00:20

DS1 in the park for much of the afternoon/evening, from whenever he got it together to leave the house (I was out from 2.25 until about an hour ago I think). He's messaging his dad saying at his friend's (10 minutes walk I think) and is coming home soon. I won't be entirely surprised if he doesn't but am just hoping his mum is able to be around to somehow get them to go and get their results in that case, because I'm climbing the walls. He can get the results between 10 and 12 and if he's here I suspect I'll be trying to get him to go at the beginning of that period and let us know the results.

He said something about school might contact him to go in earlier. They haven't but on the other hand I'm hoping it's partly because local media (such as it is) has limited interest in our area and my kids' school and will be more excited in schools a few miles away, near the houses they make a lot of their money advertising (yes, absolutely I'm snarky about this).

bendmeoverbackwards · 24/08/2023 01:17

I can’t sleep!

I wasn’t too nervous until I read all the reports about grades going down. My dd is bright but is ASD and missed a lot of school in years 10 and 11 due to anxiety. She’s a last minute crammer but I have no idea how she’s done.

elkiedee · 24/08/2023 02:02

DS1 came back at 12.50 am with exciting news! He and several of his friends have been called in for photo ops at 8.30 - so I need to set my alarms for slightly earlier than I expected, but that makes me more hopeful - and maybe he'll be able to tell us before 10 am. We were more forgiving and helpful to him tonight about coming in so late and wanting to toast bagels, have a bath etc, as obviously it's a big day.

Hoping that all of our kids get a result that keeps doors open to chosen courses/colleges/trainee positions whatever that may be.
