Hopefully everyone from GCSE Support The Final Frontier can find this new thread!

All I'm saying is that I'd take a cautionary approach to an early celebration if Look North are coming

I'm definitely not taking calls from Rebecca Wood tonight😂(for those in the Midlands).

HippyChickMama · 23/08/2023 19:06

I'm starting to feel nervous. Ds got good mock results so I'm sure it will be fine but just want it confirmed now! Ds and dh have gone to PIL's to watch football with FIL, I'm watching a film with dd to distract me. School opens at 9, ds has said we need to be ready to leave at 8:30, it's a 5 minute drive away 😂
I think I need wine

I suspect if they were privy it would be gross misconduct to talk about it here before they are released!

It is gross misconduct, but even if it weren’t, sharing any information would just stir up anxiety. I remember what it used to be like when they released grade boundaries a day before results. It just fuelled obsessive speculation and anxiety on the student room and worked kids up into a frenzy. There’s no point knowing the boundaries when you have no context for how the paper was standardised or what instructions examiners were given. Once you have your results, boundaries are useful for knowing how close/far you are from the next one up, but before you have your results they aren’t any use to you.

travelogue · 23/08/2023 19:15

Wait - the schools know today? I don't know what I thought happened, but I guess I thought they'd see tomorrow too 😂

No phone call for DD to go and get a press photo so I'm not telling her this information - we had a conversation about going in to which she said she wouldn't because the only people there would be the "geeks with all 9s" and all her friends are already at Reading so she would be on her own!

Also had a chat about the possibility of going in if school suggest a remark and can she please tell them she won't be there so they need to call..

I've successfully avoided thinking about this for most of the summer but I'm really nervous for her now. I just hope she's going to be happy enough tomorrow & we aren't dealing with any kind of catastrophe because she's supposed to be heading off to this blooming festival😩

Fingers crossed for all of them - 🤞 🍀

@Hersetta427 - I recognise your name from a pregnancy thread 16 years ago! I name change quite a lot!

That's so funny - can't quite believe we are where we are ! DD isn't 16 until Thursday next week so she is unboutably the baby of this group.

3sthemagicnumber · 23/08/2023 19:17

Good luck tomorrow everyone.

I think I'm more nervous than I was for my own results. Not just for DD, but for her friends and my friends' kids too.

I'm another one who missed a couple of months in the lead-up to GCSEs (with post-viral fatigue - I even fell asleep in one exam). I did fine as well, so it can happen. At least we'll know tomorrow.

ignoreignoreignore · 23/08/2023 19:19

@Hersetta427 - DD is a July baby but was due in August so that's why we were probably on the same chat!

Exactly this!
And no, I don't know!!

Joining in for support. We are heading into school after 9 tomorrow. DS is predicted good grades but has been spooked by the A level results. He's now convinced he's failed English Lang due to his pretty poor handwriting. I can just about decipher most of it, just hope his examiner can!

We can read EVERYTHING. It's our superpower :)

Thank God for that I cant read DSs handwriting and he already mentally knocked off however many marks you get for spelling from all the papers before he even sat them.

I wouldn’t read too much into the lack of a call about coming in early. The press tend to go to different schools each year. We’ve had the press in some years and other years not. This year, nobody is coming and so there have been no calls to anyone to come in early.

And yes, schools download results today, then we print them and stuff envelopes ready for tomorrow. We also have to check them for administrative errors, which happen more often than you’d think. Pearson BTEC have a particularly poor record on results not being correct on results day or just not being available at all. When that’s happened we’ve had to put together letters to go in the envelopes of those kids to explain the fuck up. We also take a look through results and make sure the careers adviser gets given a list tomorrow morning when the embargo ends of anyone who might need extra support with their next step.

16 on each Lang paper.
I'd prefer legible but we have to make our best efforts - the candidates deserve a fair go.

Oh God that many? I'm sure DS said about 4! 🙈

4 on lit.
They're not for handwriting though

Honestly based on DSs handwriting I think you would be hard pushed to work out if it is spelt correctly or not!

Jesus Mary and the Wee Donkey. I very much hope that God is going to come down and give us all beaut grades in their envelopes.

We are on a roller coaster. I've had hugs, watching a tv series on the sofa whilst I was supposed to be working, told
I'm not allowed to go to school, rudeness repeatedly, and now allowed to go to school and kissed on the head.

I just want for us to get this over with.

Rowgtfc72 · 23/08/2023 20:08

@travelogue dds heading to London tomorrow for Reading on friday. I think I'm more worried about Reading than gcses at the minute.

Benaberry · 23/08/2023 20:09

We’re now on the rollercoaster as well - DS1 has been pretty chilled about it all so far, but this evening we’ve had grumps over being asked to do simple jobs, squabbling (more than usual) with DS2, affection and back to grumps.

I’ve given up and have started building Lego to keep my mind and hands occupied 😂

AnxiousElephant77 · 23/08/2023 20:09

It's all become VERY tense here

WeWillLookBack · 23/08/2023 20:12

Very nervous tonight ... just like last week !
DS1 - A Level results last week - Did brilliantly, and got his first choice RG Uni for Law.
DS2 - GCSE results tomorrow. Expected grades all 7-9.... but we know this isn't likely. He is brilliant (in a non-academic way), but has now admitted all his hours of revision were possibly not real. He is amazing, very practical, loved by everyone (head of school council etc). We need to really work to make sure they don't compare themselves to one each other.

They're not all for spelling either. I don't think I've ever given zero. In fact, in 20 years of examining, I know I never have. Unless it's blank.

Ikr! DD is going with a friend tomorrow & leaving on Sunday for fear of trouble. We'll have to have a Reading Support thread after this - grey hairs increasing hourly at this point!

Rowgtfc72 · 23/08/2023 20:28

@travelogue I've heard sat is the worst day. Dd just wants to see Sam Fender.
She's going with my brother and staying in London with him till Tues.
This doesn't instill me with confidence either. I'm the sensible one in the family!

NCTDN · 23/08/2023 20:46

@Hellocatshome my dd has truly awful handwriting too. In primary school it was beautiful so I've no idea what happened. He can't read his own words sometimes!

Sausagesandpeas · 23/08/2023 21:18

Just cracked open the Prosecco in the hope it’ll help with the sleep. (For me not DD!)
