👍 👋

SheilaFentiman · 29/06/2023 23:19

Ah, thanks for starting it! DS1 is on hols now with his dad.

AgathaSpencerGregson · 29/06/2023 23:22

I’m trying to pretend it isn’t happening. I think I’ll probably puke on the morning itself

DorotheaDiamond · 29/06/2023 23:30

We are on holiday with another gcse teen on results day - going to be horrific!

AgathaSpencerGregson · 29/06/2023 23:33

It’s so much worse than getting my own results. Daft really.

NCTDN · 29/06/2023 23:49

Great thank you!
OCR have issued an apology about the computer science paper.

jamimmi · 30/06/2023 00:37

Found you. Just recovered from prom here..all wore lovely but not ridiculously expensive dresses.and looked amazing. Trying to forget about August. DS gcse were interesting had to pick upnhe best mates as he was away and then let him know he hadn't got what he needed for 6th form . This time it's just DD .

Rowgtfc72 · 30/06/2023 04:49

Thanks for the new thread!

Purpleconcreteroad · 30/06/2023 07:51

The ocr letter was more, 'sorry you feel like that' than an apology.😀

Hersetta427 · 30/06/2023 08:27

Seems like a long wait now although lots planned in the next couple of months so I think it will sail past.
Prom was a couple of days ago - DD had a great time although didn't go to the after party which was a bit messy apparently as she was the only one to have to go to an induction day the morning afterwards as it is out of area.

Best news for DD since exams has been a GB squad call up- now in the middle of an extensive fitness/training program before the first residential camp in 2 weeks. She has been going into school at 7.30am to use the sports hall and gym so is keeping very busy.

minisnowballs · 30/06/2023 09:34

Wow, @Hersetta427 - that is very exciting. She must be thrilled. We had prom here last night. All the girls looked stunning and it appears to have been an entirely sober occasion (unlike many of the other post GCSE parties). Poor dd had her brace tightened before it though, and is in agony today.

Sixth Form taster days have gone very well so she is excited for next term - and it looks like we will in fact be in charge of two 16 year olds for A-levels, as it looks like we will be hosting her Ukrainian friend for the next two years, so I'm trying to get my head around that.

DD has a nannying job (best money ever for taking the kids to the cinema and doing baking, she says) and some trips away now, as well as quite a long summer reading list. Three of her A-Level choices are essay based. I did warn her!

Now I've got my other big job for the summer, getting her younger sister (Year 9) ready for specialist music boarding school in September. She has a music exam next week and the school musical - it's hard to keep the momentum going when her sister is out of school and she knows she's leaving. DD1 is sewing on a lot of name tapes- for cash.

Great thank you!
OCR have issued an apology about the computer science paper.

Do you have a link to this? It was the only paper that DD was really upset about and it's one that she wants to do for A-level so she's worried the paper will screw her plans up...

DarkChocHolic · 30/06/2023 15:29

Joining in from the previous two threads.
We are all recovering from prom exhaustion here
DD had a great time but it was a lot of work for me to source her bits at the last minute.
She has applied for jobs but not having much luck.
She basically has given her CV out in the high street and is now realising it is quite tricky to find a job.
Hopefully she gets a small one to keep her busy as we don't have a proper holiday planned for the summer which I am gutted about .
Trying not to think about august yet but in a way I wish I could fast forward to September too!

MargaretThursday · 30/06/2023 18:09

Ds has now done 4/5 performances and is exhausted but very happy. They're all day performances outside, and up and down hills all the time.
He's delighted that from tomorrow he is no longer subject to chaperone regulations and can wander down on his own to his positions without waiting for chaperone and all other children.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 30/06/2023 18:50

Evening all. DC1 has her prom this evening, although it's quite a low key thing at school. I'm on the opposite side of the city as her little sister has a concert, and have had to make DC1 promise to let H take some photos.

DC1 is smarting a little, having been rejected for a part time job by McDonalds' automated personality questionnaire 😁. The quest for a job continues...

PhotoDad · 06/07/2023 10:05

Hello again everyone!

Changes17 · 06/07/2023 10:10

Morning all! DS had his sixth form induction day this week, came back looking a bit underwhelmed and with some transition tasks to do. But that's apparently going to wait until after holidays.

minisnowballs · 06/07/2023 11:11

DD is on NCS, where the food is terrible, there is one loo between 50 girls (though apparently they are trying to sort it) and she is having an AMAZING TIME! So that's a relief.

Just had the email about picking up GCSE results. Feel wobbly. She's more worried about the Taylor Swift ticket sale.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 06/07/2023 11:27

I have an email from school about results day and feel pretty sick every time I think about it. I might not sleep much the night before.

DS is home briefly after CCF camp. He had a fantastic time despite the pouring rain and certainly blew off some tension. He goes off on a climbing trip on Sunday for a week , which he's really looking forward to but the itinerary terrifies me. The days are flying by so quickly already.

HappiDaze · 06/07/2023 11:29

Brilliant thanks for the new thread OP

We can all hold hands together.

I have to drive some of them to Reading after receiving their results so I could be in for an emotional ride.

DD had a fabulous Prom and her friends all said it exceeded their expectations which was great.

She's had her 6th Form moving on day already so she's excited and looking forward to starting her A Levels.

Fingers crossed her results will allow her to go, I'm sure they will.

HappiDaze · 06/07/2023 11:45

She has a ton of homework to do over the holidays already before she starts so that'll keep her busy

Rowgtfc72 · 06/07/2023 14:59

Hello!
Prom day here. Dd is sporting her new braces so is uncomfortable but looking forward to it.
Arrangements for results here are sketchy. Dd can pick them up at some point on the 24th Aug.

Hellocatshome · 06/07/2023 15:52

@Rowgtfc72 hope your DD has a great time at Prom. Our results day arrangements are non existent. If I was relying on the school for info I wouldn't even know when results day is.

Changes17 · 06/07/2023 16:59

At DS’ school you can collect them yourself, nominate someone to collect them for you or wait a week (!!) for them to arrive in the post. I think it’s all part of an elaborate ploy to recruit them to the sixth form.

PhotoDad · 06/07/2023 17:04

I and DS are going to be away on his results day, at a sporting event he's involved in. Hope that the wi-fi in our holiday cottage works! But he's pretty much guaranteed progression into his school sixth form so I hope it won't be too much pressure.
