These are the voyages of the GCSE Enterprise. To support our DCs, bemoan exam boards and to boldly go through the last fortnight like no one has gone before!

The end is in sight. Good luck to all sitting Chemistry this morning.
Dd usually doesn't eat breakfast, but has been having a bagel or cereal most mornings thankfully. I bring her coffee in bed just before I take the dog walking, to give her 30mins to gently wake etc.

MerylSqueak · 13/06/2023 06:55

Good luck to DCs this morning and to all of you getting them happily out the door.

DD has WJEC Biology. She's extremely lacking in confidence in Sciences. Biology is her first science exam and her strongest one so I hope it's positive for her.

She seems to be sleeping well. I'm not!

Only three more after Chemistry this morning. Will be nice to be able to revise one subject at a time.

I feel strangely free because English was the only one he asked for help with. Although it was very grumpily received (apparently I like to give bad marks and the mark scheme is wrong). We also had a tirade on a practice paper being a really bad source which they'd never use (except they obviously had). Teenagers....

But we move on and thankfully I will be zero help with his A levels which is a relief.

I kind of agree with him here. Some of the stuff they put in the English mark schemes seems like absolute bollocks to me.
im not sure what English GCSE thinks it’s for now, really. But I’d probable scrap GCSEs altogether

HappiDaze · 13/06/2023 07:10

4 more exams left this week and then DD is free for the summer.

bendmeoverbackwards · 13/06/2023 07:10

Good luck to all.

Chemistry and Spanish today for dd. I thought she would stay at school between exams but she wants to come home in between so more running sound for me! I don’t really blame her, chemistry is finished by 10.15 or so and it’s such a hot day to stay at school till the afternoon.

TeenDivided · 13/06/2023 07:11

Best wishes to everyone today.

bendmeoverbackwards · 13/06/2023 07:13

I am really proud of dd how she is coping. She is ASD, had mental health problems in Year 10 and had poor school attendance. She seems to be taking the exams in her stride and I’m impressed with her early morning study sessions!

kidstaxidriver · 13/06/2023 07:19

Good luck to all today!

Neversaygoodbye · 13/06/2023 07:30

Good luck to all DC. It's really starting to feel like we're on the home straight.

Same here. I think the exams actually suit him. It's the social side of school which he finds most stressful or getting confused about what's required for homework etc. Exams are predictable in their structure and you don't have to talk to anyone!

Chemistry and Spanish today, maths tomorrow and then a bit of downtime before Friday's last hurrah of physics and geography. Phew

PicnicBunny · 13/06/2023 07:59

Good luck to everyone today, especially those sitting two exams!

PicnicBunny · 13/06/2023 08:00

Final week and DS seems to be happy and chilled like he’s got used to it now. Could also be the brilliant weather.

BaconAndAvocado · 13/06/2023 08:26

Good luck to all!
After today, only 2 to go 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Proud2care99 · 13/06/2023 08:55

Ds is having an ocd flare up today. He's battled and I use that term as that's what it is like since he was 10. It's been better than it has for a long time recently, he's also been having erp therapy. But this morning, not good at all and it's on the chemistry day which he wants to do for A level. 🥲

Hersetta427 · 13/06/2023 08:59

Chemistry and Spanish here too. DD hasn't done a scrap of SPanish and spent the last 3 dats doing chemistry. she is planing on using the couple of hours between the exams for a bit of spanish vocab practice. It has definitely been sacrificed for chemistry which is an A level choice.

3 more after today.

EverythingHurtsAndImHungry · 13/06/2023 09:10

Good luck to everyone today. Chemistry this morning, and then 3 more until we're done!!

ilovebagpuss · 13/06/2023 09:11

DD has been great but I notice her getting shorter with us and stressy if we mention anything so just leaving her to it and trying to offer gentle support. She has also struggled with attendance through MH issues the last few years and has been brilliant the last few months so it's probably taking it's toll.

Chinese and a glass of fizz booked for Friday so she has an end treat to look forward to.

I am a bit worried about 10 weeks of unstructured holiday but she has a part time job and is doing the NCS course one week. We aren't going away this year but I think I need to book my holiday so it is scattered throughout the weeks and we can do days out.

She is planning on taking Spanish for A Level as it's her best subject so perhaps she is feeling it more today.

Changes17 · 13/06/2023 09:21

Looks like it's going to be pretty hot here today, but mostly after Chemistry this morning. Then three more this week, last one next Wednesday. Think it might be quite hard to keep the momentum going for further maths, after most people finish on Friday.

BonjourCrisette · 13/06/2023 09:48

DD has two next week but most of her year will finish on Friday too. I think she's quite pleased to have some time with nothing much else to think about to tackle Additional Maths!

minisnowballs · 13/06/2023 09:55

DD finishes on Friday except for Latin Culture next Tuesday, which she informs me you could pass by 'just watching gladiator'. Instead, I've planned us a trip to Fishbourne Roman palace as 'revision' - she's never been and I'm clearly never going to get her to anything remotely Roman-based again after this week...

But SO nearly there chaps. Then she has sixth form 'bridging week', NCS, a trip to Poland with a friend (and her mum) for a music festival, and camping with some of her school friends before we go on holiday. I'll barely see her!

Fifiellz · 13/06/2023 10:18

AQA foundation Chemistry was "alright" apparently apart from some really hard questions at the end.

Spanish this afternoon which she has done barely any revision on because she has been so busy with chem!

TripleDaisySummer · 13/06/2023 10:19

There a fair bit or Roman related things on you tube -

Tasting history guy is quite good - food and history

A day out sound a really nice way to revise. I supposed the WJEC board doesn't so anything like that because I have thought it a good one locally as we have a wealth of Roman sites near us.

DS is revising in his room for additional maths - has apparently been granted a prom ticket and summer school in confirmed - so everything in his world is good for once.

DD1 - who I haven't noticed needing less parenting in L6 - though she is more hands off now- is settled we had a chat while I was making tea last night- 40% was resits which went well this time, 10% experiments which went well - so remaining is 40% split between two papers - and she has one exam left so one bad exam isn't the end.

Plus she feels other A-levels went well and she sure her offer will accept Welsh bac grade as one of the ones needed - so she should be fine and is settled down working.

Loads of kids out. How long is the combined science one?is it much shorter than the seperate?

HippyChickMama · 13/06/2023 10:35

kidstaxidriver · 12/06/2023 21:47

Ha ha yes that’s another one! I think my son had 3 different glasses on the go this afternoon for 3 different types of drinks and then I caught him trying to get another one out of the cupboard! Definite avoidance tactics! He’s now resorted to Love Island quoting “If electrolysis comes up, I’ve got no chance”………. 😂 hopefully some mindless TV will take his mind off it fairly swiftly!!

Mine does this and also complains that there are no clean glasses if the dishwasher is on. God forbid he should hand wash a glass 🙄
He's gone off to school quite happy for chemistry and Spanish, though I think he's just happy they will be done after today and he'll never have to study either again

EverythingHurtsAndImHungry · 13/06/2023 10:42

True to his usual eloquence, the response to my WhatsApp "How was the exam?" was ... "Chillin" 🙄
