These are the voyages of the GCSE Enterprise. To support our DCs, bemoan exam boards and to boldly go through the last fortnight like no one has gone before!

Hello, only 6 to go here and the school haven't decided when the last day is but DS has declared it to be Friday (last day of his exams) so Friday it is.

SheilaFentiman · 10/06/2023 22:45

Mine have some kind of leavers bbq the week after the last one but ds1 is heading on holiday before that!

Yay! 1 week to go!!
Well done all!

My son said his art exam piece has been chosen as a sample. What does that mean please, can anyone explain?

SheilaFentiman · 10/06/2023 23:09

I take it someone comes in and looks at it as he did a sculpture. I hope he doesn't get marked down, he already has a raw score.

SheilaFentiman · 11/06/2023 00:03

I think if the examiners don’t agree with the teacher score, they would rescore everyone. But I’m not 100%

Great title @SheilaFentiman

May they boldly explore what the world has to offer them once once they've conquered this frontier of knowledge

Yes the exam boards randomly choose various pupils art work from around the country to mark and check the marking is consistent, fair and accurate.

Same (plus DT that week) I'm starting to get end of exams FOMO as most people seem to be finishing this week.

mumonthehill · 11/06/2023 06:21

Thanks for new thread!

Frenchyq25 · 11/06/2023 06:44

Sons school have their leavers assembly on Friday, he still has his food tech exam on the 20th though.
It's nice to have the end in sight and I'm really proud at how he's handled it all.

DarkChocHolic · 11/06/2023 06:51

Thanks for this thread

PhotoDad · 11/06/2023 07:01

Thanks for the new thread!

DS will finish on 21st (Further Maths). 22nd is Book Return day. 23rd is Intro to Sixth Form (when I know he will be given summer work), and then he is playing in a concert in the evening... and then he's done!

TeenDivided · 11/06/2023 07:17

Placemarking ready for 3rd maths exam on Wednesday.

Then DD just has 1 assessment piece for her college course left, but worryingly she doesn't seem to think she has been taught much for it, nor done prep tasks, nor be clear what is wanted. And we need to 'park' this concern until after maths.

Teaforme23 · 11/06/2023 07:43

DD's last day on 14th.
English on Monday and Maths on Wednesday.
Good luck to all

Quinkle · 11/06/2023 08:06

Thanks for new thread. Eng Lang, Chem, Maths, Music, Physics this week and FM on 21st. Sixth Form intro days, awards evening and then Prom the next week and then done.

NCTDN · 11/06/2023 08:07

DS also has FM on 21st but levers assembly is on Thursday and he's still got 4 exams after that.

3sthemagicnumber · 11/06/2023 08:10

School here don't seem to have thought though the leaving stuff at all. DD (as senior prefect) has emailed the headteacher this weekend to ask what is going on. They are expected to attend school/lessons until 14th, then most people finish exams on 16th. Unsurprisingly, many kids have voted with their feet about going in for normal lessons now and so they have basically stopped going in in dribs and drabs and thus there has been no real last day in their tutor groups/shirt signing etc and it looks as if there might not be now. Which is rubbish.

The school has been though a great many changes over the last few years, and like many schools is suffering with staffing and finance issues. But this seems like such a small thing in terms of resources, and such an easy thing to do a better job of than they have.

Anyway, the finish line is in sight...

Rowgtfc72 · 11/06/2023 08:10

English Monday, chemistry Tuesday, maths and last one music Wednesday.
She's going in Thursday afternoon for band practice and Friday for choir practice and solo practice for the schools armed forces day performance that afternoon.
Last day is the following Monday but its only dress up and goodbye day till dinner, then she's done.
Prom isn't till the 6th July.

Changes17 · 11/06/2023 08:19

Five this week, one the week after - finishes on the 21st. Prom and last day both a week later.

Madcats · 11/06/2023 08:40

Thanks for the new thread:

DD has Business, Chemistry, Music and Physics this week. Hopefully the exam hall won't be too hot for the afternoon papers.

I think most of her friends are finishing on Friday; the ones doing Further Maths are probably going to get 8/9's without revising.

They had their Leaver's Assembly on 3 May, so just need to pop in for a 6th form day on 28th June.

HippyChickMama · 11/06/2023 08:43

6 exams left here, last one on the 16th, then leaver's assembly on the 19th and prom on the 21st. I think ds is starting to get a bit tired of it all now, he's currently shouting at FIFA on the Xbox far more than usual!

PicnicBunny · 11/06/2023 08:48

@SheilaFentiman Wonderful thread title! GCSE - the final frontier. Here’s a toast (with peanut butter) - To the next generation and getting through the Kobayashi Maru 🫖🍞 🙌🥂
