These are the voyages of the GCSE Enterprise. To support our DCs, bemoan exam boards and to boldly go through the last fortnight like no one has gone before!

DD sat iGCSE Chemistry (triple science) and said it was terrible. Anyone else sat this paper? Just one exam to go. Hurrah!

megletthesecond · 13/06/2023 10:48

minow Fishbourne is a lovely idea. My DD may do Latin so I will bear it in mind as we're not too far from there.

FWIW part of DS's half arsed RE "revision" was watching Life of Brian.

HappiDaze · 13/06/2023 11:01

DD is sitting Edexcel triple chemistry today. I might have finished already. I have had a text so it must have gone ok. She's aiming for a pass at 4/5 in all her subjects. She's been revising a lot but doesn't think she'll get much higher than that. She just happy to pass

Chemistry and Spanish here too. DD hasn't done a scrap of SPanish and spent the last 3 dats doing chemistry. she is planing on using the couple of hours between the exams for a bit of spanish vocab practice. It has definitely been sacrificed for chemistry which is an A level choice.

3 more after today.

I think we are sharing the same DD who is following the exact same formula!

Letskeepgoing · 13/06/2023 10:33

Loads of kids out. How long is the combined science one?is it much shorter than the seperate?

Yes - combined is 70 or 75 minss and seperate is 105mins

Hersetta427 · 13/06/2023 11:05

DD said that OCR Gateway triple chemistry was 'really bad'. I am hoping it wasn't as bad as she thinks otherwise we will need to re-think A levels.

You can have mine as well if you want another !

bellinisurge · 13/06/2023 11:08

Nearly there everyone.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 13/06/2023 11:12

Spanish this afternoon which she has done barely any revision on because she has been so busy with chem!

DD has focussed on Chem revision (despite giving it up and planning on doing Spanish for A level) because she reckons that the Spanish writing is the easiest of the 3 and if you revised heavily for the other 2 Spanish ones you should be OK (plus she practises Spanish in spare moments on Duo).

Letskeepgoing · 13/06/2023 11:13

AQA higher. Ds son said it was bad...easy concepts but the way they worked the questions was 'insane'
I'd be interested to see if anyone else found it hard. He didn't ask anyone after he just left. He wants to do it at A level and with Biology it's his strongest subject.

'Worded' not 'worked'

Oh that's good, she did say she couldn't revise much for it but thought she was just making excuses.

CornishCoast · 13/06/2023 11:16

DD got a bit stressed when they took her eraser during the exam and removed the wrapper on it. She felt like they were suspicious of her after that. Bless her, she’s never missed a homework or got a detention in her life. I’ve told her it’s the invigilators job to be suspicious and it’s part of the whole GCSE shitfest (might have used a politer term might not).

minisnowballs · 13/06/2023 11:18

I got a text 'quite good actually but didn't like the six markers'

Edexcel triple chemistry.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 13/06/2023 11:21

DD hated the first Chem paper so I'd settle for a vague 'OK' after this one, but who knows, sometimes she texts sometimes she doesn't and she's probably currently in a Spanish booster session.

kidstaxidriver · 13/06/2023 11:27

@CornishCoast my DS would not be a good barometer for Chemistry; however IGCSE edexcel was terrible apparently and he said even the kids predicted 9s didn’t enjoy it. Thankfully he was laughing about it - but apparently v tricky and much worse than the Paper 1

Yep. Hopefully the grade boundaries will be lowered

gcseeeee · 13/06/2023 11:35

DC found IGCSE chemistry ok but is liable to get the wrong end of the stick with questions so who knows...

CallmeIT · 13/06/2023 11:47

My DD thought AQA combined higher chem paper was “okay”. Glad to have another one gone. Just maths and physics left now. The end is in sight!!

Letskeepgoing · 13/06/2023 11:49

In the higher AQA there were things they hadn't even covered in class. I'm not sure if they were meant to be?

Oh God that sounds like DD's first History paper (which now feels like an age away).

Madcats · 13/06/2023 11:54

DD said iGCSE Edexcel paper 2H was "fine", which I am assuming is worse than "not bad, actually".

I think she is more worried that the weather is going to turn as soon as the exams are over.

Same (it being okay). Still got 4 more to go

lemonyellows · 13/06/2023 12:05

Ah I wish I got feedback. Ours aren't allowed to use phones anymore so I will have to wait until later and after Spanish writing this afternoon! Last day of two exams, then just one a day until Friday.
