These are the voyages of the GCSE Enterprise. To support our DCs, bemoan exam boards and to boldly go through the last fortnight like no one has gone before!

I woke up this morning and thought it was Monday. Am v relieved there's another day to go before tomorrow's English and business studies double whammy.

Six more exams to go ...

NCTDN · 11/06/2023 08:52

I don't know about the rest of you but here it's forecast thunder for tomorrow afternoon. It won't bother DS during an exam but could distract him and upset others.

Clymene · 11/06/2023 08:52

And thank you for the new thread!

Wolfcub · 11/06/2023 08:59

Thanks Sheila. No revision done here yesterday. 7 exams this week I think. Bloody teenagers

aleC4 · 11/06/2023 09:02

Dd finishes on 16th, 6 exams to go.
She's amazed with the way she's tackled them after a tough few years at secondary at times.
Year 11 has been a turning point for her and one teacher in particular has made a massive difference.
I just hope her hard work pays off.
They had their Leavers Day with assembly, shirt signing etc the last day before half term. They have intro to 6th form late June and prom is 7th July.
This afternoon I will be ironing her shirts for the last time 🥲

5 days left for DS, 7 exams to go. Last one is Geography paper 3 on Friday afternoon. Then he has a week off before Year 11 ball on Sat and Sports Day on Sun the next weekend. Followed by another week in school for an optional post-GCSE programme (he wants to attend as they have a day trip to Oxford and some taster A level classes). Then he has Speech Day on 01 July and heads off on a CCF camp on 02 July (at 0700 😱).

MargaretThursday · 11/06/2023 09:15

5 days left, 4 exams for ds.
He's looking forward to a summer of No school!

he's meant to have leavers ' assembly in a couple of weeks but he's performing that week instead.

Sitting here with the dog while everyone else is still in bed and it just occurred to me 6 months ago DS was on the verge of being suspended from school.

He was being accused by teachers on a daily basis of being under the influence of drugs which led to him becoming a very angry young man, they refused to accept the results of a private drugs test we paid for as proof he wasn't as it wasn't accurate. So he had no way of defending himself against the allegations.

His ex girlfriend was telling him she was pregnant with his baby which turned out to be a pack of lies designed to get him back but caused several of his friends to fall out with him for not being supportive even though he said if she was pregnant he would be there for the baby physically and financially.

6 months later he has completely turned himself around. He is actually revising and has been at school all day everyday throughout the exams including before and after school boosters even though most of his friends have given up going in. He went into the half term holiday sessions even though he was apparently the only boy there.

He is on track to get 4s or 5s in most things although a 4 in English Language is a lot less certain and the less said about Spanish the better.

I dont know really why I've written this post but I am just so incredibly proud of him and any attempt to tell him so are apparently incredibly embarrassing.

MerylSqueak · 11/06/2023 09:38

Good luck for Eng Lang tomorrow. DD (y10) has Biology Tuesday, Chemistry Friday and Physics the following Monday. She hates chemistry and physics. It's going to be a tough week or so!

Letskeepgoing · 11/06/2023 09:40

I will be pinching my sons phone today and we are definitely spending time revising for Eng Lang tomorrow.

Well done to your son!
That's so wrong of the school to accuse if there's no evidence? Why did they think he was under the influence of drugs?

What a lot he’s been through and still managed to get his head back in the game @Hellocatshome Wishing him, and you, so much positivity and strength and a brighter future. You’re not embarrassing at all and I feel proud of your son too just reading that ! It can only get better.

NCTDN · 11/06/2023 09:47

@Hellocatshome that's brilliant, no wonder you're proud!

The only reasons they could give was failure to make eye contact, mumbling and being overly emotional.

He was a 15 year old being told by his ex girlfriend she was pregnant, falling out with his friends over it and being falsely accused of being on drugs. That would be enough to make me cry as well.

As for the failure to make eye contact and mumbling he was a 15 year old boy and in my opinion that's a pretty normal thing for them to do.

Late slow morning here, DS is in full revision mode after a little chitchat and breakfast.

Might have to send him to the barbers though? Should I break his revision zone??

PicnicBunny · 11/06/2023 09:50

It will be his last week at school and I always think better groomed will help him also feel better? But not if it upsets his flow …

Hellocatshome · 11/06/2023 09:51

@PicnicBunny and @NCTDN thank you its actually hard to believe we are now where we are but I'm so thankful that we are and its all down to DS.

Clymene · 11/06/2023 09:52

Well done to your son @Hellocatshome. Really impressive level of maturity and self care there.

He needs regular breaks so I would send him to the barbers.

PicnicBunny · 11/06/2023 09:57

He moans about the barbers getting a haircut even during the best of times. I didn’t mention it yesterday because chemistry/maths flow. Today… English language. It’s close by just a few minutes walk! Maybe he could take his revision book if there’s a queue.

PhotoDad · 11/06/2023 09:58

Amazing, @Hellocatshome.

Ah maybe not then, DS goes to the barbers one a fortnight without fail. It would be a lovely break for him (he talks to the elderly Polish men about football) but obviously not for your DS. Is there any bitesize videos he could watch in the queue?

mumonthehill · 11/06/2023 10:14

Apparently i have become the English language bore again!! Roll on tomorrow lunchtime when I never have to think about it again!!

PennywisePoundFoolish · 11/06/2023 10:14

What a brilliant turnaround, I can't imagine how hard it must have been for you all.

PennywisePoundFoolish · 11/06/2023 10:18

DS2s school last day is officially Wednesday, though he has exams Friday.

He doesn't want to go to the leavers assembly so I'm picking him up straight after.

The school has said they are not allowed on the school bus after Wednesday morning. Nearly all pupils are bussed in as semi rural no walkable routes for most. I don't get it really but DS2 has said he'll make his own way home on Friday (I work part time nights and it's at my key sleeping point). Small thing but was unthinkable a couple of months ago he'd suggest getting a public bus or train.
