These are the voyages of the GCSE Enterprise. To support our DCs, bemoan exam boards and to boldly go through the last fortnight like no one has gone before!

DD is ingesting Ben and Jerry's Cookie Dough ice cream and chocolate milk. She has gone a bit wobbly and teary so I have suggested she step away from the Chemistry and have a bit of down time before bed. Honestly, I will be so glad when this is all over.

Hooray re pancakes. Dd refuses all breakfast except an oat milk hot chocolate which she makes herself- but I was allowed to buy her lunch today….

fingers crossed for chemistry tomorrow… could go either way for her I reckon.

If I had a pound for every single cup of tea I’ve consumed in these last 4 weeks, I’d be mightily rich too! 😉

Can I add number of glasses used in a day as it's inconceivable my son could use a glass for more than one drink. I think 10 is around the average.

We have the pancakes!!

Yes 🙌

kidstaxidriver · 12/06/2023 21:47

Ha ha yes that’s another one! I think my son had 3 different glasses on the go this afternoon for 3 different types of drinks and then I caught him trying to get another one out of the cupboard! Definite avoidance tactics! He’s now resorted to Love Island quoting “If electrolysis comes up, I’ve got no chance”………. 😂 hopefully some mindless TV will take his mind off it fairly swiftly!!

During mocks I had made scrambled eggs and bagels and salmon and lovely stuff which he enjoyed because into his whole cooked breakfast. This time he won’t have any of that. Too nervous. So every morning I put a plate of fruits on table, mangoes, blueberries and watermelon with raspberries, and he eats most of that. But has to eat a pain au chocolat fresh from oven. Feel like was doing too much …but now I read these posts I’m relieved! I’ve actually screen shot post about pancakes earlier to show DH ! Lol he was saying I’m faffing too much.

Saisong · 12/06/2023 22:03

My poor baby, her period arrived this afternoon 😢 She is doubled over with cramps and still gamely wanted me to test her on chemistry. I've sent her to bed early with paracetamol and a hottie. Just hope the worst is over before tomorrow morning.

ChristmasLightsLover · 12/06/2023 22:04

DS1. Eurgh my gawd Mum. You're just so over invested in me and my exams.

Also DS1 Errrr, where are the bacon butties???

Me. Well you told me to stop being so invested, so I did!!!!

ChristmasLightsLover · 12/06/2023 22:10

Also.... ;))

Has anyone else gotten tired of looking at grade boundaries after each exam?

Well, if I got 67 on this paper in Geography, I need a << sucks teeth dramatically >> 56 on the next for an 8. No, wait, I can't count, I need 66....

After. Every. Paper. And then he changes his mind on what mark he thinks he's gotten.

AND ;))

In our house it's not glasses that we count. It's the number of showers. What's going on there?

BonjourCrisette · 12/06/2023 22:14

OMG, glasses, cups and bowls. Bane of my life at normal times but I swear the entire contents of the kitchen are currently in her room.

spiderlight · 12/06/2023 22:20

Yes, we have two packs of six, and only Wednesday's maths paper to go. He'll probably never want to look at them again after this week!

I was also the Muppet in the click-and-collect queue in Wilko at 6.58 on Friday evening for what appeared to be the last three-pack of Pilot Ecoball pens on the blooming planet because they are apparently the only pens he can possibly write his exams with and he'd lost his last one. Amazon couldn't get them to us in time for today, but Wilko on the opposite side of the city had one pack in stock. The woman who came out with them was like 'Um....is this everything....?' And of course, first words when I walked back in through the door - 'I've found it!' 🙄

PicnicBunny · 12/06/2023 22:23

I’ve said to him after the prom that I am actually done. My job as a mum. He’s a grown man:)

  • (there has to be a cut off point !) And he said Noooo mum I’m always going to need you! To which I replied I dannae I canna help you no longer laddy withya maths and further maths and physics ‘n chemistry! I giv’n it all I got! P.s. Join a group! He’s a hugger so we hug a lot.
PicnicBunny · 12/06/2023 22:24

But seriously, are we done after these exams? I mean, our jobs as mums? Someone tell me it ends soon hahaha

MrsHamlet · 12/06/2023 20:54

Those snacks look like marking snacks to me...

Haha @MrsHamlet yes that too!

Well done on the pancakes @spiderlight

PennywisePoundFoolish · 12/06/2023 09:58

Thank you- school had confirmed he's in the exam. They were aware of the issue and school buses were stuck too, so there were a fair few affected.

He seemed calm so I'm hoping he wasn't too disrupted by it. He read through the guide that was linked on this thread for English, so a bit of extra prep time and he found it helpful.

My nerves are jangling still.

Oh no @PennywisePoundFoolish that’s so stressful.

DD told me they started last week’s maths exam late as 2 girls were stuck in traffic. There seems to be so many road closures and temporary lights recently.

bendmeoverbackwards · 12/06/2023 23:03

Interesting to read about food!

My dd doesn’t eat breakfast which has meant her doing her morning exams on an empty stomach which isn’t ideal but what can you do 🤷‍♀️ I’ve offered her something to eat in the car on the way to school but it was refused.

I’ve been treating her to lunch from Subway or Wenzels most days after exams.

BonjourCrisette · 12/06/2023 23:28

DD doesn't like breakfast either. I've been sending her with a homemade mocha to drink on the tube on the way in as at least that means she's had a milky drink. Have offered her many types of breakfast and non-breakfast foods but all have been declined. I am not a breakfast-eater either so I do have a bit of sympathy.

spiderlight · 12/06/2023 23:50

That's bad timing, @SaSaisong 😕

DS has got steadily less confident about today's English as the day's gone on, from 'It was fine' all the way to worrying that he hasn't passed. Hope it's just fatigue setting in. He managed to get sunburnt this afternoon, which hasn't helped - we were forecast heavy rain and he was supposed to come home straight after the exam, so he didn't have sunscreen on, but he and his friend randomly walked miles to the park in blazing sun and back, and he's ginger, so he's very pink and grumpy tonight.

grass321 · 13/06/2023 06:24

Only three more after Chemistry this morning. Will be nice to be able to revise one subject at a time.

I feel strangely free because English was the only one he asked for help with. Although it was very grumpily received (apparently I like to give bad marks and the mark scheme is wrong). We also had a tirade on a practice paper being a really bad source which they'd never use (except they obviously had). Teenagers....

But we move on and thankfully I will be zero help with his A levels which is a relief.

mumonthehill · 13/06/2023 06:26

@PicnicBunny i do hate to tell you but not done yet!! Alevels are tough and elder ds degree had its moments of him needing support. Strap your self in!!!!

Letskeepgoing · 13/06/2023 06:32

Morning everyone!!

Good luck for Chemistry today!

Thunder storms predicted here today. Such a warm night I had to sleep on top the covers.
