I have been following this thread carefully and it has helped me to timely reject all but one offer, thank you ; but rather unexpectedly we got a Tiffin Girls offer yesterday. We live in Wimbledon so 45-55 mins away by train and bus. My issue is how girls will socialise? Do Tiffin group according to postcode or is it random? How likely is it there will be year 7 girls in Wimbledon? Many of my questions at offer holder days revolved around this for indies but it’s too late to ask Tiffin that now. Do girls even hangout after school? Or does that happen at weekends? Can anyone help? Thank you.

Tolacar · 02/03/2023 08:19

Thank you

MammaMia34 · 02/03/2023 08:41

Our Dd got Tiffin Girls! So happy.

We loved KGS and the co-ed environment and were planning on sending her there, but now that we got Tiffins, perhaps we should go for Tiffins.

Choosing Tiffins obviously would remove the huge financial commitment if we’d chosen KGS. Our Dd loved KGS though I haven’t talked too much about Tiffin Girls with her as I wasn’t sure whether she’d get in.

What shall I do? What would you do in my shoes? Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Mystery2345 · 02/03/2023 08:51

Mammamia go for the one which is free! An excellent school. And Free!!

Shiningsun · 02/03/2023 08:51

Thank you for the thread.

SamPoodle123 · 02/03/2023 08:52

@MammaMia34 I think it depends on a lot of factors. How comfortable you are financially, distance from schools etc. If it were me, I would only accept if Tiffans were close enough, such as 20-30 minutes max. We did not apply because it would be one hour for us. For me, that is just too far. However, for others it might be okay. It really depends.

As I posted on the last thread our DS got Tiffin. I’ve been lurking on your threads as I knew a few DC were sitting for Tiffin, but didn’t join in as the chat was mostly about indies. Just want to say hello and well done to all the DC and I’ll be following along hopefully picking up bits and pieces about Tiffin! Just looking on the website about the uniform fitting at Stevensons which sounds hilariously formal! Our other options were also lovely schools but the location of Tiffin in Kingston is perfect and we loved the feel, buildings and facilities when we looked round.
Out of the 15 boys in his class at primary, no more than 2 are going to any one school which is reallt
surprising, so I’m not too worried about him not knowing anyone, they are all being separated anyway.

Thanks for the new thread @QuiteAJourney!

Leaving a pin to follow - thanks @QuiteAJourney !

Thesoundofmusic23 · 02/03/2023 09:16

@Boppolo I think there should be quite a few coming from Wimbledon and also from near by Raynes Park etc. Many will travel together and make friends that way. Also I know Tiffin Girls used to set tutor groups in part by location or direction of travel to encourage friendships amongst girls who come from the same/ similar areas. Perhaps you could ask the school if they still do this.

Huge congrats on the Tiffins offer - that's no mean feat! We're not sitting 11+ until next year, but my understanding from open days and talking to existing parents is that all these top schools have girls coming from far and wide. Just look at the bus network for LEH - it's an enormous geographical spread. Or ditto the map on the CLSG website of where girls travel in from. And I know SPGS says you have to be within a 1 hour journey time, but that still means you have some girls coming in from Golders Green and others from south of Wimbledon - they're not easy socialising distances. I have asked the question (of both girls and teachers) at many schools re socialising, and the feedback I've got is that very little happens during the week, or even at weekends in the earlier years, as they're all so busy doing a million extra curricular activities. And by the time their socialising at weekends, they're perfectly capable of getting on buses / tubes / trains to do that independently.
I think 45 mins is pretty standard travel time for secondary schools (though of course it all ultimately comes down to personal preference, esp of your DD as she'll be the one doing the travel for the next 7 years). I would be genuinely astonished if there weren't other girls from Wimbledon or the surrounding area at Tiffins. At least Tiffins has an inner and designated catchment - unlike Henrietta Barnett where girls really are travelling from half way across the country - so the geographical spread is at least a bit contained.
But if you want a school with a local feel, and your DD wants to have most of her friends be local, then Tiffins probably isn't the right choice.
From everything I've heard though (and we have friends in Y7 there at the moment) it's a fantastic school, and of course free!

@QuiteAJourney thanks

FriendlyMom · 02/03/2023 09:31

Thanks for the new thread. Huge congrats to all the offers! Fingers crossed for WL moves too!!

MummyRules1 · 02/03/2023 09:40

On behalf of friends I am wondering if there is any movement on the WLs for the following:

  • Emanuel
  • Streatham & Clapham High School
  • Royal Russell
  • Alleyn's

Has anyone who was originally on the WL for any of those school been told they now have an offer?

Hello! Congrats! We are not far from you and also going to Tiffin girls, I'll drop you a DM if that's ok!

There has definitely been movement in the SCHS WL- I know a few girls to have been given offers from it in the last few days….

sugarcookie5 · 02/03/2023 10:07

Thank you for the new thread! We released other places and officially accepted Halliford yesterday so thrilled for our DS as it’s his and our first choice- such a lovely school! Any other DS’s also joining this September? Or current parents? Well done to all with Tiffin offers and all offers - this has been a long process- well done to all the DC’s and you Parents too!

Ilikelists · 02/03/2023 10:21

Anyone know of someone moving off the fhss waitlist? Or Emmanuel?

Dallasdays · 02/03/2023 10:21

Thanks @QuiteAJourney !

KPA · 02/03/2023 10:40

We were told by Emanuel we have a very slim chance of getting an offer from the waitlist

KPA · 02/03/2023 10:41

Am also waiting on Whitgift waitlist. Anyone have any experience of this school or is on the waitlist? I know the list is very short but they have ranked the boys.
