It feels a bit like a wrap up with the thread - most people now decided and signed to the school where their DC will be in Y7.

On my side, I did not want to pass the opportunity to thanks those on these thread that have shared our journey ... we are all different, as are our circumstances and DC, but I firmly believe that the space provided for this thread has helped us (well, at least, it has helped me). Along the way I have made (somewhat unexpectedly) friends and felt part of a community. [A community with frictions on occasion, but a really positive experience overall]

Some of you may remember that my first post was about how I did not know how the process was going to play out with a smart but very anxious DD and, despite being in a prep for the last 3 years, we had the usual doubts about how things were going to pan out. She ended up coping with the process incredibly well (probably better than me!) and got offers from all the schools she applied to, with a couple of significant academic scholarships (including to Woldingham, one of her favourite schools) in the mix. Her preferences changed throughout the process (partly, as a result of the admissions processes - IPS going downhill, Emanuel going up) but also as she matured and got more confident about what she wanted in a school. She ended up choosing WHS (KGS was a very close second) and she is enthused about it (as are we).

Posting this hoping that other parents going through the process in the future can see that things can, and do, work out (sometimes in unexpected ways).

@QuiteAJourney - perfectly put. So happy to have shared this gruelling expedition with you all. It has been bumpy at times, that's for sure! Grateful for all the support, advice and insights received - and I hope I was able to help others also.
Best of luck to you and your DCs and I'm sure our chats will continue as September approaches!

Daydreamscometrue · 07/03/2023 13:30

@QuiteAJourney Thank you for starting the thread and keeping it going. It's been a life line for me and I'm grateful for your help and support and that of those who have posted. I agree with @NellyCortado ,I'm sure our chats will continue when they begin their transition to secondary school.

QuiteAJourney · 07/03/2023 14:00

@Daydreamscometrue @NellyCortado Thanks for your lovely messages and the chats. Like you, keen to keep the conversation going as our DC enter into Y7.

PS I did not start the first thread (was not brave enough) but have tried to keep it going .... I do not think that any of us thought that we would be on the 7th iteration by the time of decisions.

OP posts:
momomamiko · 07/03/2023 14:40

Have been hugely helpful - thank you to all who kept it alive. Would love to stay in touch through to the transition.

I find myself wondering if we will meet any of the parents on this thread in real life at DC's new school (and not even know it of course). Are there any school soecific threads elsewhere on MN?

QuiteAJourney · 07/03/2023 15:18

@momomamiko I have been wondering the same re: meeting in real life. There is a sizeable KGS bunch on the thread and we all ended up going to the same interview slots / offer holder events... I could not stop myself from looking around and trying to guess....
DD decided on WHS and I am not aware on many others on the thread, or at least people that have openly stated it (apart from @Taurus23). Maybe worth stating which was the final decision when we post now....that may prompt others?

@QuiteAJourney and @momomamiko - good idea to mention final decisions in case anyone wants to connect or start separate threads.
DS is going to KCS and I'd love to hear from anyone else with Y7 starter!

Dallasdays · 07/03/2023 15:58

Hi all,

Thank you so much @QuiteAJourney for keeping these threads going - I have found them invaluable and am also keen to continue the conversation into Year 7. My DS will be going to KGS - super excited!

Daydreamscometrue · 07/03/2023 16:03

DS is going to LU in September.

underthesea3 · 07/03/2023 16:06

Have loved these threads and would definitely love to stay on them into year 7. It's a fascinating cross section of the SW London pool of children! My DS is going to Hampton and we are very excited.

Yes great idea!

KPA · 07/03/2023 19:44

We sadly have not been offered a place from our schools off the waitlist so will be staying put at our school which goes to year 8.
