Looking forward to continuing the journey together

We’re waitlist at Putney but no email as yet. Has anyone else had their waiting list email?

Luckily it’s not our first choice and we have Surbiton in the bag which we prefer.

It is a bit of a downer though in terms of what to expect for WHS and LEH!

What a process this is!!

Sorry to hear re: Putney but, as you say, best to focus on the offer from Surbiton (which is excellent news given you prefer it)

WLs do move and a WL at Putney should not mean a no-go elsewhere. Hang in there @Sass22, keep your spirits high!

Has anyone rejected any offers yet? From those who got offers last week and before.

A friend has 5 offers so far and is waiting on one more this weekend. They've said they'll make their decision (debate it) and then release offers next week. I think most people holding several offers are the same.

Eighthour · 07/02/2023 14:46

Five offers - bound to be movement over the next few weeks. Lots of families we know have put in 7-8 applications this year - it seems to increase every year.

Ernern · 07/02/2023 14:46

Does anyone know when LEH will release the result?

We had to offers before Christmas and rejected on (Sutton High) in January after careful consideration.
We are now waiting on the rest and, like before, will consider and release asap - very aware that our rejection can help other families.

Sorry, I meant "two offers"

Please please please release any offers you don’t want asap. It’s torture to be on a waitlist and even worse to be called late on and offered when your DD has already felt she is going elsewhere. DD’s best friend was on three waitlists last year and was called by one in July. Even if you are down to a top two, release your others! Someone somewhere will be glad you did.
well done to all the PHS offers. The PHS list does move, so don’t give up hope. It definitely moved last year I think.

Lolakath19 · 07/02/2023 14:59

@kcw23 Great news and well done to your DD. Is that your top option?

Congrats on all those with offers and sorry to those without an offer yet.

Letters/emails are still coming through until the end of the week so there’s still hope. And fingers crossed on WL movement.

Nottoolongtogo · 07/02/2023 15:23

Is anyone able to tell us what time the emails (if there were any) came out for various schools on the Friday? I know someone mentioned godolphin coming out at 10am so hoping for more intel on the others. Thanks in advance!

Pigeon25 · 07/02/2023 15:23

Epsom offers supposed to come out tomorrow, I wonder if they still will given what’s happened….

From last year's thread, it seems that IPS, KGS and Emanuel were after lunch. But I would personally not read too much into it - the PHS example shows that schools do change their timings from one year to another.

Thank you very much, that’s very useful and yes will save the ongoing refreshing till the afternoon 😂

Justlikingit · 07/02/2023 16:29

Wow congratulations to all those with offers, commiserating with those with rejections
just to reiterate WL, do move, even right until September

All the best for the rest of the awaited results

Ernern · 07/02/2023 16:38

Congratulations to all those who received offers! Commiserating with those WL and rejections! There's always hope, good luck!

I have never been so longing for a day to end and another to come... 😅

HawaiiWake · 07/02/2023 16:49

Agree always release if having multiple offers and not wait till after offer holder days, grammar schools etc. I know a few families last 3 years with multiple offers and knowing it is between 2 schools and holding on to all offers until deadline. I don’t think this is fair for those on WL.

invigilator · 07/02/2023 16:59

I agree with not holding on to multiple offers but in reality it doesn't make much difference releasing offers before state offers day as WL are very, very unlikely to move before then anyway.

That is an interesting comment. I would have thought that there are many people applying to private schools for which the state offers are irrelevant and that, therefore, that would suffice to potentially move the dial.
A different issue is that schools might be naturally wary of moving into the WL unless that they are sure that they are not covering quota with straight offers..but that comes from that fact that be people are holding until last moment (which coincides with state offer day). So if behaviours were to change (admittedly, no small ask, although we can all contribute) WLs will indeed move.
As a related matter, I would be quite interested on people's intel on when WL offers have materialised. [Probably preparing myself for it.. 🙃)

We got a WL place the day of or day after State offers day.

In SW London and know lots of people who will take State over Private if they get eg Tiffin, Lady Margarets, Sacred Heart, Fulham Boys, Oratory etc.

Obviously some will never consider state in a million years but plenty of others do.

Agree that there are significant numbers considering state alternatives and also significant numbers that don't. Impossible to say, out of the cohort applying for private, what are the precise numbers beyond saying that they are large.

My comment referred to the fact that the movement happening on or about state offer day could also be related to people holding multiple offers until close to the deadline ... in a world, like this year, where a number of schools have to be cautious with the offering because of over-offering last year (and might rely more on WL), I would not disregard the impact of this "extreme offer holding" and would very much encourage people to release their offers.
