We got waitlist. How does waitlist work. Not sure how I’m going to break this to DD

SamPoodle123 · 07/02/2023 12:31

It is so exciting to find out! I wonder when the emails will come out? I wonder if this means FHSS might update Thursday (they confirmed emails will go out Friday).

SamPoodle123 · 07/02/2023 12:32

Putney emails are out!

Parent123456 · 07/02/2023 12:33

@Sass22 are you waiting for anything else? is it your first choice? Maybe worth waiting for some other news before telling your DD.
Waitlist tends to move the first week of march because people had time to decide over the holidays and state offers are out.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you

If PHS is high up your list, call Admissions soonest and ask where DD is on the WL. Make it really clear to them that it's your first choice, and that you'll accept it if offered (if that's true, obviously!)

There will be some movement over the next couple of weeks as offers roll in - some will reject PHS quite quickly, others perhaps not until after offer holders' days, perhaps some not til national offers day for state schools on March 1st. It's definitely not all over if she's WLed. But I totally sympathise that it's a horrible conversation to have to have with a 10 or 11 year old.

SWLParent · 07/02/2023 12:34

Congratulations to everyone with the PHS offers!

Workhar · 07/02/2023 12:35

Putney High offer email is out.

Sass22 · 07/02/2023 12:35

This was our first choice we applied for others but just feel that if she didn’t get this she wouldn’t have got the others. From what I heard waitlist doesn’t really move that much as they over offer. Just can’t stop crying right now

Sass22 · 07/02/2023 12:36

Congratulations to everyone.

SWLParent · 07/02/2023 12:38

definitely don’t think that’s the case @Sass22 , a lot of people had partly rejections this year, it’s been an odd year. Won’t be any reflection on other offers so please stay positive

FriendlyMom · 07/02/2023 12:38

@Sass22 do call to ask where on the WL you are and reiterate your interest/top choice! There will be movement - as PP have said, WL move! It is just the first day - by March 7 things may change for the better!

@Workhar congrats!!

Lolakath19 · 07/02/2023 12:41

@Sass22 Please dont be upset and don t loose hope the waitlist moves otherwise they would not have it and now all schools are very careful of not over offering too much to not end up in a tricky position.
As @LondonMum20222 said, make sure to let them know that it is your first choice if it is and tell them you would accept right away. Send them regular email (maybe once a week alternate with a call the week after) so that they know you are really interested and that the first name they will have in mind if they have a space is you.
A waitlist at PHS does not mean she will not be offered elsewhere. Those are different exams / days!

Sass22 · 07/02/2023 12:41

Thank you @SWLParent for your kind words and for everyone on here. This has been the only place that has helped me keep my sanity. The worse part is just telling my DD as everyone in class talk and she’s very sensitive.

Agreed! My daughter is at PHS and was waitlisted. She's absolutely thriving there. We called up and the Admissions team were amazing and kept in touch with us throughout until the offer came through

Hi @Sass22, please don't give up hope - 2 years ago 5 girls from my son's school got in to PHS off the waitlist. It will move a lot!

@Sass22 Putney’s waitlist definitely moves and till April-May.

I totally empathise with how you must feel but there's often no correlation between offers from different schools. Some girls get PHS where others get WHS, some get SPGS but not G&L. It happens every year. It's definitely not time to despair yet.

What other schools do you have in the offing?

Workhar · 07/02/2023 12:45

Did anyone read the fine print? Anything to take notice of?

Sass22 · 07/02/2023 12:47

Thank you all so much. Such kind words I appreciate it. Your words have made me feel a little lighter I will not lose hope and will let them know that Putney high school is my number 1 school 😘. To be honest I will be happy that she is given a place any school applied.

Sass22 · 07/02/2023 12:52

G&L didn’t get second stage. WHS,JAGS,CLGS, FHSS and LU as a co ed

LondonMum20222 · 07/02/2023 12:54

@Sass22 Your DD has TONS in the running still. This is absolutely not the time to lose hope (as hard as I know it must be to have a WL as the first one). To get to second stage of LU is a huge achievement in itself and bodes well overall.

Workhar · 07/02/2023 12:57

@Lolakath19 @SamPoodle123 did you read the offer Letter in detail? Anything to take notice of?

Lolakath19 · 07/02/2023 13:00

@Workhar i can t see anything strange in the offer letter/email . Does not mention first come first serve kind of thing

Eighthour · 07/02/2023 13:01

I've just started anew thread on this but we've sadly had one offers and I wonder if anyone has heard of offers after a straight rejection letter (no wait list)? Posting here for traffic.

@Lolakath19 So I believe it’s safe to wait till early next week atleast or till their offer holder tour before making the final decision?
