Looking forward to continuing the journey together

KGS have said publicly that once you get an interview is either an offer or waiting list place (fingers crossed for all waiting)

That is what we are hoping for... hopefully a general interview takes you to offer or WL.

Spgs said “final decision” and whs “application outcome” and jags “11+ assessment results”without giving anything away, godolphin was “offer of a place”, clsg “11+ offer”, FHS “11+ offer letter”.

Thanks! That is interesting. We are waiting for FHSS and G&L.

SamPoodle123 · 03/02/2023 21:33

@EweCee that is nice :) I like that way best.

secondaryquandries · 03/02/2023 21:56

So I have a question about accepting an offer. If you accept an offer and pay the deposit (usually around £1500), are you then also legally bound to pay the first terms fees eg. If you get a late grammar school wait list place.

I stand to be corrected but I do not think so.

@secondaryquandries most schools require a terms notice, so if you let them know before Easter you should be fine. If it was a waiting list place later in the year you probably would have to pay the first term.

I stand to be corrected but I do not think so.

As far as I understand it, no but always worth checking the fine print for each individual school as to when the first term's fees are due / at what point you are liable for those fees whether your child attends or not. I suspect the cut-off is Easter.

secondaryquandries · 03/02/2023 22:20

Thank you all. This is not something we plan to do but worth knowing how it all works so we can make decisions quickly once the offers are out.

QuiteAJourney · 03/02/2023 22:22

@secondaryquandries As said above, it will depend on the school but, for reference, the offers we got referred to one term's notice, that for September 2023 that would be 1st day back after Easter.
Not sure how much movement will be in grammar places after that.

Thanks @QuiteAJourney

QuiteAJourney · 03/02/2023 23:21

@secondaryquandries Worth checking on the offers you have got and any other forthcoming ones for similar / comparable paragraphs.

Quick question. Does any one have any indication of when to expect IPS results?
The only think that I have found in an email is February. Their website already refers to next year's application process (with results in mid February).
I had assumed 10th like all the others that we are waiting for, but just wondering if they might come early. Any one has asked / knows any better? Also, did they release as same time as others last year?
Thanks in advance for any intel.

Bit out of date but when DD sat IPS a few years ago they were a week later than everyone else! Hopefully this has changed though!

Thanks for this - I really hope it is not the case.
They had the second (and final) stage before Christmas so it would be farcical if they release results after schools that have had their final stage in mid or late January. If they do so, they will be harming their position in people's preferences greatly, especially after a process where they have not done themselves many favours.

@QuiteAJourney I thought IPS was the 10th?

momomamiko · 04/02/2023 06:13

Huge congrats to all offer holders for Kew, WL, CFC, Radnor, Reeds & Surbiton - what a great way to end the week!

Now less than a week to go for the rest - fingers crossed for more good news!

QuiteAJourney · 04/02/2023 08:32

@Daydreamscometrue That is what I have at the back of my mind but I have gone through emails and cannot see a reference to it and the website is not helpful either. Hence wondering if anyone has anything firmer.

OP posts:
secondaryquandries · 04/02/2023 08:43

@QuiteAJourney same. I wonder if it was said or written somewhere that it was on the 10th but website just says mid Feb.

1forward2back · 04/02/2023 08:47

I think - but just from memory - that last year all results were out by half term, so IpS would be 10th latest. I do remember one school being the Monday of half term though.

QuiteAJourney · 04/02/2023 09:27

@1forward2back Thanks.
@secondaryquandries I ended looking at last year's thread (where, incidentally, IPS seems to have been less popular...I think that the HM change was still trickling through) and they released offers by email on the last day before half term. So I think that we will have to wait until the 10th.

Ibstock is definitely letters sent out on 9th, with an email sent on the 10th. A while back I was double checking websites for any more clarity of dates beyond ‘early Feb’ and noted it down at the time in the spreadsheet! Good luck all!!

kittybloom · 04/02/2023 09:55

Morning. Long time lurker here. I've become addicted to this thread over time. My DD has an offer from Surbiton High and is delighted! We only applied for two schools (so against the tide of this thread which has stressed me out at times!) and we await to hear from KGS next Friday which is where older DC is. Surbiton is our preference though but KGS is a fantastic school and I'm happy to share my experience of it.

Couple of points which I hope help people:

Ibstock offers - my memory from older DC a couple of years ago is that these came out the last Friday before half term by post (prob post and email now) and on the same day as KGS. So I would expect Friday 10 Feb.

KGS offers - I know there has been a lot of discussion that if your child proceeds to interview then it is a least WL and if general interview then v.likely to get an offer. I really hope that is true for us all. I just wanted to balance expectations and mention that in my older DC year, there was a lovely child from the same school who had a general interview but got WL only and the child was never offered off the waiting list (the mum was v.keen on the school and I know regularly chased up and expressed her interest). It was all fine, child very happy at another school mentioned on this thread. So a general interview may well mean a WL offer which doesn't convert (sorry).

QuiteAJourney · 04/02/2023 10:06

@Nottoolongtogo Many thanks, really useful to get confirmation.

@kittybloom noted on the WL being a "maybe". Hopefully, even if WL, there will be (more) movement (this year). And congrats on the Surbiton High offer!

Daydreamscometrue · 04/02/2023 10:17

@kittybloom thanks for the intel re KGS. It's really important to manage expectations so this is useful to know. My only experience of a waiting list place was some years ago at City boys. That never ended up being a place despite repeated phone calls.

Daydreamscometrue · 04/02/2023 10:19

@QuiteAJourney it would have been lovely to have heard from Ibstock before the 10th but that's not looking likely.
