@QuiteAJourney fingers crossed!

Something someone mentioned has been playing on my mind....do you all think that the schools look at the kids' addresses and the distance to the school to assess if they're serious and therefore whether to bother giving them an offer? So, for example, might CFC be more likely to give an offer to a resident of Esher than a resident of Twickenham?

QuiteAJourney · 30/01/2023 20:39

@KindergartenKop I do not think that they decide whether to offer or not on that basis, but they might consider when estimating how many offers they transfer into acceptances. My DD was asked at Emanuel where she lived and how she was planning to get to school.

DS was asked at st Benedict’s too how close he lives and if he likes living so close

no idea why they ask this though and if it truly matters 😐

confu5ed · 30/01/2023 20:49

Congrats on the offers so far. Good luck to everyone for the next few weeks!

I hope the schools realize that many parents are willing to relocate from their current area. Why would parents pay such a hefty registration fees and make the kids appear for 2-3 stages of exams & interviews if they are not willing to let the child commute or relocate closer to that particular school? We have not applied to a single school close to our current home.

Firenze12 · 30/01/2023 20:56

Thanks @QuiteAJourney looking forward to all the good news!!

KindergartenKop · 30/01/2023 21:13

My son hasn't been asked about his address but it's obvious from his school and it's on the application naturally!

I agree that assumptions that closer will be preferred is so erroneous at the individual level ... as it happens, one of our preferred schools is the furthest away of the lot. Conversely, our closest and most academic on our list is not in our top 3-4.
Hence, I would assume that schools are not using it at the individual level but more as an overall indication.

we re in Ealing and see so many boys going to Hampton in the mornings so it’s obvious Hampton is not really bothered

perhaps some schools care on the distance or at least trying to get a reaction out if the kid in the interview to see how keen their are

momomamiko · 30/01/2023 21:37

My DS was asked at LU how he planned to make his way to school if he got in.

Not sure to what extent it is relevant in the offers made.

Daydreamscometrue · 30/01/2023 21:50

I can't imagine the schools would be too concerned unless the child was over an hour away in terms of commute.
