Looking forward to continuing the journey with all of you!!

But there aren't that many more kids than usual. The schools will make more offers and your DC will get one!

knopka · 03/01/2023 20:30

@BlueTick
DS said NVR paper was quite long hut he completed it. However I think sitting CAT4 earlier helped to be familiar with NVR.

EweCee · 03/01/2023 20:32

I think Claremont had about 1000 sitting (might be too high, but definitely close to that). And for only 60 places, so 30 girls and 30 boys - very few places ….. The Head did say that they had a 200% increase in applicants and was no longer ‘gently selective’. As this whole process started, Claremont was our first choice on paper but after visiting and seeing the number who sat the exam (and logistics of getting there) I am not as set on it. If we get an offer, great, but there are closer schools we are hoping to get an offer for too.

KindergartenKop · 03/01/2023 21:03

1000! Ouch! It's a lovely school though.

SallyGardener · 03/01/2023 21:12

@KindergartenKop feeling a lot more scared reading this.

We have two interviews lined up and also have a couple more exams to sit - it has not been our best Christmas.

KindergartenKop · 03/01/2023 21:17

@SallyGardener argh much sympathy on the exams. My son says he peaked on the second one and declared all the others to be rubbish.

secondaryquandries · 03/01/2023 21:24

My son has two interviews this week too and waiting to hear from two schools as well.

Daydreamscometrue · 03/01/2023 21:33

My DS has an exam and interview this week and an interview next week. We're then waiting on whether he has interviews at three schools.

elevenplusmum22 · 03/01/2023 21:39

Has anyone received a Christmas card from Claremont? I saw a comment on a thread from one person saying they had received one and now wondering if only those being interviewed would have received one.

Bloody awful process the 11 plus. Not long until it is all over.

EweCee · 03/01/2023 21:44

@elevenplusmum22 we received a Christmas card from Claremont on the 16th but it was an email, not a physical card. I would imagine everyone who sat the test would have received one though?

Daydreamscometrue · 03/01/2023 22:21

@elevenplusmum22 it's hard not to read into such things like that. We didn't apply to Claremont but are missing Christmas post.

QuiteAJourney · 03/01/2023 22:25

@Daydreamscometrue same here with the post so I am not reading anything as virtually nothing has arrived for weeks. My DD sent us some documents on the 14th December and we are still waiting!
Hopefully the schools will get the hint (if not done so already) that any communication needs to be by primarily by email.

I meant my DD's school ...

@QuiteAJourney yes I thought the same re any correspondence going forward. Our post is dodgy at the best of times so we often get stuff delivered to work.

elevenplusmum22 · 03/01/2023 22:38

Thank you @QuiteAJourney @Daydreamscometrue and @EweCee I have just checked and did receive the email version.

I have been through this very recently with my elder one and have generally been more chilled this time around as I know everyone ends up somewhere eventually (and as far as I have seen in the right place for that child) but as we reach the last hurdle(s) it is hard not to over analyse a bit.

Wishing everyone the very best over the next month or so!

@BlueTick Not same 1000 but I would expect significant overlap, especially when similar academic profile and geography - so I would expect quite an overlap between IPs and Emanuel, for instance. Even with different academic profile, there will be some overlap as a school will be a stretch for some but a fallback for others.

Number of applications seem to have got especially higher for coeds with those considered less popular or backups even more so as families are increasing the number of backups.

Good luck at SPGS today everyone!

QuiteAJourney · 04/01/2023 09:45

Good luck to all those sitting exams this week and next week! I know of SPGS, Alleyn's, Caterham, St John's and Epsom and I am sure there are others....quite a lot still going on (so many opportunities for DCs to get into a school that works for then).

secondaryquandries · 04/01/2023 10:55

Yes good luck to everyone with the exams and interviews this week!

Gumps · 04/01/2023 15:48

Hello to everyone on this thread. I've had a quick scan but I can't find the answer. Has anyone heard from LEH re interview? My DD has just returned from the St George's exam and said one of the girls told her she had been invited to interview. We haven't heard either way.

Taurus23 · 04/01/2023 17:12

We’ve not heard from LEH either. Not sure when we were meant to have heard by. All I can see on emails is early Jan.

tamu1234 · 04/01/2023 17:16

How did DCs find the SPGS written paper today? My DC found the English okay-ish, but Maths and second Comprehension very tough and she couldn't complete it. Overall though she had a good time at the school - it was very well organised despite the huge numbers!

Wondering what other DCs experiences were.

FriendlyMom · 04/01/2023 17:22

Did your dd manage to finish the English paper? The questions were apparently very long and many girls did not get to the last one, which was the CW part. Was the English paper meant to be finished?
