2022 GCSE Re-marks

Just a thread to discuss any 2022 GCSE re-mark successes (or not).

We will be requesting a remark for one RE paper (ethics). DS is marks away from a grade 7. DS received a high 8 for Re paper 1, grade 6 for paper 2 and a grade 4 for paper 3 (the one we are requesting a remark for).

Will also probably request a remark for English Language but won't know until we see the papers. DS is three marks away from a 7 on this.

I will update on the outcome of these when we hear back.

Good luck to everyone requesting re-marks. 🤞🤞🤞

Funnily enough Learner my school is having the whole DT class of moderated marks reviewed!
All the children were marked down, some significantly, by the moderator.

Aworldofmyown, that's interesting. Is the board also AQA? DD got 79% on the written paper (mid-high 8), but the moderation downgrade resulted in only a grade 6 for the project work.

I thought that in moderation revision, the whole cohort were revised down (or up) by the same percentage? Could be completely wrong though.

Best of luck for your school's moderation review 🤞🤞🤞.

Not necessarily. It depends on what the issues with the marking were.

Interesting. Thank you.

Edexcel geography came back really quickly this week but result was the same.

Learneratlife · 11/10/2022 11:39

Anyone still waiting for AQA English Language? I put in the request for a review of paper 1 nearly three weeks ago.

outnumbered77 · 11/10/2022 12:07

Yes we are. But only submitted 2 weeks ago.

mushroom3 · 11/10/2022 12:07

We are waiting on an AQA English Lit one, the school submitted it in a fortnight ago.

WombatChocolate · 11/10/2022 17:03

It can only be the last few that are due now. Given they seek to return within 20 days and the deadline for requests was 29th, there aren’t that many days left. However, there was probably a rush at the point of the deadline, so they probably do get a surge of applications at the end, as people know it’s now or never.

If it goes beyond 20 days, definitely contact the school/centre and they can check. Sometimes it is them who are slow sending on results, or an admin error might emerge, or if they are still waiting to hear, they can tell you. But not worth asking until you’re at that point, if you know the application for review was accepted.

onedeadyukka · 13/10/2022 16:30

Is it normal for school to apply for review without telling you?
We had a call from school today informing us that two subjects were on the boundary so they applied and they've both increased in final grade.

Obviously very happy for my teen but was really surprised.

Schools didn't supply marks with the results either. Just printed on headed paper a list of the grades

Learneratlife · 13/10/2022 16:39

I think that some schools get pupils to sign paperwork when they collect results (on results day) to say that they will allow the school to request reviews and that they are aware that this might result in grades going down. It's unusual for the school to pay though, I think. Is it a private school?

Considering that only about 20% of reviews result in a grade change, your DC has been very lucky.

WombatChocolate · 13/10/2022 16:40

No, not usual. In most cases, there is a risk of the mark dropping and parents have to accept the risk of this when putting in for review of marking.

Occasionally, a school ISAs able to have a full review - often when an NEA (coursework) is involved and there is a significant query over moderation of coursework. Sometimes the Board will let the school apply for a full review without risk of down grading. This is rare, but in this case, schools wouldn’t tell parents about it ahead of outcomes. The other time schools might not tell families is if multiple reviews have resulted in upgrading in a subject already, so the Board says they will oook at whole Centre marking without risk if downgrade. Again unusual.

The school should have provided the marks for the exams and not just grades. How else can you ever understand if you were close to the grade above? I’d query with them why you haven’t been told the marks and also why they had out in for review without your permission. Of course you can express delight at the higher grades, but these are very valid questions.

WombatChocolate · 13/10/2022 16:41

In our school, parents and students have to sign to acknowledge the risk of marks going down and grades going down, as well as to pay the fees involved. It could never just be based on a student signing as money is involved and schools don’t want to get accused of actions taken which parents were unaware of, in the event of a downgrade.

onedeadyukka · 13/10/2022 16:49

Interesting...

No not a private school.

He's gone to work now so will have to ask him more when I pick him up.

I asked if he knew about it and he said no, but when I commented it is all very odd is not being aware as he grades could have gone down he said 'no they told us they wouldn't'. So I wonder if they did mention something when he collected the grades and that's why they hadn't shared the marks as they were already planning a review as a whole?

I will have to grill him further. Totally normal to only receive half if not nought of a story from him!

Learneratlife · 13/10/2022 18:19

Still not received results of AQA English Language papers 1 and 2 reviews. Three weeks tomorrow....

Do you know when the school put it in?

Learneratlife · 13/10/2022 20:43

MrsHamlet, I assume straight after I requested it and paid. They said they would do it straightaway, but I guess there could have been a delay.

I'd check with the school. I'm very surprised you've not heard back.

Learneratlife · 14/10/2022 09:22

Got the result this morning. Needed three extra marks to achieve a 7 (was a long shot I know) and received two extra marks. So no change to grade. One mark off a 7. 😕

mushroom3 · 14/10/2022 11:20

sorry to hear this @Learneratlife we are still waiting, 2.5 weeks now so I guess we'll hear today or early next week

mushroom3 · 21/10/2022 15:24

took three weeks and no change

Thatladywithacat · 22/10/2022 12:13

Sorry to hear that. 😞
