2022 GCSE Re-marks

Slowlydoesit · 09/09/2022 08:33

Just a thread to discuss any 2022 GCSE re-mark successes (or not).

We will be requesting a remark for one RE paper (ethics). DS is marks away from a grade 7. DS received a high 8 for Re paper 1, grade 6 for paper 2 and a grade 4 for paper 3 (the one we are requesting a remark for).

Will also probably request a remark for English Language but won't know until we see the papers. DS is three marks away from a 7 on this.

I will update on the outcome of these when we hear back.

Good luck to everyone requesting re-marks. 🤞🤞🤞

Will they be able to find the paper?
I'm so, so upset.

MrsHamlet · 23/09/2022 20:50

That's very odd. You should (or at least the centre should) be able to see the paper pretty quickly.

They should have asked for priority scripts to see all papers before going any further. It looks like an error though.

NBP · 23/09/2022 21:10

Thank you, for all your answers.
I will let you know when I will have an outcome from them.

If anyone heard or met this kind of problem, please let me know. Thank you.

I haven’t experienced this but have of
course heard of exam boards losing papers occasionally. However, it doesn’t sound like your school exams officer is advising you very well. I don’t understand why they would have sent for a clerical recheck (and now. a marking review) without first downloading the copies of your dd’s papers. It is free for AQA and can be done in 5 minutes. That would prove whether the paper was lost or not, and if not, an English teacher could look over it very quickly , just to confirm that the answer exists and was not worth zero! You would have a much better idea of what had happened (ie whether lost, not marked or something else) and you would know how how to proceed.
I really hope you get it sorted quickly. So unfair to your daughter.

MrsHamlet · 24/09/2022 09:18

I agreed @dandlmum - the terminology suggests that the centre hasn't got to grips with what EAR looks like this year. A clerical check alone is an odd thing to ask for in English where the vast majority of papers are marked on screen.
Anyway, I do hope it's resolved quickly.

Can someone explain what the difference is between a service level 2 and service level 3 review of marking is please and why you would select one over the other?

MrsHamlet · 24/09/2022 11:04

I think those are old terms. This explains the current EAR processes: www.aqa.org.uk/exams-administration/after-results/post-results

Slowlydoesit · 24/09/2022 11:50

So we got the results of RE paper 2 and DS received 4 extra marks (we were only looking for 1 mark). He has been re-graded to a 7. Happy days.

@NBP it is not too late to receive an original copy of the script, the deadline is 29th September
If the exam board does not receive a copy of the script, then they will let the centre know. The zero mark could mean several things.
Hope you get it sorted out soon.

Can you help - ds got 6 in media - one mark off 7,

school day it’s £36 per paper for remark (or similar) so it’s be £75 approx. Is there a checking step before this which is free as they’ve not offered it? Only offered the paid revirw

he doesn’t need the 7 but would like it

not sure if it’s worth £75

Sorry this was for an Edexcel exam - it was the terms that board used in their letter back to me. I can rummage through their website.

Check what the exam board website says about Enquiries after results. AQA gives copies of all scripts free on request but I don't know what other boards are doing.
It's worth looking at the script before deciding.

Smellywellyhoo · 25/09/2022 13:54

The school actually contacted us to offer remarks for history & English lit- DS got a 7 and a 6 respectively. Going a grade up won't make much difference to anything but we thought we might as well have a go.

@DFOD

This explains it. Service 2 relates to exams and service 3 to NEA. As far as I can recall, review of moderation had to be for the whole cohort rather than individual candidates.

Ahh that makes sense. Thanks so much for finding and posting that for me - much appreciated.

MrsHamlet · 25/09/2022 14:41

No problem :)

NBP · 26/09/2022 16:13

I have some good news here. AQA forgot to mark that paper so the school has seen the script not marked and asked the AQA to mark it.
My daughter jumped from grade 7 to grade 9.
I am happy, but that should have never happened.
Thank you all for all the answers.

DFOD · 26/09/2022 16:16

That’s great news @NBP - delighted for you both - but as you say should never have happened.

NBP · 26/09/2022 16:17

Thank you

There are some real corkers on here. It makes you wonder who else has an unmarked paper, but because parents haven’t requested scripts back or fine for re-mark it’s gone unitised and the grade incorrect.

We know of someone who went up 16 marks on one paper which involved 8 different questions being regarded as they were all within the wrong marking band - sometimes out by 2 marking bands. It does make you lose some faith in the whole system.
