Thanks so much 🙂

Silkierabbit · 26/06/2022 13:58

Thanks so much Coffee Glad your two had some well deserved fun.

Thinking of you Salsa through this difficult time.

Good luck to those with exams on Monday, the end is near. I am still a bit in shock they are over but so relieved DD got through them all. Nothing too exciting happening here, Fri night was pet vaccines, Sat was one off cleaners in and today is just a Sunday roast and maybe the fudge shop where they make fudge by hand and then last chemo tomorrow. Only a week to go until Cornwall and so far forecast is sunny for everyday out. Taster day at 6th form on 5th here. FSMQ results out on 18th I think but DD thinks will get with others on 25th but will see, she seemed very confident anyway despite saying she started course 24 hours earlier on YouTube. 😂That gives me some hope for DS, maybe YouTube is the answer.

Stradbroke · 26/06/2022 18:11

You tube was a life saver here for my DS with adhd. So much revision done via it.

Silkierabbit · 26/06/2022 19:53

Thanks Stradbrooke

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 26/06/2022 20:08

Absolutely YouTube for revision. So many brilliant resources on there.
If DS manages to get better than his predicted grades in English it will be because of Mr Bruff and Mr Salles on YouTube!

All the best to those who still have exams remaining (History?) I'm still not quite believing they are all finished, it will seem more real tomorrow morning I am sure. Enjoy your summer everyone!

Rollergirl11 · 26/06/2022 20:45

Nice chilled work feee weekend here. Party on Friday night and then out for dinner last night with friends to celebrate exams being over. She went shopping for bikinis yesterday for our holiday in August.

DS not happy that he still has 4 weeks left at school and DD has finished. But he does have his school History Battlefields trip to France/Belgium to look forward to. It’s going to be strange for me having DD at home and DS going to school.

So DS had his prom Friday and then the after party into Saturday which he really enjoyed and some great photos. Last exam tomorrow afternoon- History and then he’s done. He did say he feels like he’s already finished as the majority of his year have done and he’s currently at a another party. Oh well he has tomorrow morning to revise!

Naem · 27/06/2022 11:59

So we are finally done too! DD texted to say written exam went well. Such a relief - although it does mean I now have to face up to the other issue in our family. I am flying tomorrow half way around the world. My mother has been under palliative care team since the beginning of December (tumour in the brain). I waited until DD's mocks were over, and flew and was there for seven weeks, during which time the hospice decided she wasn't "deteriorating fast enough" and so we brought her home, and I thought when I left in February it was unlikely I would see her again, but she has hung on, and DS went last Wednesday. I just felt I couldn't go in the middle of DD's GCSEs, and I have been trying not to think about it, but pleased that it feels like I made the right decision. I just need to get there now - I have bought an open ticket, although I probably do need to get back for GCSE results day - as there are high risks that she won't get the results she needs to do the subjects she wants at her school (she needs a 7 in Maths to go on to do Maths, and a 7 in Biology and one other science to go on to do Biology). So we may be either scrambling to look at other schools or other subjects.

legosunqueen · 27/06/2022 14:44

Finally over chez Lego too...what a marathon! History went well. DS now off to hang out with mates & party, hopefully not too hard as has sixth form taster morning at 8.30am tomorrow. Prom to follow on Thursday- we are hosting prinks just before, will be lovely seeing them all in their finery.

I've really appreciated the support on this thread & its predecessors - Mumsnet at its best! Hope you & your DCs have a well deserved lovely summer, especially those of you with horrific ongoing health challenges. Catch up in August 😀

legosunqueen · 27/06/2022 14:55

@Naem good that you can be with your mother, especially if you didn't expect to have this additional time together Flowers

Naem · 27/06/2022 15:36

Well, after all that DS just phoned to say that my mother has stopped breathing. So didn't quite make it, but will go for the funeral. It does feel like she waited until DD finished her exams though

QueenMabby · 27/06/2022 16:26

Ah @Naem. So sorry for your loss. That's so sad. Sending hugs.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 27/06/2022 17:00

Sorry for your loss @Naem

legosunqueen · 27/06/2022 17:10

@Naem really sorry for your loss, sending unmumsnetty hugs x

DFOD · 27/06/2022 17:56

@Naem - what a burden you have all been shouldering throughout. It does seem that she hung on for your DD. I hope that you all find some peace at this difficult time.

StColumbofNavron · 27/06/2022 18:53

@Naem so sorry to hear this.

Lightsabre · 27/06/2022 18:57

Really sorry to hear about your mum @Naem 💐

Naem · 27/06/2022 19:16

Thanks all. I am just so glad we sent DS. He came back from his gap year, and we talked about him coming with me, but decided that he wasn't waiting for GCSEs to finish, so he went on Wednesday and he arrived early Friday morning their time. We have a wonderful picture of her smiling with him there on Friday - and he has been a brick by the sounds of things to my father and brother. Quite a lot on the shoulders of a 19 year old though, I guess I somehow thought that if she had held on that long, she would until I got there. I did keep wondering whether I should have tried to go after physics, when everybody else finished, but thought I should be there for her final exam. I think that was right, and at least she didn't have to deal with this during the exams - but given the time difference, DM will have died literally hours after DD finished. Been not talking about it much during the whole period, because the less real it seemed to DD, the better I thought, even though she had to do without me for seven weeks in the middle and she knew, we all knew, in December they didn't expect her to last more than a couple of months.

Silkierabbit · 27/06/2022 19:20

So sorry for your loss Naem I think you did the right thing staying with your DD for her final exam but must be so difficult. Sending love.

StColumbofNavron · 27/06/2022 20:09

@Naem don't second guess yourself. You made the decision that felt right and I am sure DD appreciates you being here. Easier said I know whilst you are going through all the roller-coaster emotions.

PaddingtonPaddington · 27/06/2022 21:07

Sorry for your loss @Naem. Lovely that your DS managed to visit and you were there to support your DD when she needed you.

DS has finally finished. Bit of anticlimax as he’s already had school leavers day and prom but good for him (and me) to have a break from it all. It definitely has been a marathon.

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 28/06/2022 07:39

@Naem so very sorry for your loss. Hugs coming to you from us too.

Rollergirl11 · 28/06/2022 08:03

@Naem so sorry for your loss and what a tough decision you had to make. This parenting stuff doesn’t get any easier does it? Thinking of you.

@Naem so sorry for your loss, sounds like you made the best decision you could in difficult circumstances. Flowers

We have the year 11 presentation assembly this morning, followed by prom tonight! Then that's it, school is officially done and dusted!

StColumbofNavron · 30/06/2022 15:21

We have our presentation evening tonight. DS1 is unbothered. I feel sure I will cry.
