Good luck everyone 😊 really feels like the end is in sight now

Silkierabbit · 15/06/2022 07:47

Dd has just gone off for biology. Good luck everyone for today.

LizzyButtons · 15/06/2022 07:48

Good luck to everyone's dc this morning. And thank you to other members for your kind words of support. It means a lot. Helped ds with going over some last minute biology with a check list yesterday evening. He's looking really tired now so will be glad to see the end of these now. He thought geography went ok yesterday. Still a bit of a mountain ahead with History and Physics. Almost there. Best wishes all.

Rollergirl11 · 15/06/2022 08:02

Good luck all for Biology!

DD has real exam fatigue now. Still has History tomorrow, Spanish on Friday and then Chemistry and Physics next week. Out if those it’s only History she wants to go forward with. She’s struggling to care about the others now. At least now the amount of revision gets less and less with each subject ticked off.

Good luck today everyone 🤞

DFOD · 15/06/2022 08:10

Better morning today. Tired but resigned. Quite a long exam 1:45 for Biology but then only Spanish on Fri which she doesn’t really care about so that gets us to the weekend with only chemistry and physics next week.

Its a weird dynamic at this point - exhausted and bored - loads of time between the last exams but hard to find the motivation to revise at intensity and momentum to get through to next week.

6 week stretch of exams is too much.

LouisCatorze · 15/06/2022 08:40

There's an interesting article in The Times today about a proposed reform of secondary school education. Reducing the number of exams at 16 (basically to a modern equivalent of the 'School Certificate' that many of our grandparents/parents sat), and doing a British version of the Baccalaureate in the sixth form. A great idea. I hope it doesn't take years to implement though.

Six weeks of exams is education purgatory. It's gruelling. They all deserve a special medal for getting through the past two years and these last six weeks.

Spoke to DD who said Geography was fine, a little pushed for time but all good.

DS said the same about Geography. He had about 5 minutes spare. Apparently all of his friends said the same thing. He thought it was pretty easy, but he had loads to write.

Biology this morning, then French tomorrow afternoon. He seemed pretty tired this morning,, so he'll be glad to have a bit of a break this afternoon and a lie in tomorrow morning! (With time for revision of course!!!)

He's been continuing with his swim training throughout the exams and has a competition this weekend. He's only racing on Saturday so that he can revise on Sunday. He's counting down the days to the final exam next Thursday, then is flying to his first International Meet on Friday with his swim team, So at least he's had something to look forward to throughout all of this!

Stormchaser1502 · 15/06/2022 09:29

Gone off to Biology this morning a tad stressy. I think the science paper 1’s were daunting enough to throw her into a frenzy.
I really hope Biology is kind today

Akite · 15/06/2022 10:13

Stressed here this morning too, DD wants to do Bio A level so this is an important one but she's worried about all the shambles so far with wrong advance information.
And she stayed in the sun too long yesterday afternoon so is very burnt and sore 🤦🏻‍♀️
feels like the end is in sight though, DT this afternoon as well then just 4 more to go.

CornishGem1975 · 15/06/2022 11:08

DD said biology was okay, she answered everything apart from not finishing a question about Latin names for polar bears Confused

LouisCatorze · 15/06/2022 11:21

Was that AQA @CornishGem1975 ? DD found it difficult.

CornishGem1975 · 15/06/2022 11:29

Yes @LouisCatorze AQA Combined Higher.

MirandaWest · 15/06/2022 11:58

DD back from AQA not combined Higher (must have an actual name 😂). Seemed like the questions were a bit odd but hopefully OK).

biology all done now and no exams tomorrow 😂

This also means DD and I can watch Sewing Bee when it’s on rather than at some other point as she’ll still be up rather than going to bed at about 9:30 as she’s been doing recently

Silkierabbit · 15/06/2022 11:59

DD did AQA single science higher biology and said everyone was complaining about it and it not reflecting advanced info but she said it was borderline as to whether it did or not (something about minor / major focus) and it was a difficult paper but doable for her. Though I think now for science not to put too much trust in advanced info. but poor kids.

Stats she found easy but she normally always get 100% in stats.

7 to go here French writing and history tomorrow, history is fine but French writing will be harder. Then a break until Monday. Phew. 5 next week including the level 3 FSMQ. 11th chemo on Monday and 12th and final Monday after and at least DSs school is closed for 12th. 11th one have got moved back later so does not clash with DDs GCSEs so Mr Floof is not home alone with rabbit.

StoneMap · 15/06/2022 12:19

DS came back AQA Biology Higher, angry and deflated. Lots of questions and big marks were on ecology. Ecology was not listed as major focus, so was considered as low focus. I think DS is exaggerating, but he seems to think nearly half the paper was about ecology and ecology-related subjects. He revised low focus topics as well (but not in depth), but wasn't prepared for a single topic to dominate a paper!

legosnowqueen · 15/06/2022 12:48

DS found AQA separate science Biology H surprisingly ok...did say something about major & minor lists but didn't seem fazed by it.

Challenging day tomorrow - French is his weakest subject while he hopes to do History at A level but tomorrow's topic is his least favourite. Sense he is wilting - tired & it's warming up...

@Silkierabbit your animal management issues remind me of our attempts to make sure someone is here to keep our pampered lockdown puppy company 😂 ps I think we are ready for another photo of Mr Floof!

PugInTheHouse · 15/06/2022 12:53

DS said AQA combined biology higher wasn't great. Not much of the main focus stuff and lots of higher mark questions. He said he did OK in what he did answer but everyone complaining about it.

So disappointing the exam boards have made such a mess of the advance info, would have been better to not have bothered. It's caused so much confusion.

Only Spanish writing then last 2 science papers so about 3.5 hrs of exams left which seems surreal.

Fizbosshoes · 15/06/2022 12:54

DD seems surprisingly upbeat about biology (oCR) buy said she had finished in an hour, which I find slightly concerning (it was 1 hr 45) she says maths and science always give you way longer than you need and English/ essay ones have barely enough time. Not sure how true that is, but not much I can do about it. That's another subject ticked off.
Graphics this afternoon - longest exam.

QueenMabby · 15/06/2022 12:58

@legosnowqueen - single science aqa biology higher here too. DS also upbeat. I'm at work so don't have details but he said it "went very well over all" which I'm taking as a positive.

Just Spanish writing left this week. It's his most hated subject so we'll be glad to get shot of it.

CornishGem1975 · 15/06/2022 13:23

@Fizbosshoes My DD said she's finished most exams with 30 mins to go but she's gone back over the paper in that time. Apart from English where she almost ran out of time

Dixiechickonhols · 15/06/2022 13:33

MirandaWest my dd did AQA single biology hr and said questions were a bit oddly worded but she was happy enough overall didn’t feel advanced notice was misleading. it’s her best science of the 3.
History tomorrow but really short exam, Spanish Friday. End in sight.

PaddingtonPaddington · 15/06/2022 13:47

DS back from OCR biology higher and said it was ‘fine’. No more biology for him, he thought about A level but was put off by having to do biology essay questions! That’s it for exams this week. 4 exams left, 3 next week and one left on the afternoon of the 27th. The end is definitely in sight.

pinkroseapp · 15/06/2022 14:02

igcse Biology here, ds said it was harder than paper 1 but he thinks he did solid.

mushroom3 · 15/06/2022 14:03

DS found the Biology terrible, his worst exam so far, he got a 9 in his mocks,it was Edexcel
