Hello,

as mentioned countless times, I found the previous years' threads very useful, so it is now time to start this year's.

DS sat the 11+ reasoning test at DC yesterday. He'll sit the morning slot at trinity and we are awaiting confirmation of assessment date from Whitgift.

DS is remarkably relaxed so far. I, on the other hand, am a little apprehensive about the next few weeks.

How are everyone else's DSs feeling before "the storm"?

My son went through this a few years ago for 11+

Hope this helps

Re call backs hold your nerve my sons time line was varied and he was offered a scholarship at all three schools.

Re the interview, they boys just need to be themselves. Dulwich asked more current affairs. Trinity more about the person, interests etc, I also know if there is an aspect of the exam that is weaker they may ask questions around that. Whitgift academic scholarship back then was a day where the boys did all sorts of things around learning.

Although they are all wonderful schools Remember these schools will be very lucky to have your boys . Good luck

I have a question. Why do they (W) ask academic questions in the interview?

KillingEvenings · 15/01/2022 13:19

@Yey22 was there a second interview for academic scholarship at DC?

Yey22 · 15/01/2022 13:27

This was a few years ago

Dulwich - one interview post exam not a separate one academic scholarship - we had interview/meeting the same day

Whitgift - academic scholarship day with interactive lessons - we have interview/ meeting the same day

Trinity - one interview post exam - we have interview/meeting same time

KillingEvenings · 15/01/2022 14:06

Thanks!

Gladwhenitsover · 16/01/2022 10:01

We had the interview for W yesterday and it was a completely different experience than we were expecting. The person interviewing couldn’t have been more lovely and it was more a “chat” about interests than an interview. No academic questions at all and with us it felt like their main priority was that we left with a good impression of the school rather than the other way around. Our son did well enough in the exams but is not the absolute top (no academic scholarship) so I imagine this is not a unique experience. All the people we met were very engaging and down to earth. Good luck with everyone else going through it!

Saragood · 16/01/2022 10:39

Gladwhenitsover, we had our interview yesterday too. Our interview went more like you’re described it too. how did you know that there might be no academic scholarship?

JustTryingouthere · 16/01/2022 10:40

Did anyone get an online interview with W for 11+

Saragood · 16/01/2022 10:43

Apologies for the typo

suchnonsense · 16/01/2022 10:51

@Gladwhenitsover and @Saragood - thanks so much for that info. We have ours next weekend, and this has definitely calmed the nerves a little. Best of luck to your sons!

Gladwhenitsover · 16/01/2022 11:50

@Saragood I guess I don’t, just assumed as I thought there might be a separate session / invitation based on some of the other comments posted but perhaps I was wrong. Even so, they mentioned roughly where he scored (top x hundred) and I would think he would have to have been higher to qualify but could be wrong!

suchnonsense · 16/01/2022 12:13

Does anyone have a rough idea of numbers (total applications vs number interviewed vs number of offers)? For W 11+.

Saragood · 16/01/2022 12:15

@gladwhenitsover. Thanks ,I wish I asked or they told me where my son scored😟 it would have at least given me a little idea as what chance he may have. It’s going to be a long and painful wait. Best of luck for the results and hope you get the news, you get the result you want!

Gladwhenitsover · 16/01/2022 12:27

@suchnonsense when we did the open day we spoke to one of the admission people and they said they do 400 for 150 places. Yesterday we were told there were roughly 700 who sat the test. So what I don’t know is whether the 400 is interviews or offers (she seemed to imply it was offers as they take into account people may have multiple options (lucky!) but it seems so much more than other schools it feels unlikely

sunshineclouds24 · 16/01/2022 12:37

@Gladwhenitsover , 3 offers for every place sounds about right for a school with good transport links hence dc sitting a range of schools across Surrey/ London so receiving many offers.

silver12 · 16/01/2022 16:22

Did anyone have T interview? Our interview is next week.
Silly Question: Do parents go to the Interview with ds in a sane room?

silver12 · 16/01/2022 16:23

Sorry same room

Yey22 · 16/01/2022 20:01

This was a few years back but for my sons trinity interview, my son went in without us, think that is generally the case for most schools. We had a meeting with the head at the same time as my son was having his interview.

Mummy195 · 16/01/2022 20:10

A few years back we did both T and W interviews.
For W we had different teachers (another time the HM) do the interview. One did ask one or two academic questions, another did not, it was just an informal chat. On all occasions, the call in the parents right after they see the DC.

For T, the DC brought in an object to discuss. The questions were about the DC and seemed to test their imagination (think like what would you do if you were PM kind of questions. Most were random according to what DC said they like etc.).
The parents were not called in. On both occasions, the Head went to the waiting room and had an informal chat (not sure if he knew exactly which parent belonged to which DC).

silver12 · 16/01/2022 20:13

Thanks Yey22 and Mummy195!

KillingEvenings · 17/01/2022 10:34

Saragood and Gladwhenitsover for W11+ they have a special academic scholarship workshop morning so unlike the others, W makes it clear if you are being considered for academic scholarship

Re T11+ interviews, we now have a date for a nonacademic scholarship assessment, but have not heard back about the actual interview - anyone else in this place?

mylyn1024 · 17/01/2022 10:37

Does anyone know how many people are being offered an interview?

And what is taken into account when it comes to being offered a place? Is it purely the interview and exam score? Just wondering how they decide.

mylyn1024 · 17/01/2022 10:38

Oh this is for W

KillingEvenings · 17/01/2022 10:43

When DS1 interviewed with W, I remember the person who spoke with me and DH commenting on DS1's school report so they do look at that too

SamanaMinx · 17/01/2022 10:52

Regarding T 10+, does anyone know how % of scholarship are awarded as part of academics? Is it solely based on exam or interview or both? Do we get a hint during the HM interview?
