Hello,

as mentioned countless times, I found the previous years' threads very useful, so it is now time to start this year's.

DS sat the 11+ reasoning test at DC yesterday. He'll sit the morning slot at trinity and we are awaiting confirmation of assessment date from Whitgift.

DS is remarkably relaxed so far. I, on the other hand, am a little apprehensive about the next few weeks.

How are everyone else's DSs feeling before "the storm"?

They wont ask your DS which is their favourite school - although a hint to that effect from the parents will go down well.

Perhaps the best response is what he likes about the school.

One other point, dont coach your DS too much. The only school that didnt offer my DS a scholarship was the one I talked at him too much in advance of the interview. I totally overstressed him before he went in.

@MrsHGWells and @Walkingtheplank thank you sooooooo much for the advices, that really make sense! Grin

We had our online 11+ interview at W this week, to be honest it was challenging and we have no clue really how it went as they didn’t give anything away. I guess now the chances are good as the numbers are less. I was told in the interview 700 applied across 11+ and 10+ I would think 500 would be 11+. Thoughts on how many get an interview? I think more than half so 300 interviews for 120 places but as we know they need to over offer, T I think double offers, so W would be the same if not more. Anyway that could be 240 offers from 300 interviews. Anyone think this is accurate or am I missing something??

Hopefu76 · 19/01/2022 11:49

Hi @w1980 challenging in what way - if you don’t mind me asking? Yes I think double the offers for the places sounds about right. Fingers crossed we have ours this week.

@Saragood

Gladwhenitsover, we had our interview yesterday too. Our interview went more like you’re described it too. how did you know that there might be no academic scholarship?
Whitgift has two kind if interviews.For those selected for the academic scholarshi interview, the school organises an 'enrichment' day where the boys attend lessons and activities.

@KillingEvenings

From my past experience, I know W has a special scholarship interview workshop, so if you are invited to that you know you are in the running

Dulwich don't give an indication before offer day. Potential scholars are interviewed (seemingly) with everyone else.

From what I gather
T maybe interviews potential scholars during the week and parents may meet individually with the HM.
Folks not being considered for academic scholarships may be invited on Saturday and there is no 1-to-1 with the head, just a general talk with a dozen or so parents in the room.

I don't know this to be true, but I think I've remembered reading it and Rockalock's experience is not the same we had with DS1 who was offered a place but not scholarship place. Would love to hear if anyone else can tell me I'm wrong though as DS2 has an interview Saturday [grin[

My son was claled for the academic scholarship at T and W T was a one to one chat during the week on a school day and parents hd a private chat with the HM. W was a morning of actvities and lessons, not a proper interviw. DC was a normal interview with two teachers an no real academic questions were asked , more about hobbies, describing a picture etc
JJS1612 · 20/01/2022 10:33

@SamanaMinx just wondering how did it go with the interview yesterday? Hope it was a success for you. We are still waiting for this Saturday one.

SamanaMinx · 21/01/2022 07:31

@JJS1612: It was good; we'll know only on 11th Feb if it is success or not but he is definitely in the run for a place and/or scholarship. His English and VR scores were really good and Maths was good. There were very few kids around the same time my DS had interview.

On arrival, it was a warm welcome by the admissions team. HM spoke to my DH and my son was called for the interview. DS interview went on for a good 25-30 mins. DS had a general interview with good questions on critical thinking and had couple verbal comprehension questions. Based on his narrative, I found it was challenging for a 10 yr old but DS was ok with the conversation/interview.

Also, I found the previous suggestions on not over-preparing helpful. I just told my DS to be himself and have a calm, collected discussion.

Fingers crossed, it's all a waiting game now !!!

Good luck to you and DS Smile .

JJS1612 · 21/01/2022 07:52

@SamanaMinx, sounds like they do tell you how your son scored in the exam? Well done and congratulations, thank you 😊

fedem · 21/01/2022 09:36

Exacty the same experience we had. My son was asked a few very hard ( according to him) logic puzzles but the rest of the interview flew by with various discussion. Nothing he could have really prepared for. Maths and VR very high, English a bit less but was expected.
Now we are just waiting! Good luck everyone!

Saragood · 21/01/2022 15:23

@inthejunglegeorgeandbungle: That's very helpful information. Just wondering how many percent did your DS1 & DS2 get for their academic and co-curricular scholarships at T? Thanks in advance.

@Saragood is it for W or T?

mylyn1024 · 21/01/2022 22:03

@Saragood I would say that if you're at interview stage then its all heading in the right direction but at the end of the day you just don't know till offer day.

silver12 · 21/01/2022 22:47

@Saragood is it for T or W? I thought that you have to fill the bursary application before the entry exam.

Saragood · 22/01/2022 08:13

silver12 It’s T ,I did fill a short application at the start, Just to register my interest . Now they sent financial statements from and asked for lots of documents.

aamamh · 22/01/2022 09:13

@Saragood did they ask any documents at W?

Saragood · 22/01/2022 09:30

Sorry for the confusion, it’s not the school that asked for the documents, it’s John Whitgift Foundation. For w they emailed too saying DS is short listed but I don’t need to send documents again since I sent everything when the contacted for T .
