Just continuing on from thread one. Let's support each other through these difficult times. Here is the earlier thread. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/3653238-Starting-Year-11-GCSE2021-title-edited-by-MNHQ

Do your children have a second set of mocks happening. Apparent;y not going to happen in our school. If exams get cancelled how will they know what the students can do?

DDs school haven't had their first (and only) mocks yet.
Due next week. She's been revising every single day since the autumn as she always knew they would be so important.
If they don't happen, and it's looking likely, she will be devastated, angry and majorly disadvantaged to those who have mock results from last year.

TeenPlusTwenties · 04/01/2021 15:34

Placemarking. DD isn't in school (anxiety), isn't doing independent work (low confidence), and is now to be entered for 4 GCSEs only (but this would be enough for college). On the plus side since being on antidepressants her mood and motivation are slowly improving and we are finally starting up work.

Placemarking

Thanks for the new thread.

DS had mocks in November and has them again next month.

ihearttc · 04/01/2021 16:35

DS1’s school haven’t even had 1 set of mocks yet, they will literally have no data to go on.

UncomfortableSilence · 04/01/2021 16:36

Found you Smile

DD has had a break from revising over Christmas, no mock results yet, they were due to get them in school next week but doesn't look like that's happening now, she is not happy this week though, she seems angry and disillusioned and I really can't blame her. These poor kids what a year they are having.

@TeenPlusTwenties I'm glad that her mood is improving. It's such a hard time and I think a lot must be having m/h issues. @catmandont We're fortunate that DS's school had the foresight and the staff to do the mocks in the autumn term. This year more than ever is not going to be a level playing field. We've been lucky that his (state) school have responded so well to this compared to some.

@finisterreforever

DS’s school have handled it brilliantly on the whole. They set the mocks for after Christmas to give them the most amount of learning time available beforehand which would have worked brilliantly if it hadn’t all kicked off again.
I honestly don’t know what they are going to do. How can they possibly give CAGs without any data to go on?

Vickles20 · 04/01/2021 17:33

They were meant to start today. But the whole year is at home for a week. Then are due to all have covid tests on Thursday. Then meant to be doing mocks next week. But who knows...

This is my concern, missed half of Y10, DD was isolating more than she was in last term, looks like they won't be going back before February possibly depending on what's announced tonight, what on earth are they going to base their grades on?

Randomrebel · 04/01/2021 17:47

DD had her first set off mocks in December. The teachers had already decided the second set if mocks which usually take place end of Jan/beginning of Feb wouldn’t take place for this years year 11 group!!!

In all her mock exam rooms as per her usual class rooms the windows were flung open all day and the DC are only allowed to wear a jumper no coats etc. She is dyslexic so was allowed 25% extra time but was also beside herself with the cold and is stroppy so didn’t want to stay beyond the school day so she missed out on her extra time. For one of her mocks the invigilators had a Christmas meal with the teachers!!! Whilst DD and others stood in the cold and rain northern england for 20 minutes waiting to get into a building outside the school in nothing more than a jumper!!!

I fear the worst in terms of mock results.

hellypad · 04/01/2021 18:12

DD had mocks in November then most of the year had to isolate so not sure if anyone managed to take them all, DD just needs to take History. They are supposed to be having another set in Feb but who knows now.

Toobuktim · 04/01/2021 19:07

Thanks @indy69 for the new thread, mocks done, partial results though. Everything is so up in the air, am dreading 8pm and Boris

Stormer · 04/01/2021 19:39

Mocks done in Nov here. They planned on giving them the results next week in person but will change that if they’re not in. Which we’ll find out shortly once Boris does his great announcement..

ineedaholidaynow · 04/01/2021 19:55

DS had mocks Part 1 I November and was planning to have the second set in February

ineedaholidaynow · 04/01/2021 20:08

What is going to happen now?

Hoppinggreen · 04/01/2021 20:10

Sounds like GCSEs won’t happen
What are they supposed to do ?

averythinline · 04/01/2021 20:13

DS mocks due to start 18jan...basic tests in Nov where he completely ballsed up his 2 subjects he wants to do for a level....he has been working really hard...so gutted tonight..

finisterreforever · 04/01/2021 20:20

@Hoppinggreen

Sounds like GCSEs won’t happen What are they supposed to do ?
Eagle eyed DS spotted that he only said it wasn't fair for all exams to take place this summer so which ones will be cancelled and which won't

DS has gone to his room and is visibly upset/angry and won't talk to me. His only word was about the PM being a c* and for once I didn't object to his choice of wording.

finisterreforever · 04/01/2021 20:22

No end of year exams ?

GCSEs cancelled. Crap Sad

Thethingswedoforlove · 04/01/2021 20:34

I think he said unfair for them to go ahead in their current form. There may yet be some form of end of year exams.....

Inastatus · 04/01/2021 20:39

I’m so upset and worried tonight. It’s going to be so hard to keep DD motivated in the light of exam cancellations.

ihearttc · 04/01/2021 20:53

It’s all over the news, exams cancelled so unless they haven completely got the wrong end of the stick there isn’t any exams full stop.
