Secondary offers day 2020

Anybody else anxiously awaiting offers day for England secondaries on Monday? Obviously nothing I can do about our choices at this point, and yes it will probably all turn out fine, but I'm suddenly doubting everything and driving myself mad worrying about it!

Ah, that's fucking bad luck @corpsebrid3. Sorry. People say though there is a lot of change and kids move up the waiting lists in the next few months. Get on all the waiting lists and something else will surely come up Flowers

wlv12 · 02/03/2020 05:34

We got offered our second choice.

I’m actually happy/relieved in some ways, just wondering what my son will say when he wakes up! He must have been more anxious than I thought as he couldn’t sleep last night.

wlv12 · 02/03/2020 05:36

Sorry @corpsebrid3 - you must be in a state of disbelief. From previous years it seems there’s scope for plenty of change, the LA has a duty to educate him.

ShriekingBansheela · 02/03/2020 05:39

Corpsebrid that is really upsetting. We’re your 3 preferences realistic / you should have been in with a chance?

Make sure you are on the waiting lists for all the schools you listed. Also you can now apply to go on waiting lists for any other schools.

And watch the advice that will appear on this board about appeals.

The LA, by law, has to find you a school place.

UnicornPug · 02/03/2020 06:16

First choice here. More a formality than anything but so good to have it confirmed!

Theonewiththecat · 02/03/2020 06:45

I woke up at 11.55 and waited to check the website.
Dd got offered her first choice.

confusedofengland · 02/03/2020 06:54

Gutted Sad We got offered 5th place school. Honestly thought we might be in with a chance of 1st choice after talking to them over the phone.

Main saving grace is that really it is not our catchment school, which is dire.

Don't know what to do now. We can't see waiting list place until 18th March, but have to refuse place by 16th March if we're going to do that. Appeals have to be lodged within 20 school days. Thinking of ringing choice 1 school later to see what they say.

UselessTrees · 02/03/2020 07:00

You don't need to refuse the place in order to go on waiting lists or to appeal! Accept it, then take things from there.

OP posts:
confusedofengland · 02/03/2020 07:01

Sorry, meant we have to refuse by then if we're going to refuse.

SJaneS48 · 02/03/2020 07:07

If you refuse the place @confusedofengland, there is the potential you may end up with nothing! If you accept you can take up a subsequent offer elsewhere, there’s no contract written in blood 🙂! Good luck

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 02/03/2020 07:10

Still waiting for DS1s offer. (lancs)
He's nervous. He's desperate for his first choice, he really liked it.
Fingers crossed.

confusedofengland · 02/03/2020 07:15

Sjane thanks, that's what I thought. But don't know what to do now! Should I ring choice 1?

Roselilly36 · 02/03/2020 07:19

Good luck everyone.

Moctodtensmum · 02/03/2020 07:23

We are in London and have not yet received an email. Is that normal? Should I panic?

roseelizabeth · 02/03/2020 07:23

Ours were released at 00:01 on Sunday. It would have driven me nuts waiting for Monday! Good luck everyone, we were allocated our first choice.

myrtleWilson · 02/03/2020 07:27

@Moctodtensmum London tend to release later - quite often at 5pm so don't panic yet!

SJaneS48 · 02/03/2020 07:28

@confusedofengland, in Kent last year we received a waiting list form which you used to apply to be on waiting lists. This had to go back within about 2 weeks of offer. Re the offered place, as I’m sure you know, you have to accept that directly with the school. I don’t think it’s going to hurt though to call your preferred schools admissions team and ask them how much movement there was on the waiting list last year, how quickly it moved and how far out they ended up going out (geographically)on 2/3rd round offers. That’ll give you some idea of your realistic chance!

Oblomov20 · 02/03/2020 07:29

Why don't the uk have one day where all counties get the result? Angry

Ours don't even release email till the evening of tonight!

Congratulations to those that have got what they want.

LoudBatPerson · 02/03/2020 07:31

Don't worry. For London they release from 5pm for people who used e-admissions.

Quite often the emails take forever to come through but if you login around then you should be able to see it on the portal.

MrsBungle · 02/03/2020 07:36

We got our first choice (and catchment school). We moved here to be pretty sure of a place after both my dc didn’t get their first choice primary (and put in different schools which was a nightmare). It’s nice not to be upset and panicked for the first time on offer day. Sorry to those of you who didn’t get what you want, I know how horrible that is.

prettythepig · 02/03/2020 07:46

Has anybody heard in the Sandwell area yet? I haven't yet.

WingDefence · 02/03/2020 07:46

@HerRoyalCarbyLess no email here either. My friends last year got her email at 8:30ish.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 02/03/2020 08:13

Just had email. Second choice. DS1 is gutted. I've told him before he gets upset, see how many of his friends are going to the same school as he might be surprised.

shalligoagain · 02/03/2020 08:19

Good luck to all those having to appeal. We were very lucky and got our first choice grammar school.

WingDefence · 02/03/2020 08:43

Sorry to hear that @HerRoyalCarbyLess :( Still not news here.
