Anybody else anxiously awaiting offers day for England secondaries on Monday? Obviously nothing I can do about our choices at this point, and yes it will probably all turn out fine, but I'm suddenly doubting everything and driving myself mad worrying about it!

OP posts:
HerRoyalCarbyLess · 02/03/2020 08:44

Fingers crossed you'll find out soon @WingDefence

WingDefence · 02/03/2020 08:48

Thanks @HerRoyalCarbyLess. If you're really unhappy, you can still put your DS on the waiting list/appeal and see if you get the first choice school that way. Accept the place you've been given though in the meantime. Flowers

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 02/03/2020 08:50

I'm sure he'll be ok when he sees how .any of his friends will be going there. It's first choice for a lot of parents, he just preferred a different school.

Mum2Girls19 · 02/03/2020 08:54

Spent most the night awake fretting but we were lucky we got our 1st choice school that is slightly out of catchment....
DD very pleased xxxx

TheGreatWave · 02/03/2020 08:56

Why don't the uk have one day where all counties get the result?

England and Wales do, it has just not been as straight forward this year as the 1st was a Sunday, so some released yesterday, some today. London has always been late in the day.

CodenameVillanelle · 02/03/2020 08:56

No email yet - West Sussex. I'm anxious because I didn't put catchment school down and we have a good chance at 1st choice but not guaranteed. He won't be happy with second as none of his friends have put it down. I really don't want catchment school.
Nobody has posted on Facebook yet so I'm assuming emails haven't gone out but that isn't stopping me worrying that I didn't submit the application properly!

ShriekingBansheela · 02/03/2020 08:57

@davisson Yes you can go on waiting lists for schools you put lower down your list than the offered school. But you won’t be put on them automatically, you will need to ask.

Crabonastick · 02/03/2020 09:04

Does the email say the school you’ve been offered or do you have to log in? No email here yet but In London

Pyjamaface · 02/03/2020 09:07

No email yet in Norfolk, the website says 9am but that didn't stop me waking up 3 times last night to check!
I kinda feel sick

SuperFurryDoggy · 02/03/2020 09:15

@Pyjamaface try logging into the portal and clicking on your DC’s application. DS’s was up when I checked half an hour ago.

DS got his first choice which was a surprise to be honest as it’s out of catchment and rumour was that it was going to be over subscribed this year. I’m still a bit wobbly as none of his friends are going there, but he’s over the moon.

We are very lucky, not just that he got the school he wanted, but that we are in an area where none of the schools on his list were bad schools.

SedentaryCat · 02/03/2020 09:21

DS got his first choice, which isn't the first choice of most of his class.

They all had letters from the school (DSs second choice) on Saturday welcoming them to the school. I guessed DS was going to his first choice because we didn't get a letter Smile . Confirmed via email sent at 5.53 this morning.

Good luck to everyone still waiting.

Longwhiskers14 · 02/03/2020 09:33

Why do we have to wait until 5pm in London??? So frustrating.

prh47bridge · 02/03/2020 09:35

I can't speak for the other admissions experts but I will try to keep an eye on this thread and offer advice on appeals, etc. if requested. However, to be certain of getting attention from the experts anyone wanting advice should start their own thread with a title that makes it clear that it is about a possible appeal.

Pyjamaface · 02/03/2020 09:43

@SuperFurryDoggy It finally went up at 20 past 9 on the portal Grin

This is the point I admit we only put down one school as the local school is beyond awful and the others require 2 buses that DS with ADHD would not manage. Thankfully he got our choice

AmbitiousHalibut · 02/03/2020 09:43

Waiting here too. Eeek.

SuperFurryDoggy · 02/03/2020 09:49

I’m so pleased for you @Pyjamaface

I still haven’t received the offer email, but have got the the email confirming our acceptance of DS’s place Hmm

WingDefence · 02/03/2020 09:56

Phew, just got our Lancashire CC email and DS got the school he wanted. Relief all round.

Pyjamaface · 02/03/2020 09:58

Same here @SuperFurryDoggy, accepted the place and got the email for that straight away Hmm

lanthanum · 02/03/2020 10:03

Why do we have to wait until 5pm in London??? So frustrating.

I can see advantages - no dilemma about whether to tell child just before they go to school, time to digest news before school the next morning, and before starting taking any action if you are disappointed.

For those who missed out, there will be some movement - in particular, many of those who will go private will have applied for a state place "in case", and will now be turning it down.

listsandbudgets · 02/03/2020 10:04

When we applied state schools were our back up as dd had tried for some selective independents but we knew we wouldn't get the results on those until after application deadline.

She got into independents and also offered 2nd choice state, which we rejected within hours, so that's another reason waiting lists may shift

We felt selfish, but did want a situation where none of the selective took her and no state offer.

Good luck everyone, I hope you get the places you hope for

listsandbudgets · 02/03/2020 10:05

X posted with lanathum but it proves her point!

CodenameVillanelle · 02/03/2020 10:29

Phew, got our first choice!
Good luck to those waiting

WhenDoISleep · 02/03/2020 10:37

It's a long wait until 5pm for us and I have to be somewhere dropping a younger child off at an activity then, so prolonging the wait for us unfortunately.

Congratulations to all those who have got their preferred choice of school.

turquoise50 · 02/03/2020 10:41

Got offer at second choice school (local comp, all DS friends going there but not great reputation) with 'Waiting list' for our first choice, a fantastic school which we are out of catchment for (out of local authority, even, although it's near) so we knew we were chancing it! We also have a pre-existing offer for an independent school which DS likes but it would mean a move much further away, which he's not happy about at all, and we're not sure what to do for the best.

What do we do about this waiting list place at state school no.1? I'm not sure I understand what the status of the waiting list is. Do I have to respond to the school to say yes please, keep us on the list, and find out when the cut-off date is? I'd almost rather we'd got a firm 'No' from them because then we'd have known where we stood and it would have been a straight choice between state school no.2 and moving away for the private school. But now it's like they're dangling hope in front of us!

If we were to move into catchment between now and the summer, does this bump us up the waiting list? Or will they take as dim a view of that as they do of moving just before you apply? (To be clear, I'm looking for a job - been SAH mum up until now - so could try to get a job in the nearby town where the good state school is, meaning I would have a bona fide reason to move there). But would this in any way help our chances of getting this waiting list place? Or would we be no better off effectively than if we just moved later and tried mid-year transfer?

BabyDubsEverywhere · 02/03/2020 10:41

DD Got her first choice, though as DS is there it was just a formality really. I can well remember the stress last year so I feel for anyone going through it!
I can't see anywhere to accept the place on the portal, and the email doesn't mention it, either. Do you only have to accept if you've not been offered your first place??
