Secondary offers day 2020

UselessTrees · 28/02/2020 11:58

Anybody else anxiously awaiting offers day for England secondaries on Monday? Obviously nothing I can do about our choices at this point, and yes it will probably all turn out fine, but I'm suddenly doubting everything and driving myself mad worrying about it!

OP posts:
louisejxxx · 29/02/2020 16:22

Good luck all...this will be me next year. Incidentally the county (Warks) we will be applying to have actually already put up their summarised offers (including grammar qualifying scores!) on their website so it would be fairly easy to figure out where a child’s got into without waiting for the email on Monday.

KittenVsBox · 29/02/2020 16:27

@ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords actual letters from the borough council.

PhonicTheHedgehog · 29/02/2020 17:20

Oh gosh. I’m panicking now. This thread spurred me into logging onto eadmissions. It says something along the line of thanks and add your child’s passport or birth certificate. We did that, but it’s still saying to do it!

tulippa · 29/02/2020 17:31

I have actually booked Monday off work so I can stay up late for the email. Blush Not sure why I am so bothered as DS will definitely get his 2nd choice which is good - just not quite as good as history 1st choice.

Hope everyone gets something they're happy with!

GolfForBrains · 29/02/2020 18:08

Hope you are in an area where they do send the email just after midnight tulippa and not eg London?

tulippa · 29/02/2020 18:14

Yes not in London. They get sent at midnight but as lots get sent at once they can take some time to filter through. Although in my nephew's case a couple of years ago there was a glitch and they didn't arrive til 11am. Hope that doesn't happen this time!

PhoenixMama · 29/02/2020 20:36

I was calm but starting to freak out. I moved across London for what I think is the best school for my dd. Really hoping it pays off on Monday. Can we log into the system now or do we just have to wait for the email?

QuarterMileAtATime · 29/02/2020 20:51

Phoenix, from what I've heard the results will be on the system around 5pm in Monday and the emails will come soon after (in London Borough).

lunar1 · 29/02/2020 20:54

I hate being in a grammar school area, if we don't get one of the two grammars he applied to the other options are awful as we aren't eligible for the faith schools. It's Monday for us.

Iggity · 29/02/2020 22:43

Anxiously waiting. In London borough and have six options. Choices 1-4 all have a lowish chance. Option 1 is probably top faith school in London so a lottery as we don’t qualify under sibling etc. For London do the emails get sent at 5pm or can you log on to the website from 5?

wlv12 · 01/03/2020 00:05

Another one anxiously waiting.

We’ve named 3 schools but will in reality only accept the top 2. Neither are our catchment school. It’s such a big thing and now I’m second guessing myself over whic school I put first and second!

TheGreatWave · 01/03/2020 08:36

My area have already sent emails. I am hoping last year's debacle, where 100+ children did not get a school place has not been offered.

Good luck for those waiting.

ShriekingBansheela · 01/03/2020 08:36

@Mum2Girls19
You will get one offer: the school highest up your preference list that was able to give you a place under their admissions criteria.

If you don’t get your top choice you should automatically can go on the waiting list for any school higher up the list.

Accept the school offered. It does not disadvantage you in getting any waiting list places. But if you turn it down you might end up with no school at all or one you want even less than the one offered.

wlv As above: accept whatever is offered and make sure you are on the waiting list for your preferred schools.

There is loads of movement after the deadline for accepting the offers, and onwards right through the summer. After the second round (after they move everyone up the waiting lists into places that become free after the acceptance deadline) you can stay on the list for all the schools you originally applied to, and also apply to and go on the waiting list for any other school you would find acceptable.

Waiting lists are held in the order of how closely you meet the admission criteria.

TheGreatWave · 01/03/2020 08:36

Offered should be repeated.

WhiteWall1 · 01/03/2020 09:14

We were in the same position last year and didn’t get a place at the local school. Ended up having to go through appeal and finally got a place in July. Was extremely stressful so best of luck everyone

Mum2Girls19 · 01/03/2020 09:26

Did people get offers today?

My facebook has been going crazy but my local council wont offer till Offers Day so we are a household of waiting and probably yet again no sleep...

Good luck to all and I hope you all the the places you wanted

lshark · 01/03/2020 10:28

Same here. Fb notifications everywhere but we wont get our offer until tomorrow morning. Argh!!! So impatient to know now, we are on the historical furthest point for our first choice so definitely a nervous time until tomorrow

Longwhiskers14 · 01/03/2020 10:32

We're in north London and should get our first choice but is anyone else panicking they filled in the application incorrectly?! I checked it a few times before the deadline but I still have The Fear. 😂

LarkinSky · 01/03/2020 10:51

Nervously waiting to hear from North Yorkshire LEA / Red Kite Trust here...😐

davisson · 01/03/2020 11:16

South London here and feeling sick about tomorrow...how fluid are the waiting lists? And do you find out where you are on the waiting lists tomorrow? I look back to the schools we put down and have no faith that we made any good choices though! It was all so stressful. My DC looks like going to a school with none of her friends as well and it's breaking my heart.

TheGreatWave · 01/03/2020 11:53

The time people get the emails really varies. My area is always early morning, but other areas (Kent/London) always seem to be later. Obviously being a Sunday may have an impact.

davisson I hope wherever your DC ends up they settle and are happy. My DD went to a school with none of her friends (it was our 1st choice, but no one else's) and has settled really well. She was always going to be at a different school to some of her friends due to how the catchments for the secondary schools work, but it was totally the right decision.

Mum2Girls19 · 01/03/2020 11:54

We're in Staffordshire here and moved our girls to another primary 2 years ago.
My eldest has made some great friends so I'm hoping they all go into the same high school together....fingers crossed

PhonicTheHedgehog · 01/03/2020 12:05

The main issue with our first choice school was that a lot of the children from the class will go there. Not a problem for us as they’re all lovely children but it’s a one form entry primary school and DD wants to stretch her wings a bit. It’s a small secondary too so there’s bound to be a few from her school in each form. That’s why she preferred the school we put as 3.
However if we haven’t filled out the form correctly who knows what we will get?!

ShriekingBansheela · 01/03/2020 12:06

how fluid are the waiting lists? And do you find out where you are on the waiting lists tomorrow

There is lots of movement on waiting lists, and that will happen a couple of weeks after the deadline for accepting offers. Then steady movement through the summer, especially in London which has a highly mobile population.

I don’t think you can find your waiting list place until after the acceptance deadline.

Remember everyone: Accept the place, make sure you are in the waiting list for your preferred schools!

davisson · 01/03/2020 12:13

Thanks @TheGreatWave nice to hear a good news story. At present it all feels bleak! @ShriekingBansheela that makes sense re waiting lists. If you feel you've made completely the wrong decision (ie should have put another school higher) you presumably have to pull out of the system and start all over with no chance.
Finally we really don't have the money for this other than selling up, but I'm guessing all the private schools are massively oversubscribed too...we couldn't even start with those?
