Hello All,

Welcome to thread 6 - results...

Last thread here:

Gcses 2019 support thread 5 http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/3610608-gcses-2019-support-thread-5

It's been a fantastically supportive set of threads to date with a diverse set of expectations and challenges (for both parents and children).

I expect this thread may be the most emotive for us all (crikey how did the time fly!!)

Good luck everyone Thanks

Wow some amazing results! Well done to all. Ds has just set off.

bizzey · 22/08/2019 09:52

Oh I know 5's are good .
I was not being "funny" just hopelly optimistic !
5's will get him into 6th form ....but i really doubt buisness studies will be any where near there !

Bimkom · 22/08/2019 09:52

Congratulations Ligressa (shame about the Classics, can you look at remarks? but well done for the rest, and glad it is a relief); Sososour (what was that about her not having done as well as my DS? I think she beat him!) lightlypoached (glad he has what he needs), TheStirrer, Saucery, Michaelahpurple and Arewedone
Fantastic results all

pikapikachu · 22/08/2019 09:54

She's done really well.

2 Grade 8, 7 Grade 7, 1 Distinction and 1 Pass for a Level 3 qualification. Super proud !

Bimkom · 22/08/2019 09:56

And of course as I was posting some more came in - well done Crikeyblimey DC (glad you are all chuffed) andMaudBaileysGreen Turban DS (really glad you are pleased and relieved - amazing about the 9s in the subjects he doesn't want to do. Any chance he will reconsider? What were they anyway?)

Bimkom · 22/08/2019 09:56

And pikapikachu DD!

Appleby39 · 22/08/2019 09:57

Our son couldn't sleep at all last night, came into our bedroom early this morning and we had a lovely cuddle and a nap, something i've missed having with him since he's got older so I enjoyed the moment haha. Had Alexa playing thunderstorms sounds and I told him to focus on that with his eyes shut. He did manage an hour of sleep and then jumped into the shower. Unfortunatly I couldn't go with him to collect his results as we have the painter and decorator here so Dad has gone. On the plus side he's not long called me with his results so I got to hear first, yay, or at least what I can make out of them. He's so excited and chuffed so that alone is a relief. Told him how proud we were of him and that I wanted a snap snot of him holding his results. He was actually up for that as usually I get moaned at for wanting pictures. I think he got a B for both Maths and RE, BC sciences, as did double. C for both English and Lit. C for Drama. Not sure about the rest of it as he was bubbling over with excitement and with friends so I just went along with it. We are in Wales so still use the old GCSE system.

Good Luck to all

Bimkom · 22/08/2019 10:09

Congratulations Appleby39, so glad your DS was so happy.

Frith2013 · 22/08/2019 10:13

Well, my son failed everything. Not unexpected. Now wondering whether a school more special than his special school might have been the way forward, without pushing him into GCSEs.

whojamaflip · 22/08/2019 10:15

So the boy is off to Agriculture College - 5s and 6s across the board apart from English Lang which was a 4 ( thank god he doesn't have to resit which was his biggest worry) but managed a 6 in eng lit - he was all wtf Grin

Well done to all - some very relieved dc today and good luck to those still waiting

KittyMcKitty · 22/08/2019 10:19

Ds has got into 6th form which is brilliant. He has under performed but it’s probably reflective of how much work he put in (and how much decent revision as opposed to gazing at a revision guide). History was a disappointment and Eng Lit very low for him but overall it’s got him to next stage.

1 x 9 Geography
1 x 8 Eng Lang
4 x 7 Maths, Chemistry, Physics, DT
4 x 6 Eng Lit, Biology, French, History.

Congratulations to all dc. Am in awe of these amazing children achieving all these 9’s!!

Bimkom · 22/08/2019 10:20

I'm really sorry Frith2013 - what are the options now? Has he taken it really badly?

GloriaSmud · 22/08/2019 10:22

DD2s results- 1x8, 6x6s, 1x5 and 2x4s. She's done brilliantly and much better than she thought she would!

KittyMcKitty · 22/08/2019 10:22

Frith2013 so sorry- hope he (and you) are ok and he’s getting some good advice from school.

Bimkom · 22/08/2019 10:24

Congratulations to your DS whojamaflip it is such a relief to get where you had hoped to go (I think he wouldn't have had to resit the English Lang in any case, given his English Lit score, but still, much better to have passed outright).
And congratulations to KittyMcKitty DS on getting into his sixth form - those are a pretty stunning set of results if he really didn't revise much!

Bimkom · 22/08/2019 10:26

Congratulations also to GloriaSmud DD2, if I recall upthread you were really worried, so great that it turned out so well for her.

pointythings · 22/08/2019 10:29

So sorry it hasn't worked out for you, Frith.

Happy times here - DD2 got the 9 in Lang that she wanted, 8 in History and French, 7 in Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Maths and Lit, 6 in Drama and Physics. Much better than anticipated, the 7 in Maths completely floored her.

Bimkom · 22/08/2019 10:33

Congratulations pointythings _Understand that feeling about the Maths. For us it was the English language. We were desperately hoping against hope for a 7, so where they 8 came from, we just don't know.

abitoflight · 22/08/2019 10:43

DD much better than I expected and much better than mocks
I'm so happy and relieved
Off to sixth form
Some great results on here

ArthurtheCatsHumanSlave · 22/08/2019 10:44

Difficult to explain how DD feels. She is devastated, her results are good, and she acknowledges this, but she feels she could have done better. In old money she has 7A*, 2A, 1B. Her actual results are:
2 A* - Eng Lang, Eng Lit
8's - Maths, History, Class Civ, Chemistry, Drama
7's - Biology, German
6 - Physics

She has no 9's, and that's the problem. She feels she has failed. It is so sad, she mostly feels she has let her teachers down. We might pursue the physics as that is the outlier, she got an 8 in mocks and all her tests were 80%+, so something went badly wrong.

Her school has written to her to congratulate her on matching or exceeding her predicted, but she still feels down.

She didn't go to school for the photo's.

KnifeAngel · 22/08/2019 10:45

Well done to everyone. Dd did much better than she ever thought she would. She has changed her A Level choices as a result.

Orangecake123 · 22/08/2019 10:46

My little sister got:
1x 8 - biology
6x7s
3x6 = maths, english lit and geography
1x5 = computer science

She's not happy though and comparing herself to others in her class (she did go to a selective private school).

myrtleWilson · 22/08/2019 10:49

Mixed results here - she's good for her a-levels but some results have upset her - appears not just to be her either. Am not bothered about the results themselves but exactly what I didn't want to happen has - she's upset and her confidence is on the floor Sad

TabbyStar · 22/08/2019 10:54

Excellent results for DD bearing in mind the complete meltdown during exams, one 6 and the rest 7s, 8s and 9s. Just got back from school. She's off out with her friends and I don't quite know what to do with myself now!

squeakyboy · 22/08/2019 10:57

Twins here One got
1 9's
3 8's
2 7's
3 6's
other got
2 9's
3 8's
2 7's
1 6's
1 5's

Both very pleased but the 5 is in Eng Lit which he really wanted to do for A level, he's been accepted onto the course but he's not sure - we're getting it remarked.
