Hello All,

Welcome to thread 6 - results...

Last thread here:

Gcses 2019 support thread 5 http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/3610608-gcses-2019-support-thread-5

It's been a fantastically supportive set of threads to date with a diverse set of expectations and challenges (for both parents and children).

I expect this thread may be the most emotive for us all (crikey how did the time fly!!)

Good luck everyone Thanks

Dd’s happy though - she’s landed herself a weekend job!

Arewedone · 02/09/2019 14:40

@Foslady- congrats on the weekend job ! Sorry to hear grade unchanged but ikwym about not trying, you’ve heard back so quickly.

Rugbylife · 02/09/2019 16:04

Had Biology review back today, it was only sent Friday, unfortunately grade remains the same so looks like he won’t be allowed to take it at A level, all for being 2 marks short. At least we know we did everything possible for him.

Arewedone · 02/09/2019 16:32

@Rugby That seems so unreasonable! Can you discuss with the school. It seems so unfair when your DS is passionate enough to want to take it at A level!

Arewedone · 02/09/2019 16:49

Dd just arrived home and opened her emails, RS has gone up 8 marks so it’s well over the 2 she needed for a grade 9. She is ecstatic it gives her 11 grade 9s!

Piggywaspushed · 02/09/2019 16:50

I am so pleased to hear that! So many people told you not to bother!

Arewedone · 02/09/2019 17:14

@Piggy I’m so pleased we did. It was the ethics paper where she picked up her marks which is subjective, so hoping others waiting for English or RS remarks are as lucky!

Piggywaspushed · 02/09/2019 17:24

Fingers crossed!

Foslady · 02/09/2019 19:52

@Rugbylife really hope they’ll allow him in on appeal, and congratulations @Arewedone dd - great news!

Rugbylife · 02/09/2019 20:13

They will let us know after Thursday, head of sixth form has a meeting with all subject teachers, he’s already doing PE and Chemistry A levels so hopefully they’ll let him do Biology too as he was only 2 marks off. Lesson learnt though he did paper 1 in Y10 and got a C and refused to resit in Y11, 2 marks off an A in paper 2 this year gave him an overall C. He now wishes he resat. Wouldn’t listen to us or his teacher he knew best!

ROZ12 · 02/09/2019 22:49

I just sent off for 2 remarks today , 1 mark of a B in Spanish igcse - cie board and eng Lang - 5 marks off a 7 Edexcel igcse.

I just wanted to know so examiners know this information when remarking or do they just remark so there is no bias?

Anyone else remarking CIE board exams - just heard they are very accurate and never go up or down.

Arewedone · 02/09/2019 22:56

Thank you @Foslady
Dd very happy.
@ROZ12 when we completed the request for the remark the slip already had the printed raw score per paper and the grade awarded, this was a Edexcel so would imagine it’s similar across the boards?

ROZ12 · 02/09/2019 23:01

@arewedone

Thank you hope this is done on CIE too.

ROZ12 · 02/09/2019 23:44

Languages remark - what paper is it sensible to remark ?

Oral I heard is set in stone and listening.

Written and reading sound sensible we are looking fir 1/2 a mark!!

Sososour · 03/09/2019 08:33

Is anyone interested in moving to the further education boards as ‘class of 2019’? Or do you think that would be a bit rude to pitch up en masse ?
It would be really good to continue to support and share info as our dcs move onto to colleges/apprenticeships and 6th forms.

Foslady · 03/09/2019 08:40

@Sososour that sound like a good idea for a thread, save clogging up on here, I’m sure we’ll all keep nipping back on this page too!

eatthatfrog · 03/09/2019 09:15

@sosour sounds like a good idea, will look out for new thread and post there

Arewedone · 03/09/2019 09:25

@Sososour great idea

ArthurtheCatsHumanSlave · 03/09/2019 10:10

ROZ12 I have the same question. Would love to know. DD is 2 marks off an 8 in German. Her Reading/Writing papers are already quite high, so not sure any extra marks available there. Her Listening and Speaking are the two that pulled her down. Listening she said was awful, everyone struggled, so unlikely to pick up anything there, so we were thinking about the oral....... DD's teacher seems to think her oral was fairly marked too, so is it even worth going for a remark?

tactum · 03/09/2019 13:40

How quickly are people getting reviews/papers back? Paid for a full review for language reading on Aug 22nd. Also, hos did you hear please?

Foslady · 03/09/2019 13:58

Music was back to me on Sunday via the exam officer but I doubt that they will have had much call for those

Rugbylife · 03/09/2019 15:02

We put our review in Friday had no change results back Monday for Biology, 2 Maths paper’s went off same time but not heard back from them yet. All went through exams officer at school.

berlinbabylon · 03/09/2019 15:25

I've finally heard back from ds' school and he was one mark off a 6 in English language. So we're going to go ahead with the review of marking. I suspect the chances of dropping down to a 4 or worse are slim.

Arewedone · 03/09/2019 16:26

Paid for review last Wednesday and received result last night, so 3 working days

LynetteScavo · 03/09/2019 19:05

I think my children must go to the most laid back school in the UK.

I've today spoken to HoD who has told me DS has to ask the examinations officer (who has ignited me for the past 2 weeks) for a review of his paper.

No confirmation of how much it will cost, but I need to write a cheque.

Is there anything else I should be asking for? I feel I'm groping in the dark here. I would have liked a copy of the script of DSs exam paper.

Is a review what I want? I thought I wanted a remarkConfused I think the grade is probably accurate but DS wants it reviewed and I don't want him always wondering.
