Hello All,

Welcome to thread 6 - results...

Last thread here:

Gcses 2019 support thread 5 http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/3610608-gcses-2019-support-thread-5

It's been a fantastically supportive set of threads to date with a diverse set of expectations and challenges (for both parents and children).

I expect this thread may be the most emotive for us all (crikey how did the time fly!!)

Good luck everyone Thanks

Thanks all. Not giddy and jumping about, more a sense of relief really. Just overwhelming relief.
Sorry you all are having to wait until later. I really appreciate that DS's school makes the results available on line from the earliest they are permitted to. I am going to miss the school (well, I still have DD there), it has a lot of strengths, but DS wanted something else, and I do understand his frustrations with it too.
I have been tossing and turning all night, so actually am tempted to go back to bed. DS is up and probably too wired to sleep at the moment, but I reckon he will crash shortly.
I really hope everybody has got what they need. Good luck all, only a couple more hours at worst (that is what I said to myself when i woke at2, and at 3, and at 5, and all the points in between).

Hoooo · 22/08/2019 07:12

I'm afraid my brain isn't up to converting into % at this time in the am.

I did a quiz on the sky news website - how would you do in a gcse exam?
Various questions on most topics.
I got 8/10 which is an 8!

Hmmm. Don't think so! :)

Wasrelaxing · 22/08/2019 07:13

Not slept a wink, no grades released yet.

GloriaSmud · 22/08/2019 07:14

Morning all,
I had to wake DD2 up a few minutes ago, she's really not wanting to get up and we have to leave in about 30 minutes Shock

Well done Bimkom's DS and Good Luck everyone.

AGirlHasNoCake · 22/08/2019 07:14

morning all, great to see you all here. Our results available from 10, but DS, super cool, doesnt want to be there as the doors open, he wants to make an entrance I think, (drama llama) so we are leaving here at 10ish and will be there by 10:20 latest. Then he can have his little moment. He is predicted high grades, but I feel I have to reiterate to him that a 7 is an A in old money, because he has put so much pressure on himself to achieve those higher grades. Madness.

DfD is terrified. I am hoping for a pass in English and Math. Anything else will be a bonus. Shes planning BTecs which will work well for her. If she gets the grades to get in.

I've survived the huge tantrums from anxiety last night and they are both sleeping late.

zen1 · 22/08/2019 07:17

I would be too excited to go back to sleep with those grades BimkomGrin

KittyMcKitty · 22/08/2019 07:17

Well done to your ds Bimkom stunning results.

I’ve woken up with a splitting headache. 15 minutes till I wake ds up and then I’m dropping him into school for you this 8.30. I thought I was nervous on 11+ results day but that was a walk in the park in comparison Smile just hope ds gets what he needs - he’s bright but his revision wasn’t great.

Good luck to all those waiting x

Foslady · 22/08/2019 07:24

That’s brilliant @bimkom - congratulations! Good luck everyone, I hope you all have smiles! All fairly calm still here - I think we all know she couldn’t have tried any harder than she did, so no regrets to think about. I actually feel calmer about the GCSE’s than I did the 11+ as dd wasn’t tutored but it appeared after the exam everyone else was. This time it was all on her and no guilt on me if I could have done more if that makes sense!

Saucery · 22/08/2019 07:27

DS still in bed and didn’t want to hear exciting news about grade boundaries Shock I dunno, youth of today.......

gleegeek · 22/08/2019 07:38

Just checking in! Well done Binkom's ds - amazing results.
Dd goes in at 10am...am ignoring grade boundaries - they don't help and will just make me panic!
Good luck everyone xx

Wasrelaxing · 22/08/2019 07:48

My son sat edexcel history code 1H10FQ
What option should I be referring to when looking at grade boundaries please?

myrtleWilson · 22/08/2019 07:50

Well done binkom the "dreaded 6th form" will be very pleased to have him.

Not even looking at grade boundaries here...

School opens at 10am. Last night DD veering towards opening at school rather than original plan of coming home...

Toolongtowait · 22/08/2019 07:52

Well, just spent the last hour trawling through grades, comparing grade boundaries etc. for the subject I teach. Tougher grade boundaries in my subject this year.
Haven't had time to look at other subjects!
Have Eng Lit /maths boundaries changed?
Feeling sick with nerves for DD...
Fingers crossed for later...

berlinbabylon · 22/08/2019 07:55

Wow Bimkom that's fab. Congratulations.

Looking at grade boundaries DS should be ok with science, might even get 6-6. Hoping for 7s and 8s for the other subjects.

Wish we didn't have to wait until 10.30!

Historygeek05 · 22/08/2019 08:01

Relaxing - I think the paper codes you need are 11 (medicine) 2Q (superpower relations and Henry VIII) and 31 (Weimar/Nazi Germany).

1stevernamechange · 22/08/2019 08:02

Well done Binksmom and Monty!
Dd has just got up, I’ve loooked at the grade boundaries, I have no idea how to interpret them, and why are there so many histories?

marmiteloversunite · 22/08/2019 08:03

10.30! Seems like extra torture. I thought 9.00 was bad enough. I looked at the grade boundaries briefly but realised I had no idea what I was looking it so closed that page swiftly.

Just woken DD2. She looks like crap and basically asking if she can go into school in her pyjamas!

GrasswillbeGreener · 22/08/2019 08:04

I was feeling slightly guilty last night as I am away on a course and not home till tomorrow morning. Results on line.

Just found out she's managed the clean sweep - all 9s (or equivalent). We knew it was plausible but I don't think she believed it was actually possible. Some of the marks are up and she's discovered that for sciences in particular she cleared the grade boundaries by a long way (IGCSEs mostly). Those teachers will be disappointed ... she's planning History/English/Maths ...

We're so proud of her, because she did work very steadily to ensure this. History was the biggest "worry" because the grade boundaries and marking criteria seemed quite close and "chancy" - 7 in her mocks - but it's always been her favoured subject. All the work on exam technique has paid off. She's looking forward to getting her teeth into A level work I think.

I really hope that the news for you all represents fantastic achievement for your children in the same way ours does.

Wasrelaxing · 22/08/2019 08:06

@Historygeek05
Thank you.

AGirlHasNoCake · 22/08/2019 08:08

congratulations GrasswillbeGreener's DD - fantastic result. One in 732 kids countrywide, apparently.

Sososour · 22/08/2019 08:19

Wow grass! Gosh that’s fantastic.. well done to her.
Hard work paying off there

bizzey · 22/08/2019 08:20

Morning .
Wow these results ate amazing !!!.
I think at the moment we will be happy with a clean sweep og 5's.

Results are 9-10 at school then 6th form enrollment this afternoon .

Oh crikey !! Thank goodness i started typing about enrollment !!

He needs his passport....off to get it now !

berlinbabylon · 22/08/2019 08:21

10.30! Seems like extra torture

Yes. But I suppose after so many weeks another couple of hours makes no difference. The other school here said 9.30 though so half the town's 16 year olds will be going round clutching their results while the other half are still waiting anxiously...

berlinbabylon · 22/08/2019 08:22

And @Grass - wow! Congratulations to your daughter - that is amazing.

Toolongtowait · 22/08/2019 08:36

bizzy A clean sweep of 5s is an achievement! Is high C low B borderline. Not to be sniffed at.
