Hi everyone- just that- holding out hope for KGS or Ibstock in particular, but worried it's been a bumper year with the birth rate in SW London. If anyone is certain of which school they are accepting may I beg you in politest way possible to please don't let your other offers just lapse, please tell school if you won't be taking up offer. Similarly let state schools know too if you will be taking up indie place. Thank you from those of us desperate for indie place as worried state allocation will be too far to be practical as not church going and in "black spot" locality!!!Shock

Hi @Callicarpa19 in LBHF we don’t hear about the state schools until after 7 pm tonight so can’t make decisions until after that..... I’m holding a place at Ibstock for my daughter and do really love it but can’t make a decision until we hear from LMS or get the final response from G & L (were waitlisted there....)

Callicarpa19 · 01/03/2019 15:33

Thanks GeordieGirl! Best of luck. I had a neighbour whose DD got a place at LMS in July once uniform bought elsewhere! hoping you have a (difficult but nice!) choice this evening!

Just declined Ibstock, so hopefully there maybe some movement.

Callicarpa19 · 01/03/2019 17:05

Fingers crossed! Thank you for posting!

Hi @Callicarpa19 there’s no news on the G & L waiting list yet so I’m still holding (and probably going to accept) an offer from Ibstock- my DD did get her LMS offer but I’m going to release that next week. Hopefully you’ll get good news soon

FlumePlume · 03/03/2019 08:38

The Tiffin thread (yesterday, page 16, post by Geogra) has some info on waiting list movement.

Callicarpa19 · 03/03/2019 08:55

Thanks so much both. I think the boys deadline might be tues or Wednesday. I presume the coeds divide their waitlists between girls and boys to ensure the ratio is 50/50 so might have to hold on during this long LONG wait for longerrrr for DS

Meant the boys and coed schools!

TheExtraGuineaPig · 03/03/2019 10:29

According to the head at KGS they don't divide their intake to boys and girls - the interviews are just down to who does best in the entrance exam

ancientgeordiegirl · 04/03/2019 15:03

@Callicarpa19 I accepted IPS today hope you’ve had some luck on the waitlists?

Callicarpa19 · 04/03/2019 15:40

Thank you- told there won't be movement until this evening at earliest for IPS. Crossing everything.....

Firstly just want to empathise with all waitlist hopefuls. Unsettling isn’t the word..
I accepted Putney High today and received LMS offer which I will release next week when I know exactly where we are. Still waiting for g&l but am being more realistic as time goes on..
Good luck everyone, really hope you all get some good news soon.

Mots · 04/03/2019 19:52

Hi. Going through waitlist angst too. On the Putney waitlist and longing for it. From what I understand from the SW London gossip/chat etc is that this year there has been very little movement on the list at G&L which has effected Putney and others. What I have heard from Putney and from teacher friends is that many places/waiting list places are left to lapse which slows everything down. We are holding a place at FH Sloane Square but keen to get Putney. It is now looking like like we will pay a deposit at FH tomorrow by noon and then see how we feel about loosing the deposit if/when a putney place comes up. I feel like a hypocrite towards those wanting a FH place but wish the lists would get moving.
Was there a baby boom in SW London in 2007/8?!!

littlemisslucky2 · 04/03/2019 20:11

Good luck to those waiting for a WL place. Yes, I’ve always been told it was a high birth rate for that school year and my school Borough was up by 148 applicants this year in the state system.

Bool · 04/03/2019 20:18

We were waiting for PHS too today but were told all places are taken and there will only be movement now if other waiting lists move which I can only now assume means people losing deposits. So likelihood low. So we took up our place at KGS and released IPS and SHS. Ufff it’s like one big house chain.

WestOlive · 04/03/2019 20:20

Hi Mots, we are in the exactly same situation and have the same thought by acceping an offer for NHES tomorrow while still hoping that the G&L waiting list to move. As far as we’ve been informed by their registrar this afternoon, it hasn’t moved yet as they’re still pushing their offer holders to give them an answer. I’m so tired of lurking as we’ve gone through 7+ with our younger one at the same time. Fingers crossed for you too.

Callicarpa19 · 04/03/2019 20:50

Hi everyone! Yes in our area apparently state secondary applications up 7% this year and neighbouring areas 10 and 8% increases - so yes baby boom!

WestOlive a child in my DC's class got a call from G&L late Friday so there list must be - or did - move a bit.

anyone hear of boys or coed schools moving? Hampton, Kings? KGS? Latymer?! Well done everyone who has managed a decision!

OP posts:
Bool · 04/03/2019 21:04

@Callicarpa19 I tried to dig a bit at KGS on how busy it was but didn’t get an answer!

Callicarpa19 · 04/03/2019 21:28

Also couldn't get any info!!!

WestOlive · 04/03/2019 21:45

Thank you Callicarpa for the info. That’s interesting. The registrar made it very clear that their list has not moved yet and discussing the situation with the head.

It was a miracle for our not so academic DD to make their waiting list so We’re not expecting another miracle to happen tomorrow morning. Will happily settle with NHES. Good luck to everyone with the waitlists.

Callicarpa19 · 04/03/2019 22:12

I think NHES is wonderful and expect she'll be very happy there! All the best for her

Thanks for the info on g&l Callicarpa - that’s the first I’ve heard of their waitlist moving. Did she take it? I am sure from the school’s perspective it’s within their interests (or any school’s) to say as little as possible at this stage. Would appreciate any further news on g&l as am well aware I am holding a place at Putney high (which we feel genuinely blessed to have).

ancientgeordiegirl · 04/03/2019 23:35

@Toomuchpressure169 - we're in a similar situation - we've both accepted on our "second" choices -and are also holding offers from LMS. I don't know about you but the longer G& L takes with the waitlist the more attached we as a family have become to the "second" choice. I've always liked IPS but I suppose I was / am swayed by the prestige of G & L and where they are on the GCSE results lists etc. I also was really worried about the commute as we live closer to G & L. During the exam season my daughter was much more taken with G & L (she liked the Dolphin mascot [fab PR!]) but she has sort of moved on from G & L now telling me to give up hope on G & L.....what a mature 11 year old I've raised... so to sum up all this rambling the more I think about IPS the more I like it - me and my DD did the School run to IPS today to drop off the acceptance letter - left Fulham at 7.40 a.m. and was at IPS just before 8 a.m. I think during the first term I'll drive her there and she can get the 430 back (it's about a 10 minute walk from IPS). I suppose my choices are much more different to yours as I'm comparing a co-ed against a girls only. I do really like the co-ed aspect (my daughter is in primary school and has 2 brothers so is used to hanging out with boys). Anyway I suppose we'll find out tomorrow - good luck!
