Hi everyone- just that- holding out hope for KGS or Ibstock in particular, but worried it's been a bumper year with the birth rate in SW London. If anyone is certain of which school they are accepting may I beg you in politest way possible to please don't let your other offers just lapse, please tell school if you won't be taking up offer. Similarly let state schools know too if you will be taking up indie place. Thank you from those of us desperate for indie place as worried state allocation will be too far to be practical as not church going and in "black spot" locality!!!Shock

I wouldn't underestimate how indecisive some people are. I was talking to someone today who'd accepted one school, then decided it was too far and retracted. She's now paid the deposit for two other schools and is still dithering.

All three are very selective top 20 type schools in London.

I find it baffling but then they might think I'm a bit blasé about our choices (and obsessed with ease of journey after a 30-second walk to primary).

Anyway she can't be the only one who's that indecisive so I'm not surprised that registrars see movement trickling on and on.

waytoomuchmuch · 06/03/2019 18:58

Xionati: So sorry to hear that but good to hear you got your second choice!

Patiencevirtue: Thank you for your words of wisdom. Fingers crossed!

Callicarpa19 · 06/03/2019 19:05

Wishing luck and patience for tomorrow for anyone waiting. Did all the offer deadlines pass this afternoon?

@PatienceVirtue when we did our initial list of secondary school choices, I looked at the TFL map first - LOL

PatienceVirtue · 07/03/2019 10:21

You're so right @Xionati - Citymapper is more important than the Good Schools Guide. I just can't understand how anybody would choose a hideous journey over an easy one. I'd never put my children through a commute that I wouldn't be prepared to do myself.

I also just can't understand why people can't make a decision. I don't think she could bear to opt for the one lower down the league tables purely because she and her daughter preferred it/easier to get to/more local friends/nicer atmosphere. And it's not even as if it were some sort of dumping ground for the less academic - 1 in 4 of its leavers are Oxbridge etc.

Maybe the system engenders this madness.

If of interest a friend got a WL from JAGS yesterday and another friend from LU, also yesterday ......

xionati · 07/03/2019 15:29

Has anyone ever been offered a place after told the wait list was closed?

We have now moved on with our firm offers however I was just curious if this ever does happen?

Mots · 07/03/2019 15:39

Hi. I have heard in the past of PHS making offers in May and September right before the term starts. I am sure other schools do but PHS is the school that I have been asking around about....

xionati · 07/03/2019 16:10

@Mots did you have any success or still hoping for a place?

birkenstok · 07/03/2019 16:38

My DD is (was?) on Alleyn's WL and sadly it's a no for us. I've asked them to keep DD on the list for later, just in case. Haven't received a response though.
Will happily update news in case there is change in coming months... My other half thinks that this year could see a lot of people moving or changing personal circumstances in London, with Brexit... but maybe it's delusional.

Mots · 07/03/2019 16:43

@xionati Nothing yet. They say there have been very few offers to WL places. I will prob call one more time next week to see if any movement and then fully focus on our 2nd choice, FH SW1. FH is amazing and they are making so much effort to bring my DD into the FH family already.

xionati · 07/03/2019 17:06

@Mots I know there has been some movement at DD schools and there were still some people with PHS places, looking at accepting WL offers elsewhere (yesterday). I guess you never really do know. Its a game of dominos.

Mots · 07/03/2019 17:32

@xionati oooo... thanks for the intel! Will try again tomorrow!

1ndig0 · 08/03/2019 07:58

Mots - FHS SS is a fabulous school! If you have a place there, I don’t think you can lose. The GCSE results are the same as KGS and no doubt on the up. I loved that school! The head’s speech was a breath of fresh air - the way she talked about how no girl wouid be leaving FHS without knowing how to get a mortgage; how to open a bank account; how to set up a small business, etc. I know girls there and have never heard a bad word. DD was offered a academic scholarship there and if it hadn’t meant a tube commute, I think we might have gone for it over G&L. We definitely preferred it to PHS tbh. I think if you have a place there, take it and run with it!

Callicarpa19 · 08/03/2019 08:38

Hi everyone to keep my fast fading hope alive, please let me know if you hear any movement for coed or boys schools 😩 wish we had a GDST, FHs, surbiton, etc for the boys Sad

OP posts:
Bool · 08/03/2019 10:36

@Callicarpa19 have you heard from KGS what their waitlist is like?

Callicarpa19 · 08/03/2019 10:43

Hi Bool, they haven't gone to waitlist (offer deadline was Wed evening). Praying that there are parents like one mentioned below who have paid two deposits and will pull out!!!

OP posts:
Mots · 08/03/2019 12:33

@1ndig0
You are absolutely right about FH and to be honest we believe that it is prob a better fit for our DD. We always have loved it and the head is wonderful. My PHS dreaming is more about my DD being so disappointed and an easier journey. Our DD is coming around to FH and all it has to offer. I think by next week our efforts to get her on board and move on from the idea of PHS, will have been successful. Then we can forget about Putney (I think!).

Bool · 08/03/2019 13:50

@Callicarpa19 we accepted KGS and have just chased on PHS waitlist. There was a little movement beginning of this week and mini Bool is apparently in a very good position. Just have no idea if there is due to be more movement.

Thesunalwaysshines · 08/03/2019 19:02

Bool*. You will lose your deposit for kgs though, right??

Callicarpa19 · 08/03/2019 19:14

Ironically my DD is at PHS and she did get off the waitlist! So good luck to your DD. My DS at KGS and loves it, hoping you get off your waitlist and my DC can have your place at KGS!!!

OP posts:
Bool · 09/03/2019 09:40

@thesunalwaysshines well yes IF a place comes up. But honestly is a big if now.

SpringtimeUmbrella · 09/03/2019 09:41

Hello All, does anyone know if FHS has any movement on its waitlist. DS has IPS, but FHS is top choice.

SpringtimeUmbrella · 09/03/2019 09:42

sorry should have typed DD

Thesunalwaysshines · 09/03/2019 10:03

Bool. Well, if you are prepared to lose the deposit, so you don't have any time pressure, and you've been told that your DD is in a good position on PHS waitlist, then between now and September one could come up! What are you telling your DD?
