The Secondofhername I went to Greenbelt after GCSE's. Was a great weekend with very little sleep!

So we are 14 down, 13 in 2 weeks to go after half term.

Anyone heard how English Lit was. They should be finishing about now?

DD's last day at school, that's it now just needs to be in for exams. feels quite bizarre!

mmzz · 25/05/2018 11:22

Sounds like AQA had Singh Song (Love anthology) and Ozymandias (Conflict anthology). Singh Song - Ds's least liked poem of the lot!

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/05/2018 11:22

Judging from Twitter, I think the given poems for AQA may have been Ozymandias / Singh Song.

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/05/2018 11:22

Cross-posted!

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/05/2018 11:25

And Simon for Lord of the Flies...

mmzz · 25/05/2018 11:26

AQA: AIC seems to have been about Eric or Social Class. So, two easy ones, but that will impact the grade boundaries.

mmzz · 25/05/2018 11:28

They're never going to be able to use these exams as past papers for next year's mocks are they? Just a tiny bit of googling in November will tell you exactly what is in the exam.

CatherineCawood · 25/05/2018 11:30

mmzz DD said the AIC question was a good one. She uses a laptop for essay exams (amongst other access arrangements) and wrote 3625 words in total for the exam!!!! Shock

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/05/2018 11:32

Is anyone else getting AQA adverts at the bottom of the page? 😂

CatherineCawood · 25/05/2018 11:33

mmzz that is true never thought of that! One glance at twitter and you'd have it all wrapped up!

thesunwillout · 25/05/2018 11:36

Just heard from did, poem was Ozymandias, sorry about spelling

Sostenueto · 25/05/2018 11:36

One happy dgd! Osemandus ( sorry about spelling) was poem, unseen about ageing and inspector calls was either social class or Eric! Dgd said she hopes examiners have plenty if time and patience as she wrote 10 pages! Well English lit done and dusted! This was AQA paper 2.

thesunwillout · 25/05/2018 11:37

Lol how DO you spell that !

mmzz · 25/05/2018 11:38

Apparently, Ozymandias was what AQA used for the specimen paper for the half who choose Conflict poems. So, every student will have either done it on a mock (and gone through in detail afterwards) or revised it in detail in class.
I don't know if the same can be said about Singh Song though.

Sostenueto · 25/05/2018 11:39

Grade boundaries will be high (sigh).

TeenTimesTwo · 25/05/2018 11:41

re using for mocks. If kids next year search for info on this years exams to cheat at mocks, the only people they are hurting is themselves as they aren't giving themselves a fair test. So more fool them.

mmzz · 25/05/2018 11:41

TheSecondOfHerName not me (adverts). But i can see on the toolbar that Adblock has filtered out 15 adverts from this page alone!

mmzz · 25/05/2018 11:42

TeenTimesTwo I bet they will though. Then forget that they did it, and persuade themselves that they truly did that well.

mmzz · 25/05/2018 11:43

Grade boundaries will be high (sigh). True - but only for the half who had Ozymandais. The other half didn't have the same advantage and will help lower it back down.

CatherineCawood · 25/05/2018 11:45

Ozymandias is the correct spelling. By the looks of twitter no one found it too hard so those grade boundaries are going to be high.

AlexanderHamilton · 25/05/2018 11:46

Any feedback from Edexel English Lit yet?

Dh said that he had never seen dd so nervous as she was taking her in for Lit Paper 1 on Tuesday. Maybe its because its a subject that counts (A level choice) & she is under expectation to do well but her SpLD means that she has the ability to spectacturlaly mis-interpret things at times (her end of Year 10 exam she got Grade 9 on question 1 but 0 marks on question 2.

Cherryburn · 25/05/2018 11:47

Sost absolutely delighted to hear it went well for your DGD. Well done her! Hopefully that will give her confidence going forward (does she still have Eng Lang to go?)

AlexanderHamilton · 25/05/2018 11:48

For us as a family its not over yet with Romeo & Juliet. Last night they advertised the RSC live showing in July & ds wants to go.

Nettleskeins · 25/05/2018 11:49

nooooo.....we didn't revise Singh song. Although I did point out to ds2 that the title is a pun on an Indian surname. And if it was about love I suppose he had quite a few poems to compare it to, happy love I mean. Ds2 did revise it a bit himself though, at least he knows it is dialect. But nothing like the effort we put into the other poems.

Nettleskeins · 25/05/2018 11:54

I know nothing about DNA (the set book) so I am luckily completely in the dark whether he has understood the question or not...

If dd continued at the rate that she did when she left the car and was going over her poetry notes she will have hopefully reached Singh Song just before going into the exam...What about Pidgin English, was that an easy question?

Wish dd would text me but she may be crying somewhere Sad

Sostenueto that is so wonderful about your dgd, the confidence from that will carry her forwards.
