@dogs - DD is doing OCR combined higher science.

AlwaysHiding · 17/05/2018 11:52

Sorry, @dogz (tired eyes)

Sostenueto · 17/05/2018 12:04

Seems that damn biology paper only one that is worrying dgd. Couldn't get much out of her for paper 2 RE other than better and easier than paper 1. She will tell more about chemistry when she gets home and I'm treating everyone to a chinky tonight!

About stress. On other thread some of you know that dgd ended up in hospital for a few days with tummy trouble caused through a combination of never, ever, drinking enough and STRESS. She is following high fibre diet along with her meds which although she hates them, takes them. She has lost almost a stone in the last few weeks through stress and tummy trouble which is an awful lot but she us at the higher end of weight for her height so although only a size 12 she will be OK. Though I don't want her to lose much more. She will never be thin like some of her friends as its not in her genesSmile and a lit if her weight us muscle which she developed when swimming. But stress can have a devastating affect. One if her friendship group self harms and each of the other four friends monitors her and if anyone feels she is self harming then they take her to nurse together to support her which I think is real friendship. Also one us on birder if anorexia but with the help of the group has put on half a stone in the last few months. Our teenagers are truly awesome and caring people!Stars

Sorry about misspells my hand is shaking a lot today. No sleep, stress and forgeting to take meds before I left this morning is the result.

Sostenueto · 17/05/2018 12:15

dogzdinner yes my dgd doing triple AQA sciences. ( higher)

hmcAsWas · 17/05/2018 12:20

Dd just come back from Chemistry AQA Higher. She found it - as she expected to - very hard, since she was not as prepared as she would have liked and she also finds Chemistry completely tedious so none of the information sticks.

She also mentioned the Chadwick experiment JugglingMum as in she didn't know who he was. She spent a few dreamy minutes contemplating Chadwick Boseman in his Black Panther suit, and then decided to write up on the only experiment she could think of that involves ions.

Can't believe how upbeat she is given that she has - in her words - bombed it. She reckons she can rescue a 4 or 5 out of the embers by doing better in paper 2 which she has always found a little easier. She's gone upstairs to her room feeling quite cheery. I would never have guessed that she could be so sanguine about a 'bad' exam - in an odd sort of way it makes me proud! (this is a girl who hasn't always done so well on 'resilience')

AlexanderHamilton · 17/05/2018 12:21

AQA Chemistrey higer feedback

"It was decent. One stinker of a question but OK overall and I had a good go at it. There was stuff in there not actually on the spec but I knew about it from wider reading"

callitwhatyouwill · 17/05/2018 12:21

DD’s come out of Edexcel Chemistry very happy so that’s goodGrinmore more ticked off the list. She’s doing 8 subjects (3 already done over the last two years) and has 22 exams- I expect this is normal.

Thanks to every for your concern over DD’s issues with a “friend “Flowers your support really means a lot.

Hope everyone’s having a good day of exams.

DD has French tomorrow- the last one ever and she can hand her books backGrin

Cherryburn · 17/05/2018 12:30

hmc good for her. Hope paper 2 goes better for her

Heard from DS who thinks Edexcel iGCSE Chemistry went well although, like the Biology, there were a couple of real curve balls in there vs all the past papers he's seen. Maybe it's policy across the boards this year.

hmcAsWas · 17/05/2018 12:31

So, are you encouraging your dc to have any days off after the 25 May? (when I am guessing that most dc, like mine, have a 13 day gap before the next exam and then only 4 more papers in total each spaced a day or two apart)

I have suggested dd should take the weekend plus the Monday and Tuesday. Possibly being over generous and 3 days off is enough? She certainly needs a few days not considering exams or revision at all

hmcAsWas · 17/05/2018 12:33

Glad it went well for your ds Cherryburn

Its great to hear that all dc are doing well but I always feel a bit more solidarity with the dc who have dyslexia

Sostenueto · 17/05/2018 12:34

Dgd quote from this morning on way to school after my peptalkGrin' knowledge - I know I've got a damn exam, understanding- I understand what an exam is, application- run for the exit! GrinShock

dogzdinner · 17/05/2018 12:34

Thinking about the Chadwick question - do they add in questions that aren't in the syllabus for Grade 9s?

Sostenueto · 17/05/2018 12:37

Einstein was dyslexic so don't worry all will be well hmcFlowers

Sostenueto · 17/05/2018 12:38

No idea dogzdinner seems anything g goes this year!

dogzdinner · 17/05/2018 12:38

hmcAsWas - My DS has an 11 day break and then has a further 10 exams. I think it would depend what the 4 exams were as to how much revision to do?

DS is attending his Dad's wedding in half term so he'll have a day off for that

hmcAsWas · 17/05/2018 12:39

Grin thanks Sostenueto

Sostenueto · 17/05/2018 12:40

Well done to all dcs who have survived chemistry!Cake

hmcAsWas · 17/05/2018 12:41

Ah - that's a heavier load for your ds than my dd dogzdinner...I wouldn't be contemplating a few days off if she had another 10 exams

Sostenueto · 17/05/2018 12:42

Welcome hmc every single child has a gift no matter what disability. Your DC a Star no matter what.

CaptainBlackadder · 17/05/2018 12:45

Had DD on the phone in tears because she says she froze and didn’t answer a whole section on the chemistry paper 1 this morning, which she says was half the paper (Edexcel combined science higher). She needs a 7 in science to do A level and is convinced she’s blown it. She’s so stressed and upset and I don’t know what to tell her 😔

northender · 17/05/2018 12:46

"Harder than biology" is all I've had from ds about the Chemistry paper (Edexel I think). He has 4 exams this week, 4 next week, then after half term 5 & 5 so a good even spread.
He plays cricket and so has time out once a week for training, once to go to the gym & then one or two matches at weekends. We were planning to limit it more but after all the health problems it is actually a great outlet for him, has lifted his mood and is a brilliant incentive. He can only play if he goes to bed at x time, gets up at a set time and does a certain amount of study in the time he has.

Sostenueto · 17/05/2018 12:49

Sorry to hear that captainblackadder just tell her you love her no matter what and maybe it isn't as bad as she thinks. Tell her she will be able to make it up on paper 2 and tell her she's a little Star Flowers

Sostenueto · 17/05/2018 12:50

Seems reasonable to me northender

AlexanderHamilton · 17/05/2018 12:53

This is all double Dutch to me but apparently the syllabus says they need to know the difference between the models but only the proof for Rutherford not Chadwick or Bohr.
