Bluebelle I suspect that the shambolic experience is not unconnected with the anecdote from yesterday...

Morning all and good luck for Chemstry (and anything else).
The impossiblegirl that's great news.
callitwhatyouwill that's really horrible for your dad, girls can be vile (boys have other issues!). I hope she can rise above it.

cubscout · 17/05/2018 07:18

I mean of course you dd, bloody autocorrect!

sandybayley · 17/05/2018 07:18

We're up and about as well. DS has been doing some therapeutic pencil sharpening and put some aftershave on (sure that will make a difference).

Once again in a good mood - very strange given he's been grumpy for most of the last year. Dare I say it. I think he has a sense of purpose?

Chemistry this AM and Latin after lunch.

beenrumbled · 17/05/2018 07:29

BlueBelle Shock

beenrumbled · 17/05/2018 07:37

sandybayley Aftershave? What'y your secret????

I still struggle to get DS to shower, never mind shave! (and have to remind him to use deodorant!!!)

DS should have cricket training tonight, but I think he will give it a miss for once.

This weekend, on Saturday he has English Lit revision in school, then he is refereeing 2 football cup finals, then playing a seniors cricket match on Sunday - not sure how much revision will get done this weekend. Confused

EllenJanethickerknickers · 17/05/2018 07:46

DS3 is off to his dad's today for the weekend so I won't get proper feedback from chemistry or computer science. Maybe a quick text, saying they 'went well' * see yesterday. Grin

Good luck to everyone today. I'm off on a school trip to Drayton Manor Park. Joy!

EllenJanethickerknickers · 17/05/2018 07:50

I'm with you with the persuading them to shower, wear deodorant and TBH, change their underwear! What he needs is a girlfriend. Wink

mmzz · 17/05/2018 07:52

When year 11 started, I never thought that the worst bit would be from the end of the exams to August 23, but, for me, I think the waiting is going to be the hardest part.

With an hour to go to the exams, DS and I have just argued. He asked me to test him on the CGP q&a. He consistently gets 2/3, 3/4, 5/6 etc because he always misses the first mark. I pointed this out and he said it's too obvious to be worth saying. Then I pointed out to him that I am not the mark scheme and there's no point trying to argue with me about the mark scheme. It's the immovable object that he gas to mould himself too. He's currently speaking to me in monosyllabic answers.

So a good way to send him off for an important exam..

ellen Girlfriend??? That would mean lest football/cricket/refereeing/FIFA 18 time!!!!!!

JugglingMummyof2 · 17/05/2018 07:57

Oh mmzz - some times it is impossible to do the 'right' thing.
DD is so nervous - worse that any other exam to date for Chemistry today. She really wants to do well and is putting herself under tons of pressure.
Good luck to them all.

sandybayley · 17/05/2018 08:00

The voluntary showering is a very new phenomenon and the aftershave a revelation. Of course he shaves about once a fortnight and there is nothing there. DSis bought the aftershave (Paul Smith) for him and I think he is trying to emulate his university attending cool cousins.

Makes a change from the pungent smell of eau de lynx.

Sending best wishes to all DC today. If I knew any Latin I'd send you an inspirational quote.

RosieLig · 17/05/2018 08:01

Good luck to everyone today. Chemistry has always been my son’s weakest subject. He’s had a tutor for all of last year so hopefully he’ll pass and even get a half decent mark. He’s doing the Trilogy. Relaxed as ever this morning. Most of the time I despair at how relaxed he is (ie lazy!) but I’m quite glad the morning of an exam Grin

wineoclockthanks · 17/05/2018 08:03

Didn't realise how nervous DS was for his chemistry today until he insisted on leaving so early that he's just texted at 7.45 to say he's already at school!
Not sure my nerves can take this for the next 4 weeks.

Cherryburn · 17/05/2018 08:12

We had a slightly stressful start to the day in that DS couldn't find any of the numerous school ties I have bought/he has 'acquired' over the years. He's clearly been taking them off post-exams then leaving them wherever he has happened to put them down. He lost his blazer 2 weeks ago and that's never turned up. So he's now down to a pair of charcoal trousers and white shirts as his 'uniform'. Hopefully they're cutting the Y11s some slack-ordinarily he'd have had detentions by now. I'm certainly not buying a new blazer for the remainder of Y11-he won't be wearing one in sixth form.

JufusMum · 17/05/2018 08:17

Callit teenage girls are bitches. Chemistry today. Not sure how much revision went on with face timing her best friend who is at another school. She's doing combined though so I said revision should be equal for all three sciences x

TheSecondOfHerName · 17/05/2018 08:18

Good luck to all the DCs taking Chemistry.

The Chemistry memes have already started appearing on twitter, and the exam hasn't even started yet.

TawnyPippit · 17/05/2018 08:24

Chemistry here too today, and I know DS is not looking forward to it. He is doing Double Science, so I told him he just needs to be really solid in this and hopefully the other two subjects will help him out. He has one of those teachers who lives and breathes Chemistry and can't really understand why others don't, so I suspect he is very inspiring for the top end students and just completely baffling for the others. Ho hum.

DS is free of exams from lunchtime today through to Monday morning which is great. He's looking tired I think. I've told him the priorities for the weekend were sleep, high quality revision and some physical activity. He's going to go to the gym this afternoon I think (plus Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon), which is a great idea.

LooseAtTheSeams · 17/05/2018 08:29

Sandy weirdly DS has been a lot more positive this week - I wonder if it's relief that they can finally get exams done?! He's even quite cheerful this morning.
Good luck to everyone doing exams today - I think that's chemistry, computing and Latin? Apologies if I've missed one!
I'm glad people have had good experiences of tutoring!
I can post some tips on doing the AQA English language papers if anyone's interested?

Changebagsandgladrags · 17/05/2018 08:30

Good luck for Chemistry. Next year I'll be teaching it (hopefully not to GCSE though as I am a physicist)

LooseAtTheSeams · 17/05/2018 08:30

Cherry same here with blazer - doesn't fit and I refuse to buy one for three weeks!

sandybayley · 17/05/2018 08:32

@LooseAtTheSeams - I think it's a relief for them to be getting on with it now. We have a ceremonial crossing off of each exam when he gets home and a running countdown of how many to. 16 now, 14 by the end of the day.

tiredand44 · 17/05/2018 08:33

@Teenmum60 I could have written your last post myself! I have exactly the same situation after 15 years. He's pushing DS to play in cricket matches and go to training, telling him to ignore me, exams aren't important...didn't do him any harm not having any etc! He's incredibly controlling too and has put DS into such a hard situation.

TheSecondOfHerName · 17/05/2018 08:34

I tried some Chemistry puns on DS2 this morning but I think I was bohring him.

sandybayley · 17/05/2018 08:34

@Cherryburn - DS split his trousers yesterday running for the bus. He's now in a pair of DH work trousers and shirt.

Need to buy him a suit for 6th form. It might make me cry. I wept the first time I saw him in cricket whites (aged 7).
