Youngest text me in a flap today. He missed off the last sheet of questions of his edexcel chemistry as he just didn’t see it. I am buying Chinese takeaway to console him. Every cloud, eh? Hmm

brainmelt · 17/05/2018 18:18

All over The Student Room everyone agreeing the Chemistry Igcse Edexcel paper was the hardest they've seen of all the past papers. They're freaking out.
oddsocks that's so healthy for her.

beenrumbled · 17/05/2018 18:35

DS said that AQA triple science chemistry was ok. He seemed fairly confident again. He muttered that if paper t2o was like that he thinks they will raise the boundaries again.

@Brainmelt - Dd stated it was the wording on some questions and I think I am correct in thinking they also had to design their own experiment and reverse it back from a given stage (vague). Hopefully, low-grade boundary.

Not sure what we will do over half term- DD will have 8 exams left - 4 the week after HT including History (which is a really weak subject) and all the science highers the week after. We have a family lunch arranged for one Sunday delayed celebration for DD's birthday.

Sofabitch · 17/05/2018 19:03

D'S felt chemistry (aqa triple) went well. He said it was about the same as biology

slinkyme · 17/05/2018 19:05

Fingers crossed for a lower grade boundary for edexcel igcse chem. we too giving in for a Chinese tonight after the week we have all had. Will have to park all the healthy eating till tomorrow.

I too got 8As and 1B for GCSEs but a couple of years later. I remember i didn't get as high a mention on the school newsletter like the Girl who got the 9. I let it go once the A level results came in 😩.

slinkyme · 17/05/2018 19:07

6 more exams before half term and DD will definitely be switching off for a bit. I have told her no revision tonight as she is ready for French tomorrow plus it's not till the afternoon.

Sostenueto · 17/05/2018 19:08

Yes exactly what my dgd said alexander and exactly how she answered. Dgd didn't say much, just one question which was a bit of a poser and added I tried my best answered all to my best ability and I said that's all anyone asks of you then we tucked into our chinky yum yum!Grin

Sostenueto · 17/05/2018 19:13

Will drag dgd out bank holiday along with her mum who doesn't have to work that weekend. Otherwise dgd will be revising of her own free will. Cannot wait to see her face and whole demeanour get back to normal and a smile on her face to brighten our lives once these wretched exams are over.Sad

Stickerrocks · 17/05/2018 19:17

DD had a bit of a cry after chemistry as she was disappoi Ted with some of the calculations. Her teacher told her that if she had found it hard, she should imagine how others were feeling. The school therapy dog is working overtime.

I was the last year to do O levels, quite possibly at Snozzle's DD's school. I did 2 early and ended up with 3 A,s 7 B.s. & 3Cs. Two others got 14, so my grades were the 3rd best in the year. You had to be exceptional to get more than a few As.

sandybayley · 17/05/2018 19:26

@Stickerrocks that was the same year as my DSis and she got similarish grades.

Goes to show how our DC should only be compared with DC in the same cohort. I know people will inevitably compare with previous years but the only fair comparison is with those who say the same exams at the same time.

mmzz · 17/05/2018 19:27

Stickerrocks if it's any consolation to your DD, DS said that most of his top set chemistry class couldn't do the calculation questions either. He said they all did a post exam analysis with each other and many couldn't even understand the answer, never mind be able to do it themselves.

That's good snozzle :) Looks like AQA has confirmed it too :)

EllenJanethickerknickers · 17/05/2018 19:35

Catching up, just back from Drayton Manor Park. My goodness that pirate ship is evil!

DS3 texted to say both exams (as always, sigh) went well! He said Chemistry AQA triple was really good and that OCR computer science was quick to answer. Most of them finished it all with a lot of time to spare. Makes me worried that they didn't answer the questions in enough depth. Didn't say so to him, though.

He's with his dad this weekend so I don't have any detail. No exams now until Monday. I can only hope his confidence is well founded.

Sounds like a pretty decent day for most of you. Early night for me, lots of sun and a long coach ride has tired me out.

goodbyestranger · 17/05/2018 19:37

stickerrocks which board was that?

Also, look at this poor therapy dog - she's had enough too:

EllenJanethickerknickers · 17/05/2018 19:39

I did O levels in 1981. Out of a year group of 240, top got 8 As and 1 B, second got 6As and 3 Bs and third (me) got 4As and 5 Bs. They were the top 3 results. Only 4 out of that year went to university.

burnoutbabe · 17/05/2018 19:40

I did an exam today, for interest in the subject. Me and one lad 1 hour in and a mobile went off! Invigilator asked if we had our phones on us, we both said no. It was the invigilators! Did find it amusing.

Stickerrocks · 17/05/2018 19:43

Edexcel. DD is predicted an 8 for maths, but couldn't work them out.

So glad my exam days are over.

AlwaysHiding · 17/05/2018 19:52

Signing off for a few days here. Things have got a bit much for both DD and I, so we’re using the time to recharge and clear our heads.

Thinking of you all. Flowers

EllenJanethickerknickers · 17/05/2018 19:56

Have a good break, Always and your DD. Hope you are both feeling better next week.

slinkyme · 17/05/2018 19:59

Thanks for you Always

snozzlemaid · 17/05/2018 20:01

stickerocks I was a year behind you then. I was first year to do GCSEs. Also took 2 a year early so I have 2 O levels and the rest are GCSEs.

My results were nowhere near as good as the rest of you. All Cs apart from 2 Bs.
