How much revision are your DCs doing now that the exams are underway? DS worked until 9 last night, which is what he's been doing since the start of the term.

Ps Insomnia- have been awake since 1am. Hate it.

Insomnia here too mmzz - up since 4 in my case. I am not consciously aware of being worried about dd's exams but I guess the sleeplessness says otherwise

DD now doing a maximum of a couple of hours per day either before an afternoon exam or after a morning exam. I won't let her revise past 6.30pm in the evening - but then she has been on study leave for the past couple of weeks and isn't at school apart from exams = so can revise fully during the day time.

hmcAsWas · 15/05/2018 05:51
  • not = (the sleep deprivation is showing)
Oratory1 · 15/05/2018 05:54

Did an hour last night after two long exams (2 hours and 2 1/2 hours). But on the exam days where he doesn’t have an exam the next day and is revising or in lessons during the day I think he will take the evenings off. It’s a long old slog.

hmcAsWas · 15/05/2018 05:58

It is a long old slog, and I know that I have to be careful that dd doesn't burn herself out. If she gets too strung out and overwhelmed she will down tools and not do any more!

Cherryburn · 15/05/2018 06:06

DS working still working till 9 so far. He has by far his busiest week next week though (6 exams) and is at that point where there just don't seem to be enough hours in the day to fit everything in. E.g. he'd like to do a bit of maths every day ideally but can't find the time. No exams tomorrow or Friday though, so at least that frees things up a bit.

Sostenueto · 15/05/2018 06:14

I ccant sleep either cos I'm worried about dgd. Silly really I know but I hate to see her and all DC so stressed and miserable. I know they are not little DC but I still think they should be happy.Sad. Works till 9 pm here too. Too much IMO. Sod Gove.

hmcAsWas · 15/05/2018 06:15

I agree about trying to do maths every day (and with there not being enough time to fit everything in). I've said to dd - even if you do just 15-20 mins of maths revision each day (she only wants to revise the subject for the next up and coming exam) that's at least something

hmcAsWas · 15/05/2018 06:17

Sod Gove indeed!

They'll be okay. Over soon - but yes its hell seeing so much pressure on such young shoulders

Stickerrocks · 15/05/2018 06:28

Yesterday was a funny day, as half of DD'S class were in their computer science exam in the morning, then they all had RS in the afternoon. They had to focus on maths in maths, then geography let them do RS if they didn't disturb the ones working on geography. DD didn't stay for after school revision yesterday and met me after work before going to work herself for an hour. I'd say she probably did around 2-3 hours of biology, aggravated DH for a bit & went to bed. Today will be the same again, just with a later tennis session in the evening instead of coaching.

I don't think DD needs bribing with cash for results (back to last week's debate). I think she is being pampered enough with a regular stream of treats. DH is downstairs heating the oven for a pain au choc at the moment & I have to go to Hollister at lunchtime to fetch a strappy dress (although she has paid). I do wish publishers wouldn't issue new books she wants right in the middle of May.

beenrumbled · 15/05/2018 06:30

How did everyone sleep?

I've been awake since 5.

DS was still awake at 11 last night, but was out cold when i went to wake him.

It's his birthday today, 3 GCSES - what a present!

Good luck today everyone !

Stickerrocks · 15/05/2018 06:31

Happy birthday babybeen. Well here we all are....

Parky04 · 15/05/2018 06:36

Joined this thread a bit late. DS has first exam today which is biology. He doesn't enjoy science but has revised to be fair to him.

Good luck to everyone's DC today.

Sostenueto · 15/05/2018 06:41

Dgd is going to ring me at 7 for a prep talk as she calls it.Smile today was supposed to be a lay in for me. Hmm but I believe we are all suffering with insomnia so at least I belong to an elite groupGrin.
I went to docs appointment yesterday, trouble was it was the wrong day! And I went and got petrol, put it in before I realised I didn't have my purse with me! Blush At least my mishaps made dgd grin even if briefly. She said she was glad she wasn't the only one losing it! Dd chimed in saying I lost it ages ago!Grin at the garage I pleaded exam stress as excuse for forgeting purse. In reality I was having a craft moment.....Can't Remember A F...... Thing!Grin

Sostenueto · 15/05/2018 06:43

Happy birthday babybeanCakeStarBear

Stickerrocks · 15/05/2018 06:46

Morning Parky you can safely ignore all the debate about which RS paper was which yesterday then.

Good job you're awake now then Sost.i think you should ring DGD now, just to make sure she's up!

Sostenueto · 15/05/2018 06:51

Biology though not the hardest science the sheer volume of information they have to know compared to say chemistry is staggering. Dgd taking A level biology as she likes the subject, well the human side anyway. I wanted her to take chemistry too as she finds that science a lot easier but it clashed with geography and she won't give geography up. At end of day its her decision even when she was crying over biology the other day.
So good luck to all today our DC are all Star and I wish the very best to all of them and to you their loving parents, family, carers, guardians etc.Flowers

Sostenueto · 15/05/2018 06:56

Morning stickerocks! Yes they get up at 5.30 am did day off and is walking to station with Dgd in a minute. They both run round like headless chickens in the morning so not good to interrupt them. Dgd will ring me on way to station in about 5 mins. I took dog out at 5 am in my PJs ( being a chav) and came back and currently back in bed with cuppa.

Teenmum60 · 15/05/2018 06:57

Happy birthday to your DS beenrumbled.

DD tends to revise until 8 pm but she tends to be more laid back between 6-8pm generally just reading a revision guide. When I spoke with her on the phone I think she'd spent most of yesterday revising Biology (she was home at 10.45am after CS exam). No exams tomorrow so at least she can top up revision for Chemistry and CS paper2 exams..oddly enough she tends to do better on paper 2 of Chemistry than paper 1 but hoping Tassomai has made a difference.

Hope she is OK with hayfever today and remembers her inhaler..

Cherryburn · 15/05/2018 07:09

DS has abandoned Tassomai, probably permanently. With the exams coming thick and fast now he felt that his time would be better spent on other things. Plus he was getting increasingly frustrated at the fact that towards the end the wheel was hardly moving!

It definitely did its job though; he scored very high marks in the last few practice papers he's done in Biology and Chemistry (he didn't use it for Physics) so the detail appears to have stuck. And he also finds the paper 2s easier Teen. He says he'll just do past papers for those exams as he'll have plenty of time over half term and the following week.

JufusMum · 15/05/2018 07:13

Good luck to all DC's today. Just Biology here. DD is currently listening to some kind of Biology tutorial on YouTube whilst getting dressed.

sandybayley · 15/05/2018 07:13

Morning everyone! Biology this afternoon so DS1 is having a bit of a lie in. I'm working from home so will make sure he gets up!

He's working quite late everyday - typically about 9.30 or so. Although he did watch Westworld last night with DH.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 15/05/2018 07:18

Dd worked until 9pm last night and only stopped doing tassomai because her computer crashed. That was after an 8am revision class, 2 exams and an after school biology revision class until 5.45.

She won't do that every day though. I'm hoping it will calm down after Thursday's CS exam.

sost I'm very impressed with how clued up you are with your dgds exams. My ex mil texted dd LAST Monday to say good luck. My mum phoned last night to say good luck for her first exam today. When I pointed out she'd done two earlier thst day she was all confused until it transpired she thought it was Sunday yesterday Grin

Mind you at least they both meant well. Her dad hasn't been in touch at all Confused
