DH has a geography degree. He could choose whether to be BA or BSc, specialised in human geography, so no science overlap whatsoever, and has the BA. Quite a lot of statistics involved. Meanwhile DBiL is a professor of environmental science and hasn't had anything to do with geography since GCSE. He seems to specialise in how things grow on mountains!

Teen hope all goes well with DD. My DD has constant back pain that we can't get to the root of & it's very draining.

Sostenueto · 21/02/2018 20:27

Teen hope all gets better for your DC soon!Flowers
Stickerocks dgd loves physical geography more than human so would specialise in physical, geology, volcanology etc. We have had a discussion on whether she does geography degree or neuro science. She really is not quite sure hence doing both geography, biology and then psychology with the math to see which she prefers.

Sostenueto · 21/02/2018 20:33

Teenmum push doctor for blood tests and try and get dd referred to pain specialist or similar. Keep worrying doctor till you get some satisfaction in a diagnosis.

drummersmum · 21/02/2018 20:53

yay loose well done to your DS for finishing composition #2!

drummers Grin thanks, that is a great picture!
Teen Thanks for your poor dd - hope you get it sorted soon.

Teenmum60 · 21/02/2018 21:29

Thank you - Dd's in good spirits - looking through old school books etc and commenting how much her writing has improved.
I'm going to phone GP tomorrow ...Its been a year since we saw the Pediatrician with the Hypermobility. We (& GP) thought allot of the leg pain was down to hormones (she did have rapid growth last year) but she's getting severe pains in neck (happened a few times) and yesterday was the hip...and the rash has appeared twice now (I know she's sensitive to allot of things -we have to be careful with hair/washing powders and perfume products). The problem with Hypermobility is that the symptoms seem to get worse from 14 years onward...I think blood and allergy tests are probably needed now too....

Teenmum60 · 21/02/2018 21:32

Well done to your DS Loose ! I listened to some of DD's friends compositions the other week and one of them was amazing it was a Piano/Violin duo - these kids are so talented.

KingscoteStaff · 21/02/2018 21:40

A Level choices need to be in tomorrow. DS keeps making a decision, walking upstairs, walking back downstairs and saying ‘On the OTHER hand...’

Teenmum60 · 21/02/2018 21:43

Sostenueto - Great for your DD....someone posted it on the forum...I also know someone studying Maths/Economics at Pembroke College if your DD gets a place and needs any assistance

Teenmum60 · 21/02/2018 21:46

Oh dear - Kingscotestaff

DD's biology teacher asked whether any of her class were taking Biology at A Level and all but 2 put their hands up ...There are 5 sets so the Biology uptake could be very high ...

Sostenueto · 22/02/2018 06:28

Thank you teenmum for linkFlowers

mmzz · 22/02/2018 20:26

If I counted correctly, the first GCSEs are only 12 weeks away. It is beginning to seem more real now.

Think its either R.E or art first (can't remember). Today dgd had a biology end of unit test, an eng lit test on romeo and Juliet and a end if unit geography test. I suppose its another form of revision.Shock

Sostenueto · 22/02/2018 21:05

Its creeping closer and closer mmzz and I darent ask how revisions going. I know dgd was doing art tonight. ( sigh)

Stickerrocks · 22/02/2018 21:10

DD has been asked to apply for the Pembroke thingy. It has to be in by Tuesday, doesn't it. I've told her she has to go to work then, so she should let someone go who actually wants to take sciences at A level.

Sostenueto · 22/02/2018 21:16

What's the Pembroke thingy stickerocks?

Sostenueto · 22/02/2018 21:18

Lol! Stickerocks yes the link I forgot its called that!

Sostenueto · 22/02/2018 21:31

We applied but don't think we stand a chance with only 30 places.

Sostenueto · 22/02/2018 21:40

Also it says at least 2 sciences so if they class geography or maths as a science we will be OK. Also they don't do geography at Pembroke college.

😲

DS2 found out today that he did well in the intermediate maths challenge; he got a gold certificate and is through to the Olympiad. This is good for his confidence, and if he does well in the senior challenge next year it'll be something he could mention in his personal statement.

mmzz · 22/02/2018 22:06

That's really good, TheSecond. Is he going to fit in several hours of preparation?
I'd have thought that it would be worth mentioning on the personal statement anyway?

TheSecondOfHerName Well done to your DS thats a great booster...

I think DD's first exam is her Oral in about 10 weeks time (30/4).

Sostenueto Your daughter is doing triple science so she should be fine with Pembroke ...

Sostenueto · 23/02/2018 02:18

Excellent thesecondofhername! I bet your so proud! Good luck for Olympiad!CakeFlowers

BlueBelle123 · 23/02/2018 07:00

thesecond well done to your DS, that's a huge confidence booster.

Kingscote what A level choices did your DS decide on?

It definitely does feel like the exams are rapidly approaching especially as English has finished and are now on revision lessons, which has worked out really well as for some reason DS does not revise English!!!!!

TheSecondOfHerName · 23/02/2018 09:22

Is he going to fit in several hours of preparation?

The Olympiad is in 3 weeks. The style of questions is quite different from GCSE Maths, so I've printed out last year's paper for him to look at.

His biggest challenge is going to be writing legibly and presenting his solutions neatly (unlike the first round, this is not multiple choice).

They're not allowed calculators, protractors or squared paper.
