Hi Does anyone know how many sat the 10+ exam this year for Kingston Grammar and when you can expect to be called back for an interview? Thank you

KGS scholarship exam was yesterday. Weren’t expecting to be doing that. Was, um, v difficult, said DC. Most DCs looked a little daunted by the experience, though KGS staff/pupils were lovely.

Re 11+ interview. It didn't say on the email which type it is. Would they have said, or do we need to wait for the email with the appointment time? Thanks.

derivaz · 13/01/2018 12:53

Wow, I bet it was tough Clueless! Brilliant to have made it to taking it though, regardless of whether or not your D.C. is successful. Was it subject specific?

Clueless01 · 13/01/2018 14:40

Sounds like some were sitting both Eng and Maths and others one paper but not the other. About 30-40 in all, think mix of 10-plus and 11-plus.

derivaz · 13/01/2018 14:56

It says on the website that everyone who passes the 10+ goes through to scholarship exam, but not until the year of entry. So all who took it would be for 2018 entry.
I have been so impressed with how the staff have managed the process.

nononsencemum · 14/01/2018 11:44

I never got that far as to look into the scholarship process. I just somehow naively assumed that the top percentage gets it based on the entrance exam results only. I didn't realised they would have to sit yet another exam... It makes sense now since how does one compare the exam results for 10+ and 11+. oh dear...
How many academic scholarships have been awarded in the previous years and what percentage of the fee is it (thinking it does not quite change ones lifestyle :-))?

No idea. Entirely discretionary, I guess. Can’t imagine it would be life changing, though. I’m sure I’ll continue to consume excessive amounts of coffee/chocolate regardless. More worried about having bungled the second test so badly they start to question what DC did in the first one!

nocampinghere · 14/01/2018 17:21

10-20% typically at KGS i believe, so no not life changing!

nononsencemum · 14/01/2018 21:21

Clueless you seriously made me laugh with your comment :-) part of an appeal of KGS are down to earth mums! :-)

Nocampinghere you can get a decent amount of wine/ chocolate/ coffee for 10-20% knock off fees! Grin

I will need a lot of chocolate to dunk in my wine with this process!
Does anybody know what date they are doing the 11+ interviews?

helloallllllll · 15/01/2018 13:14

11+ interviews are this Saturday morning but another school not far away has their exam this Saturday so we are going to get another date/time but don't know when yet!

Richmond001 · 15/01/2018 13:37

Hi, could anyone who hears about 10+ please let us know...
thanks all for the updates :)

derivaz · 16/01/2018 09:43

Another day praying for the phone to ring and the postie not to come.... dairy milk anyone? X

helloallllllll · 16/01/2018 09:53

We haven't had a date/time for the 11+ interview yet so I think they'll probably try and get those all sorted first.
If I remember we didn't hear about the 10+ until the end of the week last year so you may have a bit longer to wait! Good Luck!

Sunshine5050 · 16/01/2018 10:07

If you are expecting a letter for 10plus I think it's very unlikely you will get anything before Friday. The 11plus sports scholarship try out had to be cancelled due to the rain yesterday and moved to tomorrow & we are all waiting for the interview times for this Saturday.

derivaz · 16/01/2018 12:09

Ah ok, will try to chill then. I don’t want a letter. Letters mean ‘no’,we want a phone call. 😉

Richmond001 · 16/01/2018 12:23

Must try to chill, must try to chill [repeat after me].... LOL

jkhj · 16/01/2018 12:42

Hi everyone,
I’m joining you all in trying to chill. Keep telling myself we only did it for the feedback and experience. DD is from a state school and loved the experience of the test- I did not. The chocolate, popcorn and juice at the test were major plus point for her. I’m glad she enjoyed it and I will go back to ‘chilling’! 😉 good luck everyone

Greenleave · 16/01/2018 13:04

We took the 10+ test too and also from state school and foolish us only started VR very recently hence a massive screw up with VR(didnt know there were 80 questions for 50mins for example as we never did a paper before). Exam technique is also an issue when she just left the unanswered questions blank when she was struggling with others. It was a very dearly lesson. Unfortunately we are now dealing with my husband potential major operation/treatment so that takes all our minds off 11+ and anything else in the mean time. Shit time of the year for us and especially for her.

derivaz · 16/01/2018 16:52

SO sorry to hear this Greenleave. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate. I really hope that things go well with the op and your DH makes a speedy recovery. Xx

nononsencemum · 16/01/2018 17:14

Nothing from our side either all day today. MUST TRY not to loose my phone MUST TRY not to loose my mind GrinHalo

Hi Greenleave, its things like this that put everything into perspective. I truly understand what you must be going through. I too recently had major surgery and horrible treatment... whilst going through this I told myself all I want for the children is for them to be happy and resilient, as life has s funny way of hitting you when you least expect it. Hope all goes well for your husband and you all. X

jkhj · 16/01/2018 17:39

Keep ‘chilling’- no loosing phone or mind allowed 😀

Sunshine5050 · 16/01/2018 18:43

I've heard 800 dc sat the 11plus and they are inviting 300 to interview on Saturday or the back up date next week so I think the 10plus letters/phones calls are going to be late as the 11plus interview times have yet to be sent.

helloallllllll · 16/01/2018 18:58

Sunshine- you don't happen to know the back up day do you?.
