11 plus done.....now it's the waiting game to see if dd's passed. Anyone else feeling a bit stressed?

I thought I'd feel great that it's all done, but I think I feel a bit worse now! DD came out of both tests feeling happy and that she'd done really well on one and pretty well on the other but you can't tell can you? I just worry that if she's not passed she will feel like a failure when she's never felt like that before. She also really loves the grammar school and will be so disappointed if she doesn't get in.

We have the (very lucky) puzzle of trying to decide if the grammar is the most desirable option. Test sat to keep options open but DC still very unsure. We have a good (and closer) comp. The way allocation distances work here whatever we put first is what we get.

BroomstickOfLove · 03/10/2017 14:22

I grew up in a full grammar/secondary modern system and went to a grammar school. I now live in a city with no grammar schools and excellent comprehensives. DD is in Y6 now, and we are going round open evenings and getting ready to fill in application forms. DD is a high academic achiever, and I'm very glad to live in a comprehensive area. I don't think she's missing out on the slightest.

Perigord · 03/10/2017 14:22

No one in dc's year went to a "bog standard" comp either. They are all quite good.

Dixiechickonhols · 03/10/2017 14:29

Perigold By bog standard I mean i.e not faith or academy. Not sure what correct term is community school?

Community Comprehensive in new area is good and plenty of DC 'like mine' go. I liked it when we looked around. Not so for the ones in old town.

TeenTimesTwo · 03/10/2017 15:11

Thanks, interesting. Often on the more heated debate threads on this topic it is difficult to tell as you have people who went to grammar 30 years ago debating with people who didn't 30 years ago.

Hope all your DCs end up with a school they thrive in. Smile

14th for us.....am also finding this wait between exam and results more unbearable than the year of preparation leading up to it. Keep on hearing scare stories (which are actually true) like high birth rate year, more local housing built and an extra 250 kids sitting the exam this year compared to previous years. It's not the end of the world if she doesn't pass, but she wants to go where her brother is. And for me the prospect of dealing with 3 schools rather than just 2 is very daunting Confused.
We're in catchment so that's a bonus, bug with the increased number of applicants I think the base mark pass percentage will have been raised too.

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/10/2017 06:52

Yes the wait us awful.had weird dream last night where we got 119 and all her friends passed and we had to faff about appealing..

So now I'm hoping if she doesn't pass it's a significant amount of points as I don't think between that and allocation day I can take it.. Blush

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 04/10/2017 07:03

I have been microanalysing the top table allocations - why is x on there and y isn't. Was the split made before or after the school found out the 11 plus scores. Insanity here we come! Veering more towards thinking she hasn't passed but have no real evidence. Wait will be even worse next time as ds has his heart set on a super selective, not that he has even seen it yet.

MedusaBadHairDay · 04/10/2017 07:32

Ours isn't a super selective thankfully - but it is a good school. I was dubious about sending ds initially as i thought it would be high pressure, loads of homework but the last two years have been an absolute joy for him. He's made loads of friends, is enjoying all his subjects and is thriving. He bumped along at primary, not interested in football, no real group of friends, not really being pushed as he achieved without much effort. Dd is different, she works hard and has a wide group of friends, generally happy wherever she is. The local comp is great, but we have plenty of inaccessible faith schools of all denominations which are excellent in themselves - though we haven't a chance - and quite a few schools that aren't worth even considering unfortunately. So two options - one if she doesn't get a pass next Saturday.

Mumski45 · 04/10/2017 14:15

Good luck to everyone waiting. I was in this position this time last year and will be again next year so I know how it feels.
DS came out of his test distraught and tearful convinced he didn’t do well enough. However he got in and has had a fabulous start over the last month.

Live4theday · 09/10/2017 07:40

Results week! Feel like this week is going to drag! Just wish we knew now so we could start making plans. We have only looked around one comp which my daughter wasn’t keen on ( it is the best one in our area!). The grammar school open days are next week, fingers crossed for everyone wanting for Kent or Medway results.

MedusaBadHairDay · 09/10/2017 10:58

Live4theday I'm just glad this weekend has gone past relatively quickly. It's possible we may get our letter on Friday - but t has generally been the Saturday or Monday in previous years. Got lots on this week so will be kept busy Grin hoping that helps the time fly too! It's the not knowing that gets me.....I like having things sorted and dealt with. If I know she's got a place I'll be happy, if not then the only thing that concerns me is the long wait till March 1st allocations day....roll on this weekend!

believebelievebelieve · 09/10/2017 15:11

The wait is awful. In my area they post results on Friday and we get them Saturday. I keep thinking they must know them by now and wishing they'd just send an email. At least if we know one way or the other we can deal with it! Dd is absolutely convinced she's passed and I'm dreading how she will cope if she hasn't. I keep telling her it doesn't matter, things happen for a reason etc, but she looks at me like I'm mad and tells me she knows she's passed so I feel guilty for doubting her. Thing is I'm sure most of the dc think they've passed!

bellabelly · 09/10/2017 15:24

So glad I've found this thread! Waiting for 4pm Thursday - apparently Kent email the results then so don't need to wait for the postman. Will just be checking my inbox obsessively... My nightmare scenario is one DT passes and the other doesn't.

believebelievebelieve · 09/10/2017 17:23

Oh my that really is stressful bella. Massive good luck to your DTs. That has put my worrying a bit more in perspective x

rhiane13 · 09/10/2017 20:28

Hope you don't mind if I join you, I am going crazy with this wait!
We're due one result this Friday and the other no date has been released yet but some are saying the 16th? (Bucks & Berks)
DS was very confident with both exams but then so were 90% of the other children!
I have convinced myself that he hasn't passed!

MedusaBadHairDay · 09/10/2017 20:45

Oh gosh bellabelly I would totally have lost any remaining marbles if I had to go through this with twins!!! I wish our Grammar would email rather than having to wait for the post. We're always last on the delivery round on our street so all her friends will know hours before her.

Taffeta · 09/10/2017 22:26

Bella - the email from Kent came after the result was available online both times for me. Make sure you have your log in details to hand and then refresh furiously!

Chocolatecake12 · 09/10/2017 22:38

I’m waiting for the Kent test result too on Thursday. It’s been a long wait so far and now this week is here I wish Thursday would hurry up.
Ds came out of the test saying that the maths was easy but that the rest was hard and he doesn’t think he’s passed. We’ve been to look at the local comp and we liked it so that’s a bonus!
I’m nervous about opening the email and telling him he’s not passed. I’m so worried about how he will feel. He has an Older brother at grammar school so the pressures been on to be the same as his brother.

bellabelly · 09/10/2017 22:59

I've been hanging around on the Kent bit of the eleven plus forum and apparently today someone just asked their school receptionist and was given the results for her son!

Thanks for all the sympathy - I am trying not to stress too much as I don't want my boys to pick up on stressy vibes (not sure they even know that it's results day this week) but it's so, so hard - am just feeling very impatient and a bit resentful that they're keeping us waiting for no good reason...

bellabelly · 09/10/2017 23:01

@Taffeta - thanks, that's a great tip. Will try to log on from work - might be tricky as lots of perfectly harmless websites are blocked!

MedusaBadHairDay · 10/10/2017 06:26

I hope Thursday brings you all good news from Kent! I'm keeping my fingers crossed till Saturday in Lancashire Grin

BertrandRussell · 10/10/2017 06:30

My ds failed the 11+ and has just left his secondary modern with an excellent bunch of GCSEs and is thriving in a Grammar 6th form. So do try not to worry too much. Or to dispair if things don't turn out the way you hope.

MedusaBadHairDay · 10/10/2017 07:10

That doesn't worry me Betrand I just hate the not knowing!! Also life will be marginally easier dealing with 2 schools rather than 3, but that is by the by really. We've got other great schools on our back up list. But this is the school she wants.

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/10/2017 07:18

Thanks for bumping thread.

Good luck to the children of the new people who have posted.

Stuck waiting til Friday still. We need a miracle as we haven't really been impressed with the two schools we have seen. A good result would solve such massive problems...
