I thought I'd feel great that it's all done, but I think I feel a bit worse now! DD came out of both tests feeling happy and that she'd done really well on one and pretty well on the other but you can't tell can you? I just worry that if she's not passed she will feel like a failure when she's never felt like that before. She also really loves the grammar school and will be so disappointed if she doesn't get in.

Thank you Medusa and bella. With it being a school night, I have been very sensible and cracked open a bottle of wine relaxed with a cup of tea!

DD's grammar school used GL assessments in verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning and maths in their entrance exam, so I got the GL familiarisation packs for those areas. I used the familiarisation materials to get DD comfortable with the areas each paper could cover and also to get her used to sitting the tests under timed conditions.

I didn't get a tutor for her, but I know of quite a few parents who did. Whether you would need a tutor very much depends on which schools you are looking at and I would recommend looking at the eleven plus forum for additional advice that particularly relates to your area/schools of interest.

Found out today that DD has ‘reached the required standard and provisionally been allocated a place’ at our chosen grammar school. No information about her test score, which is a change to previous years. Nonetheless, DD is delighted and we are too!

Fabulous news, Malbec and Rue! Congratulations to your DC!

Still waiting to hear about DD’s results, but I’ve pretty much convinced myself they’ll arrive this weekend.

Hello,
Just want to confirm
If a child pass SET exams of both stages and live in a distance of 1 mile whereas another child who also passed both stages of exam and lives under 0.5 miles ,So who will get the priority on admissions criteria for nonsuch high school?

Regards ,

We got our results on Sat - we let DS open the letter himself. The most nerve wracking thing I've done in a long time. He passed but we decided to let him open it as he'd have to know either way if he'd failed. Good luck and commiserations to everyone. At least the exam is over now and we all know.

Oh no, Rue!

The waiting is torturous and that is a long wait. I’m hoping you get some very good news tomorrow.

We're 16 days after the test and counting - hoping we get the results via email tomorrow. It can't be much longer...surely!

Thank you.

The results are usually received 1 week after the test. However, the cynic in me thinks they’ll send them out this coming Friday as it’s half-term here next week - it would be one way to prevent the receptionists from having to field phone calls from many parents!

I feel your pain Bunnyjo it’s the waiting that’s the hardest part. I hope you get your news soon

I may lurk here whilst I bite my nails to the wick. DD sat our local grammar school entrance test 7th October and we should receive the results in the coming week.

There is only one grammar school in our county and there is no ‘pass’ mark; we will receive her standardised score and a generic information sheet as to previous years’ qualifying score ranges.

She appears to be quite stoic about it all, which is testament to her character. However, I’m nervous for the both of us!

Congratulations to everyone so far and I’m sorry to hear your DD didn’t quite get the pass mark, Giles. She sounds like a wonderful young girl and I truly hope you have a happy outcome on 1st March.

Bucks here and we had good news for DD. DS was also pleased that she passed but got a lower score than him - got to love sibling rivalry!
