So sorry for your DD Etaina Sad to miss out by such a small margin is awful. I hope her Insurance uni gets back to her quickly.

olliepolly · 17/08/2017 11:56

So relieved ,good news here, daughter going to Edinburgh for vet med.

Horsemad · 17/08/2017 11:57

Congrats ollie Smile

Etaina · 17/08/2017 11:59

Thanks everyone. It's so hard to know what to do if she doesn't get accepted by her insurance. Although she's interested in neuroscience, it was medicine that she really had her heart set on. She could retake Chemistry but she might not get an offer this year because there is only a handful of unis that accept retakes for medicine (I think only 4 she could apply to). Also, she's applying for a remark, so it would be awful to accept a place on Neuroscience course and then get remarked up to an A. Decisions, decisions...it's even harder when you are stressed and tired through lack of sleep.

Etaina · 17/08/2017 12:01

Congratulations Ollie. We're just back from a trip to Edinburgh and thought it would be a fabulous city to study in.

BehindTheBlueDoor · 17/08/2017 12:02

Feel for you Etaina. My DS missed his A in maths by 1UMS so were going for a remark.

tobee · 17/08/2017 12:05

Just woken up from doze to catch up. DS advice from school was stick with insurance if you like course and university. Which he did. But still not million % if he should go through clearing. Too much risk or worth a gamble???

tobee · 17/08/2017 12:09

Plus should he ring his firm which he missed by one grade? Can't see why not

Needmoresleep · 17/08/2017 12:12

Etiana, really think about a gap year. She can only apply to four places anyway, and was so close. There will be more places available next year. Plus she will have more experience and more maturity.

Also has she tried SGUL and Liverpool who have medicine in clearing?

DD is just finishing a gap year and has had a brilliant time. She is so glad she had a break before such a long course.

Plus a gap year will allow her to really think what she might like to do as an alternative, and where.

user9512736123 · 17/08/2017 12:14

Sheffield not budging on grades so that's the first NO from Clearing

After all they have said in the media over the last couple of days that's really not good. So much for their comments about grades! I wonder if they are on,y saying yes to people who registered early for clearing at Sheffield ?

LineysRun · 17/08/2017 12:18

He got into Reading - he's thrilled. Great course, accommodation available - were happy again Smile

Brilliant news Liney Smile All done in time for lunch and you can celebrate now Wine

FreedaDonkey · 17/08/2017 12:31

Great news Liney.

Tobee yes! Phone his firm and insurance, keep trying.

My friend's DD called her RG firm 10 times (honestly) last year and was told no. 11th time she got through to an admissions tutor who quizzed her a bit and then offered her a place.

Perseverance pays off

LineysRun · 17/08/2017 12:32

Thank you. I will indeed have a Wine

I hate that so many others are still in limbo. It's incredibly stressful.

teta · 17/08/2017 12:34

Well done to everyone who has gone well.
Commiserations to everyone elseWink.
We are unfortunately one of them.Dd didn't get in to either of her offers .She is having some papers remarked as they are right on the boundary and thinking about reapplying next year.Nearly all the medics/vets were unsuccessful this yearHmm.

Etaina · 17/08/2017 12:38

Does anyone know how often UCAS track updates the offers? Is it constantly updating or only at certain times of day?

Needmoresleep · 17/08/2017 12:39

Tera, having followed your DDs story, I am so sorry to hear this. Fingers crossed for the remarks.

And best wishes to everyone else still in limbo.

user9512736123 · 17/08/2017 13:01

Sorry Teta :(

tobee · 17/08/2017 13:08

Thanks Freeda. He phoned and they said no but I told him it was worth it just to say you tried. Track has updated acceptance for his insurance.

It's still a bit gloomy here which is compounded by knackeredness. It's pretty much of a shame because he's still done really well and liked his insurance. I want to lift the mood. He should still be celebrating but he can't see that right now. Sad

MirabelleTree · 17/08/2017 13:11

So sorry to hear that Teta

Etaina hopefully someone knows for sure but we had to get UCAS to reverse a rejection last year. The university rang to say they had just arranged it and it should be showing which it was, which gave me the impression it happens regularly.

bigTillyMint · 17/08/2017 13:28

Oh Teta Sad

Really mixed stories about Clearing from DDs friends. It will all come right in the end. Flowers

Horsemad · 17/08/2017 13:55

Glad your DS is sorted Liney Smile it's an emotional roller coaster isn't it? I am so glad I never have to go hrough that again!

Teta, sorry it is not good news for your DD, I hope the re-marks come good for her. If she takes a year out that may give her an edge if she has lots of good work exp to show for it.

Tobee, it was worth a try re ringing his firm but if he likes his Insurance he will be fine, I'm sure.

LineysRun · 17/08/2017 14:33

Thanks, Horsemad.

bebumba · 17/08/2017 15:06

Sorry to hear that teta. Hope the remarks go in her favour.
