Hi all. Keep in touch with uni offers, new jobs, gap years, exams, etc. We can get through his Grin

OP posts:
JugglingFromHereToThere · 17/08/2017 10:48

Good news here, more so on the offers than the results themselves. Basically we have two offers! But having just come back from a great two days of summer project work experience at Swansea DD has decided she wants to go for that one in marginal preference to Sheffield who have also somewhat surprisingly given her an offer.
So now trying to follow process to ask for release from firm and go with insurance choice instead, which I understand she needs to do through Clearing. They do have placed on offer there.
Frustratingly not having much success getting through to anyone, and I'm trying to give DD space to get on with the phone calls, but listening in from the sofa next door!
Basically very good news here though, but still at a nerve wracking stage.
Wish us luck, any advice on process welcome.
She does seem fairly sure about her decision, even though it's close and both would be great options!

LineysRun · 17/08/2017 10:54

Thank you, all of you Flowers You are keeping me calm which is great for DS. If only Kent would pick the bloody phone up

aginghippy · 17/08/2017 11:07

Good luck Juggling and JugglingDD!

I'm sure they will be fine in the end, but the uncertainly is absolutely nerve wracking.

Horsemad · 17/08/2017 11:09

Keep us posted Juggling & Liney.

LineysRun · 17/08/2017 11:13

Will do. It's all looking a lot better than at 7 o'clock this morning.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 17/08/2017 11:24

Trying to get through to someone on admissions at department in Sheffield ......Think we've finally made contact!

MirabelleTree · 17/08/2017 11:26

From experience with Kent last year they take ages to answer but were pretty good when they do, hang in there. Friend's DD missed first choice but going to Kent to do Biomedicine. If he does go there don't worry about the accommodation, that was easy to sort through clearing and they don't start allocating it until late on anyway, or they didn't last year.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 17/08/2017 11:27

Arghhh, feeling nervous as think we have succeeded in declining an offer.
But still need to accept the other one!

MirabelleTree · 17/08/2017 11:27

Fingers crossed Juggling Flowers

bigTillyMint · 17/08/2017 11:35

Roses, well done to your DD Flowers I sm hoping for a similar outcome for DS and GCSES, but just doing them was a massive achievement.

Good news AuntP, Liney and Juggling. And all others - I cant keep up!

Etaina · 17/08/2017 11:36

Dd has missed out on her offers for medicine by 3 UMS points (Chemistry). Her insurance hasn't accepted or rejected her yet but she is really despondent now. We don't know what to do if she's rejected by her insurance. She wants to retake and try again next year, but is also interested in Neuroscience which is in clearing. Unless we get news soon, all of the places at her preferred unis for Neuroscience will probably have gone. It's a horrible, horrible day for us.

LineysRun · 17/08/2017 11:37

Thanks, Mirabelle, that's really good to know.

He's currently talking to Sheffield. He's shattered but is managing to sound confident(ish).

Exeter rang him up to ask him to reconsider Zoololgy. I thought that was great of them - I want to do it myself now! I'd study urban foxes and corvids, and food waste.

You lot are fab Smile

JugglingFromHereToThere · 17/08/2017 11:37

They were very helpful and phoning back to confirm what we need to do next, which I thought is exceptionally good of them.

Allthebestnamesareused · 17/08/2017 11:43

Etaina

Has she looked at clearing?

MirabelleTree · 17/08/2017 11:44

Etaina, so sorry for the stressful wait you're going through Flowers I'm wondering if there has been a bit of an issue with Chemistry this year, some we know has missed her first choice Vetinary course because of it but has got into her second choice.

LineysRun · 17/08/2017 11:45

Etaina, I'm sorry, it's unreal, isn't it?

Have you chased up the Insurance admissions? You can't really progress without a decision.

LineysRun · 17/08/2017 11:46

Chemistry grade boundaries were very high, DS says.

Etaina · 17/08/2017 11:47

Her insurance offer is from a uni in clearing (that's the one still considering her) and the other said that they wouldn't consider her because she hasn't got 3 As. Her results are AAB with an A* EPQ and in the top 25% for UKCAT. She's in a bad way now. Very tearful. Not like her at all.

The really upsetting thing is that she much preferred her insurance choice to her firm and only decided on the firm based on rankings which is really silly.

LineysRun · 17/08/2017 11:49

Sheffield not budging on grades so that's the first NO from Clearing.

Etaina · 17/08/2017 11:49

I've also been told that Chemistry grade boundaries were very high. She thought she'd done OK. To miss out by just 3 UMS points is devastating. She'll get a priority remark but with a subject like chemistry which isn't subjective, I doubt there will be any change (she might even end up worse off).

Etaina · 17/08/2017 11:51

Called insurance and they said they hope to let her know by the end of the day. The wait is absolutely agonising. Plus she's missing out on clearing if she does decide to take the Neuroscience route.

aginghippy · 17/08/2017 11:51

That's really tough Etaina Brew

We are still waiting too. They emailed and asked her to send through a copy of last year's results. It must be a really close-run thing.

Etaina · 17/08/2017 11:52

Are you waiting for medicine too aginghippy?

MirabelleTree · 17/08/2017 11:53

I'm so sorry, how hugely stressful for you all. I'm not surprised she is tearful, it's a huge emotional stress. The good thing is that they haven't turned her down yet. Really hope you get some news very soon.

aginghippy · 17/08/2017 11:53

No it's mechanical engineering.
