She has told me she was sat at the table talking with her friends eating her lunch when she happened to let out a tiny belch. She thought nothing of it carried on talking to her friends when a teacher on a table by them then turned round and asked them which one of you burped . My daughter who is in year 7 said it was her the teacher then told her off and before she left to go outside with her friends handed her a detention for tomorrow lunchtime because she didant say excuse me . I am fuming right now and want to phone the school as this is ridiculous . Anyone got any advice ?

The school you went to probably does influence how you interpret things a bit sonly. Most teachers at my 80s state girls' school were normal, reasonable, decent people, so I expect the same at dd's high school and haven't been disappointed so far. (Y8.)

Although it's early days i guess, so they may reveal themselves to be complete lunatics in a year or two. Grin

Since the incident and the detention the teacher concerned has in the last week got to know my DD as she is now teaching her in maths as my DD was moved up a set and she is happy to be in her class funny how things turn out

It's a great life lesson! Sometimes things are unfair, sometimes people make mistakes but it doesn't have to be irrecoverable.

You should count yourself lucky she wasn't arrested.

Happened in the US.

www.washingtonpost.com/news/answer-sheet/wp/2017/02/01/judge-gorsuchs-dissent-in-case-of-13-year-old-arrested-for-making-fake-burps-in-physical-education-class/

A majority found that the arrest was fair and reasonable. Sole dissent was from Trump's new SCJ pick.

Good on them. They should have taken her phone off her too.

Teacher sounds a bit petty.

However I'd just laugh with your DD about it and nickname the teacher MrsWind or something.
