Following on from the preparing for AS levels thread.

Hopefully everyone is finishing off AS exams.

When this script wins a BAFA/Oscar/Golden Globe, I will take to the stage and hold my trophy aloft and say 'with no thanks at all to my family'.

nuttymango · 09/06/2016 16:36

DS's college recommend that they don't but they will let them. DS is adamant that he hates biology and won't be studying it even if he gets an A.
I hope we don't end up in the situation of having a U in one of his other subjects.

LineyReborn · 09/06/2016 17:08

So does anyone know the rules about retaking any of this year's linear papers?

ono40 · 09/06/2016 20:32

GetAHaircutCarl I have been known to take myself off to a local café on the pretext of "having a meeting". Yes it's bad when DS is here but when DH is here as well I might as well just give up.

Liney from what I understand the AS are decoupled so no point in retaking next year unless they want a standalone additional AS. If they want to go onto A2 then the marks from AS count for nothing.

DS just took me out for dinner to say thank you for helping him hold it all together this week and he even paid with his own money! Honestly, I had tears in my eyes. Maybe there is a maturity light at the end of the tunnel? Oh...wait...I take that back, he just asked me to watch Love Island while he's out and tell him what happens.

LineyReborn · 09/06/2016 20:39

ono God of course you're right, I can't believe I asked that. I feel exhausted this week.

bigTillyMint · 09/06/2016 20:47

ono, I think DD's your/his woman (Love Island-wise!)

I went to DD's UCAS info evening and they said that the predicted grades for uni would be based on both AS results and attitude to learning in Y12Hmm!

bebumba · 10/06/2016 08:01

I can't believe how quickly we have reached this point in the year. Ds has Chemistry this afternoon which is his last exam.
I am picking him up from college along with a friend and dropping them off at Download Festival. I am then staying with friends in Yorkshire for the weekend then collecting them on Monday.
He has Tuesday to recover before returning to college on Wednesday.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 10/06/2016 08:52

Liney, I think it's a mixed picture this year regarding whether marks from AS contribute to the A2, depending on the subject. DD's geography will contribute, perhaps 40%, something like that, but Art and Biology will not. With Art I think this means some new projects for next year, whereas for Biology it's more a case of revising the whole two years when it comes to next summer's exams. Maths for her will almost certainly be an AS only, as she feels the Y12 year has been enough - and hopefully she's got her maths on a firmer footing this year, especially regarding useful stats.
It's all pretty confusing really, very much a guinea pig transition year for them.

LineyReborn · 10/06/2016 08:53

DS now has to find that tricky balance of finding time for Statistics revision and watching football.

LineyReborn · 10/06/2016 08:55

Juggling, hi, it does all feel very much like they're being experimented on.

LittleHoHum · 10/06/2016 09:40

dd is losing motivation now. I've told her to have fun for a couple of days.

Too many changes have happened recently and whoever decided that running two systems alongside each other would work needs to go back to school.

HSMMaCM · 10/06/2016 09:51

Liney can you make a big wall chart, colour coded to show football time and revision time?

OP posts:
teta · 10/06/2016 09:59

I think the schools decided themselves surely ?
Dd's school decided not to do the independent As's .I'm not sure whether it's been the right decision or not.But every school seems to have interpreted the decision differently.Likewise there has been utter confusion on how many A levels to do.My biggest worry is how do universities interpret all this data?I think it's going to be terribly difficult and the previous 'rules' can't be applied.

DD has one statistics exam next week followed by internal exams the following week.I think even she can't sustain the momentum required for such a long exam season.Dd2 had a week of exams as well and Ds2 has had a week of exams this week .I'm all exam-ed out!

Abraiid1 · 10/06/2016 12:58

The teachers at my daughter's school say that a lot of the references for this year's UCAS forms will be given over to explaining what they decided to do re examination entries for AS and why.

Trufflethewuffle · 10/06/2016 12:58

DS1 and DS2 have just set out, DS1 for a revision session and DS2 for Chemistry AS.
We are inching closer to the end, roll on next Wednesday!

HSMMaCM · 10/06/2016 14:57

DD went into school this afternoon, even though she is on study leave until Monday, because she had her braces taken off today after 2 long years. She has a grin from ear to ear and wanted to show all her teachers and friends. Grin

bigTillyMint · 10/06/2016 16:19

Awww HSMSmile

GetAHaircutCarl · 10/06/2016 16:45

How lovely HSM Grin.

When I had my braces off it took my a couple of days to get used to the feel of it. My teeth felt oddly slimey!

DD is getting ready to go out to dinner with her latest squeeze. Lord help these boys. She barely bothers to meet or stay in contact with them. Her view is that she is completely upfront about not wanting a boyfriend so all's fair...

DS rolls his eyes and says more fool them for trying.

Auntpetunia2015 · 10/06/2016 20:44

Well after the exams DS has taken my Comments about his size to hand and has lost nearly a stone in 2 weeks by cutting out the crap and walking everywhere. He admits he looks and feels better.

And he came home tonight to say he's been nominated by the teachers for Head Boy for next year so the students get to vote and he'll find out on Tuesday...he's very proud as am I, not bothered if he doesn't actually win

bigTillyMint · 10/06/2016 20:59

Too right, Carl!

AuntP, a stone in 2 weeksShock - you are the weight-loss championsEnvy!
And well done to him on the nomination - fantastic!

GetAHaircutCarl · 10/06/2016 21:13

Well I gave the latest squeeze a lift home after their dinner date.

Very nice indeed. Handsome, 6 foot 4, beautiful manners. Poor lad...

Auntpetunia2015 · 10/06/2016 22:19

Ha Btm I know ! I couldn't believe it when I made him get on the scales today. All he's done is cut out the crap and up the exercise which is what I did. Lots of water and fruit

Head boy can't believe it ...if any one had told me when he was in primary when they thought he was useless and wanted him sent to a specialist unit !

SugarPlumTree · 11/06/2016 07:24

AuntPetunia that is so lovely ! DD also has dyspraxia and the early years can be such a struggle. I know they all have their moments but all the DC on this thread sound lovely and I think we're all doing a pretty good job of helping the next generation find their way into adulthood at a difficult time with a ridiculous Department of Education who change things at the drop of a hat without seeing the consequences of their previous changes.

HSM, how lovely the braces are off. I remember DD with a huge smile when she became brace free, made all the orthodontist trips Beth worthwhile.

Getahaircut, fair play to your DD for knowing her own mind. 6 ft 4 sounds very tall, DS is predicted to end up around there. It feels a bit weird after 17 years of parenthood to finally have a child of mine look down on me !

bigTillyMint · 11/06/2016 09:38

AuntP, I hope you get a chance to let his old teachers knowWink

Auntpetunia2015 · 11/06/2016 11:54

Oh btm you know me so well!!' He's already said he's going to make sure he does the "hey come to our school" visit at the primary in September! You know the "few years ago I was sat there and look at me know type thing" ...
