Didn't see you there Errol, sorry. Her tutor will be studying herself so is short of time. That's good DD looking forward to going back Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 31/08/2016 12:55

S'ok mirabelle - you're making some of us count our blessings! Smile

MirabelleTree · 31/08/2016 13:00

Glad to be of help Grin

ono40 · 05/09/2016 18:44

Hi everyone - are we all ready for the madness that will be Y13? DS goes back tomorrow for registration and then on Wednesday it will be full on - not looking forward to the next 8 months of constant nagging!

dingit · 05/09/2016 18:51

Dd has to have the first draft of her personal statement for Wednesday. Of course, despite having had the whole summer, she is upstairs writing it and in a foul mood. Grin

bigTillyMint · 05/09/2016 18:57

Dingit, I think DD has done some of hers, not sure if it's a whole draft! She goes back Wed too and still hasn't decided on which subject to drop - History teachers haven't come up with a predicted grade yet, so hopefully they will before Wed!

LittleHoHum · 05/09/2016 18:59

Let the madness begin. Starting with three Open Days this month. Luckily I'm only going to one.

I'm not allowed to see the personal statement. It is work in progress. At least I finally know which subject she is applying for now.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/09/2016 19:16

DD was back last week. She came home delighted that on alternate fridays she finishes the week with maths, maths and more maths.GrinShe's dropped computer science so more frees and they're allowed to come home anytime after lunch if they've no lessons.

She mailed in her PS during the hols and is already working on the second draft. Her school has a lot of 'early applicants' so they encourage getting it out of the way asap.

Ds returns to college tomorrow. The AS exams went well (phew!) and he has already enrolled on the courses that he is going to continue.
Personal starement is half done but he is not sure what else to include. He is going to go through it with his tutor this week.
We crammed in some open days before the summer hols and he is going. to look at Birmingham at some point.
Good luck to all of your dcs and I hope they settle quickly in to yr13!

HoppityFrogs · 05/09/2016 20:18

DS is back tomorrow as well. He's delighted to have dropped a subject that he hated (biology). He's been talking to peers and there were a lot of B/C/D grades at AS level from people he expected to get higher grades :(

We've got three open days this month but DS has decided now to only go to two, both local.

ono40 · 05/09/2016 20:40

Bebumba - Birmingham open day is this Saturday as is Nottingham.

DS was quite surprised to find that one friend is off to an independent college/crammer to redo Y12 and do Y13 at the same time (sounds like massive stress) and another two are off to do BTECs as they weren't allowed to return to sixth form.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/09/2016 21:13

Surrey open day is this weekend too, DD is going to it. She was going to look at Nottingham on fri as well but decided not to after all - think it was the thought of missing the maths, maths and more maths that swung it.(we did b'ham last year, trip down memory lane for DH and me)

LittleHoHum · 05/09/2016 21:16

My dd is going to the Surrey Open Day as well. Wonder if they are looking at the same course?

ErrolTheDragon · 05/09/2016 21:51

little - I'm afraid I've forgotten what yours is into, mine is electrical&electronic engineering.

LittleHoHum · 05/09/2016 21:55

Physics.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/09/2016 22:49

Ooh ... We looked at the physics when we visited b'ham, made me wish I was that age again and could sign up! EnvyGrin

teta · 06/09/2016 06:59

Gawd,is Nottingham this weekend?Dd hasn't reminded me and dh is away!
Unless I go with all four kids.

Dd has done the first draft I think.Did it over our week in Cornwall in a gorgeous place on a beach. But it was with my foul sister in law who was set on world domination ( or failing that my kids will do).I need a holiday now to recover from the bad atmosphere and nastiness.

bigTillyMint · 06/09/2016 07:09

DD hasn't booked any more open days AFAIK, but is planning to go and stay with bf and a friend who are off to uni's that she will probably apply to. I doubt she will be going to look at the course, more to sample the social lifeWinkGrin

MirabelleTree · 06/09/2016 07:32

Could I ask what the average amount of lessons per subject is a week/fortnight and Hogmanay hours out of school is needed? Thank you.

MirabelleTree · 06/09/2016 07:32

Hogmanay ? That was 'how many'!

ErrolTheDragon · 06/09/2016 08:19

I think my DD has 9 hours per fortnight per subject.

HSMMaCM · 06/09/2016 08:44

DD went for her back to college interview yesterday. By the time she came back, she had dropped classics (because she doesn't want to study the Iliad apparently).

She mentioned the idea of going to a brick uni, where she had only considered OU psychology or dance college before. I can see this being a turbulent year!

She is out of a job at the moment and we suggested that for year 13, she doesn't need to worry about a job and we will increase her pocket money. It is entirely up to her whether she wants to get another job or not. Apparently this is us being controlling??? Gotta love teenagers Grin.

We have bus issues too this year Horsemad. Last year ds caught a bus at 730 and arrived at college at 820, he then went to the restaurant and had breakfast before college at 900.
The council/bus company in their infinite wisdom have changed the timetable and extended the route over the summer. He now has to get a bus at 700 as the next bus is unlikely to get him in to town on time.
We paid £560 to renew the bus pass before the timetable was revealed so too late to work out a plan B.
