Exam season starts....

Littleham I'm surprised the school haven't been on to them. Excellent time to contact your local MP I think, maybe with a threat suggestion that you might contact local papers too? (Bonus if you can do a [sadface] pic with students next to the road closed sign).

Dd is also starting to feel nostalgic about her last day at school. Looking back it's probably going to more emotional for us all than their first day at school. And it doesn't really seem that long ago that we were buying their first ever school uniform does it?

What am I going to be like when she leaves for uni? Grin

twentyten · 02/05/2015 17:30

Littleham dd found night nurse tablets good- some for day( with caffeine inSmile and ones to aid sleep.... Also I gave her mega vitamin c dose- the fizzy tablets. Plus olbas oil on tissues etc..... And vitamins to make sure she's not run down. Chocolate helpsSmile.
Plus large glass ofWine for you- all sounds v stressful.

hellsbells99 · 02/05/2015 17:48

Littleham - DD2 here is also complaining of a sore throat. I have made her gargle with soluble paracetamol and sent her off to her tennis lesson in the rain. Both girls are now taking multivitamins. DD1 is having manuka honey and lemon in hot water everyday - DD2 won't drink hot drinks though.
We don't need ill DCs for the exams! Hope your DD is feeling better soon.

Littleham · 02/05/2015 18:12

Thanks. Good tips, will try them. I'm trying Sambucol on her (Black elderberry Immuno Forte with zinc & vitamin C) as well.

I think their immune systems are taking a hammering.

circular · 02/05/2015 18:51

Also have DD on the multivitamins her., though she says they're doing nothing and keeps forgetting to take them.
Ended up staying over at party, drunk more than she ever has before and went to music school with a massive hangover.

Littleham · 02/05/2015 20:05

The Manuka honey has been rejected. Apparently it is 'bee sick'. Hmm

Have a WineWine. It's wine o'clock Smile

welshpixie · 04/05/2015 07:01

Well 1 hour to the first exam. At least it is English and DD loves English.

circular · 04/05/2015 08:08

Good luck to your DD Welshpixie.
No Bank Holiday in Wales then?

AtiaoftheJulii · 04/05/2015 09:23

Dd1 has done no work over the weekend (that I've noticed!), but cooked us all chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast yesterday, and baked two ginormous trays of brownies last night, ready to take in for all her last lessons this week. Procrastination at its tastiest Grin

Pressed post too soon - good luck to your dd, welshpixie. Is that an AS resit?

Littleham · 04/05/2015 11:52

Good luck to your dd Welshpixie and for your dd Mumslife.

We have the May Day Fayre in village today as a distraction. DD's friend is over today to revise and visit the ice cream van at the Fayre. Feeling nostalgic for the days when they used to dance round the maypole in white dresses.

Hope it went ok this morning Welshpixie

DS is spending today "getting organised" I have no idea what this is supposed to entail but it seems to involve lying on his bed looking at a laptop screen.

HasSOsm97 · 04/05/2015 17:48

Hi everyone sorry haven't been on here for a while, hope everyone is ok, I need some HELP! Dd has not confirm or assured uni yet! The latest date she must do this is tomorrow! Dd has made up her mind about assured which is york course is English and philosophy, however as her firm dd is undecided, it's between durham and bristol both in single honours philosophy, she likes durham because of the college system and it would be easier to get involved with activities which will be good because she wants to become a journalist, it will be easier to make more friends due to the college but when she visited durham she found the tutors were not enthusiastic about the philosophy course so this has effected her choice, with bristol she liked the course and felt the tutors were more interesting and about the philosophy course however she does not like the accommodation and feels like it's more a place to just stay instead of a place to get involved in as the college system at durham, both uni are head to head in philosophy as well! so as you can see I don't really know what to do or what to say in order to help her make up her mind, any advice would be helpful, thank you

Littleham · 04/05/2015 18:01

Get her to toss a coin. Heads Durham. Tails Bristol. If she is gutted by the result then you will have your answer.

Can't go wrong - both great choices. Durham is a bit more ruthless on near misses! Hundreds of opportunities to socialise at Bristol btw and a massive range of accommodation.

OP posts:
Leeds2 · 04/05/2015 18:02

What are her offers for York, Durham and Bristol?

NiceCardigan · 04/05/2015 18:10

Well coming from a biased perspective of being a Durham graduate I found the college system meant it was really easy to get involved in things. I did loads that I probably wouldn't have done if it had been university wide. Even DH the world's greatest non joiner in did stuff at Durham!

You could try tossing a coin and saying "that's your choice" and then if she won't go with it she does have a preference. Or try The Student Room for current philosophy students for their views on the courses.

HasSOsm97 · 04/05/2015 19:03

Thanks Littleham, great advice about the coin! I am going to suggest it and wait for the reaction only then I will know hopefully which one she has sided with more, I agree with you bristol is a lovely city and offers so many accommodation but I think dd feels there's not a lot of activities organised within the accommodation, also her food will be prepared at durham! So she doesn't have to cook dd has said! I let you know how the coin situation goes, thanks again

HasSOsm97 · 04/05/2015 19:05

Leeds2, dd is doing IB, york wants 35, bristol 36 and durham 37, she is predicted to get 42 hopefully!

HasSOsm97 · 04/05/2015 19:12

NiceCardigan, the college system does get you involved more that what dd likes about it, I think tossing a coin and seeing what happens because she has had 3 months to decide but still can't! I think she said both are the same in student room reviews, I let you know about the coin thing! I am just praying she makes a decision! Cause while this is all going on dd has started her finial exams today! Which will last for two weeks! Added stress!

Littleham · 04/05/2015 19:15

From what you have said HaSMM she will probably pick Durham & it sounds like it would suit her.

However if she does go for Bristol there are quite a few halls of residence that are fully catered and a few that do events / Balls and so on (Wills, Badock, Churchill, Goldney Halls for a start). Even my dd's hall which is self catered had a Ball held at in the university buildings (Wills Memorial Building).

welshpixie · 05/05/2015 05:58

I don't live in Wales, but am from there. The exam went well apparently so fingers crossed for the rest, thank you for the lovely messages.

welshpixie · 05/05/2015 05:59

Atia not a resit my DD is doing the IB

AtiaoftheJulii · 05/05/2015 07:38

Oh right, it all makes sense then :)

How many exams does she have - it's 6 subjects, isn't it?
