Exam season starts....

Thanks for the support all. Think the insurance decision is a bit closer. Actually diacussed it civilly for the first time in ages. She's since been researching some of the finer course detail. Hopefully will decide by end of week.
Seemed a bit happier today, not mentioned boyfriend and I haven't either.

circular · 28/04/2015 21:54

Littleham that's awful.
Is the road used by many school commuters? If school are aware, are they able to start exams later? - thought boards set as am or pm, but school have some leeway?

Anyone you can complain to for a chance of delaying the work? Write to MP?

Half the time, roads close and nothing starts for several days/weeks. The amount of times we drive past 'roadworks' in the middle of the day, and not a worker in sight grrrrr.

AtiaoftheJulii · 28/04/2015 22:08

Oh no Littleham! We have two bridges over the river in our town - one is being shut for a fortnight, the week before half term and half term. Won't directly affect my kids, but will have a knock-on effect on dd2's bus journey I expect during her busiest AS week, and will have a direct effect on SOOOOO many kids. Crazy. All they have to do is wait a month?

Horsemad · 28/04/2015 22:21

Can't believe they thought that was a good time to resurface the road Littleham. Try ringing the Highways Dept?

Where I live, the DC's school is on a flight path to one of the front line RAF Stations (we are virtually next door to it!) and they actually try not to fly over their school during exam season!

Littleham · 28/04/2015 22:56

I'll ring but the letter looks like it is set in stone (excuse the semi hysterical pun). The road is used by the school bus that goes round all the small villages and hamlets. We don't use the bus any more because I go into school town anyway in the morning so it is easier (& a lot cheaper) for kids to come with me.

The school bus is often late anyway, so all those kids will turn up very late for exams. It won't even fit up teeny grassy lane short cut so will have to go many miles in a giant circle.

Flight paths, bridges, rivers, road closures - no wonder we are all stressed!

Tutor here at the moment; can anyone explain why the darned cat insists on attaching herself, limpet like to DS1 whilst he's trying to work with the tutor???!!! Grin

She is a pest!

MrsBartlet · 29/04/2015 20:27

Littleham - that is ridiculous. As if this is not all stressful enough already!

hellsbells99 · 30/04/2015 07:37

Horsemad - our cats just lie all over their books so they can't work!
Serious revision is now happening.....both DD's revised almost solidly over the weekend and the last couple of evenings. DD1 says she doesn't have to be in school during her frees so revised at home yesterday afternoon, and only has to attend the lessons she wants to as all work has finished.

circular · 30/04/2015 08:21

Borg our cats love to sprawl on books, papers etc. Anything new that appears, as if it was out there just for them. The more indiirsu one is very attached to DH, but also likes to attach herself to any other makes that cone into the house. When DD had a (male) tutor, had to shut cat out - didn't help that tutor was allergic lol.

circular · 30/04/2015 08:25

Both not Borg
Males not Makes

Littleham · 30/04/2015 18:00

At least your cats are friendly. I used to have a rescued cat who attacked any male that entered the house. She was ferocious & drew blood from ankles! We reckoned she must have been kicked by previous owner before being abandoned. She was lovely to all females though.

No resolution to road closure issue yet. All I discovered today is that they are shutting the whole road through the village & will provide an access way out from my little dead end spur (but in wrong direction I think).

Today I got stuck behind a tractor for 15 minutes, so the teeny road is going to be fun. What if the local farmers move cows at just the wrong time?

The road situation sounds stressful Littleham we are lucky that DS walks to school so no problems there. Still messing with last bits of coursework much to my frustration but plenty of timed essays for history and English and past papers for maths being done. Another 18th at the weekend but at least there is an extra day off.

Good Luck post card from University of Southampton arrived this morning Hmm Have they been reading my rants on this thread?! Grin

Littleham · 01/05/2015 17:39

Good luck postcards are a nice touch but they should post out Diazepam.

hellsbells99 · 01/05/2015 18:23

A night off from revision here. House is full of 17 year olds (DD2's friends) letting off steam and eating pizza/drinking coke. DD1 has gone into town with her friends for something to eat - but no alcohol being consumed so clear heads for revision tomorrow! All 18th parties currently on hold (I hope).

Horsemad · 01/05/2015 19:11

Grin Littleham, I totally agree!!

circular · 01/05/2015 19:24

Good luck postcard here too, though still not completed UCAS grrr.
DD off out for an 18th which I'm guessing includes drinking as not taken car.
Think there's another in the middle of exams and one after.

AtiaoftheJulii · 01/05/2015 20:08

Dd1 getting sentimental about her last day of school next Friday. One of her best friends turns 18 next Wednesday - apparently this necessitates a night out on Wednesday and on Friday! Plus a late night for election results on Thursday ....

Littleham · 01/05/2015 20:18

Oh dear Atia. Hope she is an owl.

My call to the road works people seems to have made no difference whatsoever. They have just put up a thumping great electronic sign saying This road will be closed between xx May and xx May. Helloooo.... exams road work people. Angry

OP posts:
AtiaoftheJulii · 01/05/2015 21:33

She's most definitely an owl Hmm Friday is celebration day at school so no work done then anyway. She will have to work this weekend to get a good start Grin She has three weeks between school finishing and exams starting, so I think she feels that she has plenty of time! (We are ignoring the Latin AS exams before half term because they're not part of her offer.)

NiceCardigan · 01/05/2015 21:41

DS has finally finished a piece of coursework! English is done and dusted. He really has been making a meal of it all Hmm

AtiaoftheJulii · 02/05/2015 11:46

Hooray, at last!

Dd1 has made a good start to the bank holiday weekend by being up before 11 ... but has gone out to sort out her costume for their celebration day on Friday (there is a theme each year).

Littleham · 02/05/2015 12:42

I bet that is a big relief NiceCardigan. Smile

DD2 has a fever, a sore throat and is sneezing. Any remedies / tips appreciated. The timing could be better.
