Exam season starts....

Yes, 6 subjects which must include a science, maths language and social science, also native or fist language is compulsory. For example my DD is doing English A Literature, Maths, French B (non native) German B (non native), History and Chemistry. Because of the particular mix she will have 14 exams in 3 weeks some will have a couple more and some will have less. It is a tough course that is taught over 2 years and examined at the end. The big advantage is their results are out early July so if they need to contact Unis they have a bit more time and there shouldn't be as many students as when the A'levels come out.

NiceCardigan · 05/05/2015 20:26

Much excitement here as DS's script made the long list for the National Theatre competition. Well I'm excited DS is chilled as ever.

Littleham · 05/05/2015 20:42

Woo hoo!! Go your ds NiceCardigan. Smile

Wow - that is brilliant NiceCardigan! Well done to your ds.

AtiaoftheJulii · 05/05/2015 21:01

Wow, fantastic NiceCardi ! Tell your ds that all his adopted aunties are very impressed Grin

welshpixie That sounds demanding, hope all goes well x

NiceCardigan · 05/05/2015 21:07

Thank you everyone Grin

Fairenuff · 05/05/2015 21:27

Ah what a star he is NiceCardigan, talented young man Smile

Dd has had the results of her English coursework and she got A* which she tells me means that she only has to get a C in her exam to get an overall A. Takes the pressure off somewhat.

hellsbells99 · 05/05/2015 23:24

Well done Nicecardi's DS and Fairnuff's DD Grin

ExcuseTheTypos · 06/05/2015 00:01

WelshPixie DD1 did the IB and the fact they got their results so early was brilliant. It meant DD1 had a well deserved long relaxing summer. It was even good for some of her friends who missed their offers as they had plenty of time to research other options before the Unis made their final decisions on A'level results day.

Horsemad · 06/05/2015 00:10

Great news NiceCardigan & Fairenuff Smile

AtiaoftheJulii · 06/05/2015 08:20

Excellent to hear Fairenuff, well done to her!

Littleham · 06/05/2015 13:47

Fabulous Fairenuff. Smile Nice to have a bit of leeway.

DD is at the hacking cough stage now. She did a mock today and said everyone was glaring and shushing her in the exam. Poorly and croaking.

Thanks everyone. Your poor dd Littleham, it's not fair if they are unwell. What they really need is chicken soup and bed. Hope she feels better soon x

HasSOsm97 · 06/05/2015 21:55

I hope you DD2 is feeling better littleham, my dd has finally frim her uni! In the end it was Durham as frim and york as insured, it's a big relief! Taking IB exams so still a very stressful household at the moment! I think even the dog wants to leave! Good luck to your Dd welshpixie in her IB exams :)

HasSOsm97 · 06/05/2015 22:03

Hope your dd is feeling better mumslife and good luck for her history resit next week, my dd is excited to vote as well! Doesn't know who but she is excited!

Littleham · 06/05/2015 22:37

I'm glad she came to a decision HasOsm97. Big relief for you.

My dd can't vote this time as she is one of the youngest in the year. She would like to though.

Sympathies to those with ill dc - it is a struggle. Dd has been struggling to stay in school due to illness (mainly mental health issues) but I can see that last week and this week she is really trying very hard to stay in school as she loves it and doesn't want to miss any of her last few weeks.

Dd turned 18 yesterday and is very excited to go and vote today Grin

Hope all the ones with ill dd get better, my dd is so tried after eight exams in three days I think dd needs a rest mentally and physically! Next exams start up on Tuesday! Good luck with everyone's dd and Ds that have exams coming up soon,
I was going to ask dd will have all her meals included at durham even weekends, how much do you think they need to live on weekly if meals are included? We have made a budgeted of £65 a week, does anyone think this is low or ok? Any advice would be lovely, thanks

Littleham · 07/05/2015 17:42

My dd1 has £100 a week and self caters (so has to buy food out of this). She usually has money left after each week. The amount they have varies massively from family to family, but your dd should be ok with the amount you are proposing.

There are quite a few old threads about spending money at university if you do a search. Here is one -

It depends on what you are expecting her to pay for HasSOsm97 DS has Durham as first choice as well so he will only have to buy toiletries and pay for entertainment. We haven't worked out what to give him yet but I think it will be closer to £30 - 35. We don't expect him to buy clothes or pay for travel at the end of term out of that though.
